Why other faiths, Abrahamics tend to be ultra critical to their own subdivisions and cast a glaring eye at any deviation from the abhorrent diktat they serve. There was an alternative to civil war and partition and that was the Cripps proposal. Sri Aurobindo was highly in favour of accepting the offer as he felt it would be benefit India in the long run. In fact, Sri Aurobindo, sent a personal attendant to Gandhi and the Congress leaders requesting them to accept the Cripps offer. In fact, Gandhi, arrogantly asked the attendant, if Sri Aurobindo had any standus loci as he had withdrawn from active politics a long time ago. When he returned to India he realised that it would be futile to ask the Indians to take up arms and fight for independence and that Bose was doomed to fail. He understood the Indian mind and decided non violence and non cooperation was a better option. This even prompted Churchill to say, “How do u fight a people that never fight back”. I don't think Gandhi changed his mind as a leader.l his mindset was set. I'm sure this is what he thought: Well, I have fought under the British Crown, and they have fought valiant wars. It is valiant to fight under the Crown, and whenever the Crown needs people should join them. However, they should not subjugate the Indian people, as they have their own culture. Indians should not fight violently with the British as they have their cultute of 'non-violence'. Almost like a parent telling the older child 'you're more mature than than the younger one, you're older so you know better'. So under the British Crown you can fight violently because that's how they do it, and Indians must always remain in peace, calm, and fight non-violently. So his allegiance is to both: British and India, in a way. He considered both of them to be his brother and sister.

Please do not restrict one or two text books available in India (where hindutuva is glorified), rather read more books and peer reviewed journals. Partition allowed unified territories for both West Pakistan and India and then both could focus on the Princely states unification (which was done within 1-2 years) and then proceed on.

When he returned to India he realised that it would be futile to ask the Indians to take up arms and fight for independence and that Bose was doomed to fail. He understood the Indian mind and decided non violence and non cooperation was a better option. This even prompted Churchill to say, “How do u fight a people that never fight back”. What is totally illogical is comparing Lincoln with Gandhi! Lincoln had an army under his command, Gandhi didn't; even if Congress had chosen civil war Hindus would have come out worse, as Britishers weren't interested in participation and most of Indian army were Muslims! India would have Balkanized and millions MORE killed.
Partition was a logical choice IMO.
@ä Hindu community wasn't weak; actually it would have come out ahead in most of India. However the process would have been chaotic costing millions of lives and the outcome unpredictable. Partition allowed unified territories for both West Pakistan and India and then both could focus on the Princely states unification (which was done within 1-2 years) and then proceed on.
