    Thanks for the review and comparisons, really helpful as I have been sitting on the fence about which way to go for my next camera. The hard part about all of this is that the Burano pics look amazing straight out of the camera, and that was what Arri always had above Sony and Red; I need my client to go - yeah, that looks really nice, even in the offline edit. But... the features of the Raptor X and that little monitor on the side are gonna make it a nicer, more user friendly beast to use.

    This is my favorite review channel. I anxiously await every new video!! Can you PLEASE do a video about how you tweak the colors of Red Footage? In one of your past videos you showed a quick before and after stating the red image is really good with some little tweaks. Your Red footage looks so much better than directly out of camera and would love to know what you do.

    RED. 1:20 in... the color aberration on the fence? Is that camera or lens. The Burano pre amps are nice. I'm not a sound guy but I heard a difference. RED AF is still not there. But the image is sweet. The talking head, Canon?

    • @NorthwestCameraCo
      @NorthwestCameraCo  3 місяці тому

      Yea talking head is canon c500 with a panchro. And yea 1:20 is atlas anamorphic wide open in maybe the worst case scenario for that lens. It’s what gives it nightmares at night. For simple stuff we’ve had great results with Raptor AF but by far no comparison with Sony.

    What the heck is up with the latitude tests? Why would you ever shoot at iso6400 overexposed several stops and bring it back down several stops in post given that red's ISO is just metadata? Why compare highlights to burano without looking at shadows at all? Latitude is meaningless without looking at shadows in a camera that has ND available with the push of a button. Seems a bit misleading to only compare burano's high sensitivity highlight range given the whole point of high sensitivity mode is to lower noise not preserve highlights.

    • @NorthwestCameraCo
      @NorthwestCameraCo  3 місяці тому

      Will post our shadow tests in a separate video. As that we are doing with mini lf also. In terms of 6400 basically just showing that over exposure latitude range shifts when shooting higher values. It’s purely metadata but when shooting at say 2500 on set, it’s great for monitoring to see where your range is. That’s just me though. I tend to shoot my day exteriors at 2k iso and any low light interiors at 400 to prioritize shadows.

    a few corrections from my experience. the RED has a lower dynamic range, and when you use the extended highlights to get the highlight detail the Burano is capable of, you burn through mags twice as fast on the Komodo. also when you shoot with this extended setting you get artifacts, chromatic aberrations and strange motion blur you have to be watchful for which would not be acceptable on the high end shoots you're referring to. watch CVPs review and you'll see there are sacrifices you make with the extended highlites feature. not to mention the frame rates, codecs and shutter angles that are no longer available. also the Burano does in fact have the monitor and control app you can use wirelessly. it allows control of the camera, run/stop, exposure controls, waveform, autofocus and monitoring the image etc. the IBIS is a game changer on the Burano and auto focus is quite solid compared to RED.

    • @NorthwestCameraCo
      @NorthwestCameraCo  3 місяці тому +4

      I would say that red raptor has a similar amount of useable DR without EH as burano (if shooting Xocn). Definitely using EH comes with it's sacrifices. That being said, even when using EH, you still get 2x the amount of available frame rates compared to burano and only under very fast movement do the motion artifacts become noticeable. Theres a good walking handheld shot in here, that is really tough to spot any artifacting, though when Galen waves his hand in the studio test, its very apparent. The nice thing here is that EH is something you can toggle on and off as needed which is really fantastic. Also with Ibis, that part is really nice, though any lens with internal IS will offer loads more image stabilization than the ibis. that was our experience when testing the burano. The RED control app is just VASTLY superior to Sony's wifi control. Hoping that improves with firmware.

      Scientifically Burano has a maximum of 12stops dynamic (12bit) range and you claim it is better than V-Raptor? Also Since Venice 2 has a better dynamic range than Burano ( again CVP says that ) there's no chance Burano has more dynamic range than the V-Raptor because CineD tests show us V-Raptor has a more Dynamic range than Venice 2.

    • @kemalettinsrt
      @kemalettinsrt 3 місяці тому

      Also, you claim with EH you get the same highlight detail of Burano..EH gives you 3-4 stops of overexposure.I don't know where you get numbers but clearly, Burano has nowhere near 8-9 stops of overexposure.Feel free to post your samples where you can retrieve 9 stops of highlight.

    • @reubendp
      @reubendp 3 місяці тому +1

      @@kemalettinsrt my point is that when shooting narrative, I dont think I can trust that EH feature as it could be something that affects a shot in a negative way. I think all these modern cameras now look good and have organic highlight roll off, it's not worth it. maybe in a corporate or interview setting or maybe for plates when there's not much movement. but on a feature or commercial with a lot of movement I think the EH is a risk. my other point was that there is indeed a way to control the Burano wirelessly as was not mentioned in the review. it may not be as flushed out as REDs but its there and quite usable. also from what ive seen, the EH also eats up some shadow detail and color fidelity in the shadows and caps your ISO as well. plus I dont see the same overall color depth in the Raptor as im seeing in your own Burano review. there's more to dynamic range than just exposure.

      We absolutely agree with you. We always like taking stuff out in the worst scenarios when possible. No crew, no lighting, no time. It's hard to get anything worth writing home about in those kinds of circumstances. That though is to illustrate what we've been saying for years now, You're no longer paying for image, You're paying for capability. In scenarios like this, it would be hard to pick the difference between Mini LF and a BM 6k FF. Obviously when you have time, a crew, lighting, a story, production design etc, you can make an Iphone look as good as a venice 2. What we are paying for these days though is in camera tools to helps with lots of other departments. We appreciate your opinion cuz it very accurately portrays what we usually talk about on our channel. Sadly though we do this for free in our spare time, so we don't have loads of resources to throw at each broll sequence we do. But thanks for watching!
