There's nothing like rail travel, and you young guys are to be commended for being interested in it. I've done this trip a few times now and it absolutely cannot be compared to a plane trip which can be stressful. Not with Amtrak, the rails have magic. Good on you guys, hope you continue to use train travel when you can.
I think both air travels & train travels are very much fun !! Both come w pros/ cons / some stress !! Flying comes with a bit more stress/ anxieties maybe .But,faster . But,train rides allow us to enjoy the views & more scenic usually ! 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🚈✈️💞
Thank you so much for showing the Cable Car Barn. I’m taking this trip but bailing in El Paso and flying to Denver to catch the Zephyr. I used to live in EP and Albuquerque so don’t need to see it again
Good video, but you made one mistake. You were NOT in the Viewliner Roomette, but in the SUPERLINER Roomette. Two ways to know this; 1) They don't use the Viewliner cars for the route from New Orleans to L.A. Just mostly on "eastern" routes like New York to Chicago, or Boston to Miami. 2) The Viewliner upper bunk doesn't fold down like yours did. It is already lying flat, but the whole bed is on "rods" that allow you to lower down or raise straight up and lock into place; thus allowing more headroom when it is locked away. Also the Viewliners I & II both have space for your overnighter bags above the door, and though they removed them in the Viewliner II; the Viewliner I still also has a toilette in the room... oh and there is also a fold-away sink in the Viewliners.
Glad you liked it! I’m not sure when I’ll have time to take another cross country Amtrak trip , but I definitely want to do it again . If you enjoyed that video I have another train adventure video in the works . It’s very different from Amtrak, but I think you’ll enjoy it.
i know the route cause i've taken train 2 from houston to lafayette but now on august 25th i'll be on train 1 and august 31st i'll be on train 2 and they both use superliner cars which is the bi level train cars with stairs if u look up viewliner cars and superliner cars be sure to look at the picture for a difference between the 2 plus the sunset limited has p42's as the engines the silver meteor is a mix of overhead pantograph electric lines suited for acs-64 engines and then at washington dc they switch the engines to p42's cause the p42's r diesel powered and acs-64's r electric powered
@@NicholasNormand One of the nice things about having a private room is you don't have to wear your mask when you have the door closed, since you can't infect anyone (other than your companion).
Be ready for the adventure. I’m on this train from New Orleans to Los Angeles today. We are already Five hours behind schedule and have not reached Del Rio Texas.
Eventually the Sunset Ltd will originate from Jacksonville Florida, as it once did. As such, it would be the only ocean to ocean train in the US. I’m hoping for this change in my lifetime.
My fingers are crossed. I would think there would be a lot of demand for rail travel along that route , especially if there’s plenty of opportunities to connect to other parts of Florida.
Maybe a very European question, but ate you allowed to bring your own bottle(s) of wine or cans of beer onto the train? Or does Amtrak have a good and affordable selection of wines/beers in the dining/café car? Another question: what is the best period to do this trip if you do not like extremely warm weather? I come from a country, the Netherlands, where the average summer temperature is 22 degree celsius or 72 degrees fahrenheit.
I believe you can bring whatever you want , unlike an airport no one checked our luggage. You would probably want to bring a cooler though. They do have some stuff on board, sleeping car passengers are allowed one free alcoholic beverage per trip. Supplies are limited though , a lot of the food items from the dining car sold out by the second day. As for the best time to go , I’d still recommend summer as you have more daylight to take in all the sights , but going in the early spring or waiting until October/November might be a little more mild.

Great video
Enjoyed the video. I want to try and do this next summer with my daughters. Looks like a neat experience.
I travel on Amtrak often, I recommend every child get the experience

Super liners are 2 story accomodations vs View liners are single leve accomodations. 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🚈💞
I love all of the music in your video.
your video is Awesome, I Love Amtrak, I'm a Model Railroader and I have both HO & N Scale Superliners keep making more Amtrak videos 👍👍👍🛤🚉

Awesome trip! Street cars at both ends!
hello very nice train journey took this train in 2002 when it went to orlando
Wished you would have shown more of the Louisiana bayous and shown more of the dining experience
Love this video awesome adventure
Ben, well done. Good show.
Very nice video 📹 👍 👌

Hey Ben On the train ride I could here the bell and the Horn in person and that’s when I was in train Ride
I miss all those sounds, you should check out the video on the cog railroad . The whistle on that steam locomotive is music to a rail fan’s ear!
Nice video. I love it

Must be nice to have a roomette. Coach is a whole different experience.
You guys *just missed* having real food back on the train. The microwave meals went away at the end of July and they have fresh-cooked food again!
That sounds like a good enough excuse to do it all over again!:)

Thank you for sharing
Do you know if this train has a signed seating in coach odd we can just sit anywhere
Thanks
I’m not sure if they are assigned or not, but coach passengers have access to the lounge car which has open seating .
12:55 is that my reflection on the right?
No
how much is beer on the train
Not sure about the booze , but there was a serious shortage of burgers. I don’t know how we survived.
What beautiful sunset ?? It was a train passing . 🙄
How was the food
I enjoyed it, even though most of it was microwaved . The cafe car food was pretty good as well, but half of the menu was sold out by the second day.
@@therailroadyardhubcaphobbi8029 When was your trip
@@Cal90208 Last month .
@@therailroadyardhubcaphobbi8029 Before June 23?
Yes
Why are you wearing a mask inside your own private compartment? Think you might infect someone else not in there ?
Its called individual responsibility here in Kenya its compulsory you wear a mask anytime you go outside
What’s wrong with him wearing a mask in there?
Joe the troll
They weren’t outside, they were in their sleeping compartment. They shouldn’t have had to wear them in there.
@@brendal6936 Mind your own beeswax.
You had to wear a mask while in your roomette? That’s really lame.
Excuse me? Their choice entirely, what's it to you?
Sunset limited is all superliner except the baggage car which is a viewliner . 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🚈💞
