Kudos for highlighting the Amtrak employee & his impeccable service. They deserve & need to be recognized for their above & beyond attitude towards their job.
I've had some truly fantastic attendants on Amtrak. When traveling at Christmas the train staff were in holiday sweaters. They had candy canes for the kids.
Has anyone else noticed these two very rarely complain, which is very nice, I mean on there Q and A you kind of get a feel for what they dont like, but you hardly ever hear them actually complain, and I think that is great. And Amtrak should really give these guys some serious discounts for the free commercials they get.
As always, enjoyed watching. After another year and a half, retirement will have arrived, hopefully my beautiful bride of 43 years and I will be able to circumnavigate our beautiful country in an Amtrak accessible room. Thank you both very much for making this dream of ours look and feel as great as we imagine that it will be. God bless you both Rob and Allie!
This is one of my favorite trains. I enjoy waking up & watching the brown landscape of the Southwest. I've been riding the Sunset Ltd. since the '50's & have seen many changes. It's not for people in a hurry-it's notoriously late leaving L.A. due to mechanical or other issues & can arrive in New Orleans 10+ hours late. The Sunset Ltd. once had service to Miami, & changed to Orlando FL. Service to FL ended after Katrina in 2005. It also had a transcontinental thru sleeper car which went on to NY (The Crescent) when passengers could remain in their car overnights in New Orleans. Many travelers don't use shower facilities for fear of falling while being jostled around. I've learned to use the downstairs showers in Superliners because they offer the most room compared to showers provided in Deluxe Bedrooms. It's good to know there are still a few sleeper car attendants who are exceptional. I've enjoyed your video.
What a nice tribute to your steward on the train. I can tell he is just a delightful person and I would travel in his section any day! Thanks for showing the line between Mexico and the USA...interesting.
I just got home from my month long excursion that included train, bus and pov. I began and ended in Norfolk, Va. and got as far away as Phoenix. I experienced roomette and coach seating, Metropolitan Lounge and wooden benches. I LOVED it all! The Amtrak employees were all fabulous and my fellow travelers were a delight to talk to. I’ve taken photos of grand vistas, mega fauna, farms and city streets-all beautiful in it’s own way. Thank you for your informative and entertaining videos, I started my adventure feeling less like a newbie. Amtrak is an excellent means of traveling for adventure, sightseeing and reconnecting with friends and family.

I love the Sunset Limited. I remember when it used to run daily. Now it only runs three times a week which at times can be inconvenient. The Sunset Limited ran daily up until 1970 and used to stop in Phoenix. For some reason it was rerouted and it no longer stops in Phoenix.
@@GroundedLifeTravel I remember in 1970 there was a lot of controversy about the Sunset Limited being reduced from a daily train to a three times a week train. A three times a week train was unheard of back then. By 1970 the airlines had stolen all the train passengers. In 1969 Southern Pacific had eliminated the sleepers and the dining car from the then very famous Sunset Limited to save money due to declining patronage. There were so many complaints from passengers that the government ordered Southern Pacific to return the sleepers and the dining car to the Sunset Limited. Southern Pacific responded by saying they would return the sleepers and the dining car to the Sunset Limited if they could reduce service from daily to three times a week. The government accepted the proposal. That was in 1970 and Amtrak has been trying for years to return the service back to daily but there are simply too many obstacles.

Great video!! Living up here in Vancouver BC Canada I miss riding Amtrak. Unfortunately due to the high Exchange Rates & Service Fees imposed by the Credit Card Companies it makes Train Travel in the US very expensive. I remember when I did my last Amtrak big trip aprox 15 or so years ago the North American Railpass would give you a discount by upgrading to a sleeper. Unfortunately Amtrak no longer offers that deal which again makes it very expensive. Both Amtrak & VIA Rail need to make Rail Travel more attracting. As I mentioned in your last video I just joined your channel last week. I'm really enjoying all your Amtrak Travel Video....Keep up the great work look forward to even more!
A little bummed, you didn't show the Huey Long bridge across the Mississippi, downtown area entering NOL, some of Alpine and Sanderson. The mountains around Alpine are pretty if you catch them with some light. The UP track, old SP, uses clam shells as ballast to keep the tires and rails in place. It looks like white powder from your window on the train. Some notable highlights of what to look for approaching NOL. Maybe next time?
Unfortunately it was dark when we got there, so we couldn't film it. I think the ride is better going the other way, we saw the sights at better times going east to west.
Hi! I've been looking for a particular video and would suggest it to you for first time train travelers. A walkthrough of Chicago Union station so we know where to go and what to expect. I know it won't happen before we go, but it might help other first timers.

As a still photographer who does not do video (but who greatly admires and respects content creators), I was wondering what kind of gear you use? Also, I was wondering if you have a refresh schedule for your equipment? Thank you and I really enjoy watching your AMTRAK stories.

We try to get a new camera every 2 years or so if the ones we are using can last that long, but we use them pretty hard. We are trying to hold out until the Go Pro 11 is announced!
When is your next trip, and I also wanted to say that when I was a little girl I use to travel through Amtrak with my dad and I really loved it. Our trip was from Providence RI to NY City.
Great video. You are giving me a lot of inspiration. As I have only taken trains along the Northeast corridor (Carolina and Silver Star). I wonder if that train is profitable. There were a lot of empty seats in the coach class.
After the Sunset Chief incident in Missouri recently, and the incident in northern California, I'm a bit reluctant to do any train traveling any time soon.
Thanks for the video. I know some people love it, but the Sunset Limited is probably my least favorite. Do the armed guards still board the train to search it at El Paso? That was an interesting experience! I always joke that the Sunset is a 3 day journey and 2 1/2 of those are spent in Texas! It's the state that never ends.
Hello guys. No worries about not saying good night. Question, have yall ever been in a bedroom on Amtrak? I have yet to come across a video with you two in a bedroom.

Hello both of you from Fort Wayne, IN. have you heard of the train strikes in the UK, I hope they get the pay raise their asking for.
Hello, we hadn't heard about it yet
Good evening! I discovered your channel recently and just subscribed. I love train travel and have really enjoyed seeing your adventures
Welcome aboard! Thanks!
Your videos make me happy 😊 nice channel by the way I just subscribed I really enjoy these videos thank you!
Thanks so much!
@@GroundedLifeTravel your welcome 🤗
Many thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Nice video. I would love to take the train somewhere. Welcome to Houston, that’s my city.
Cool, thanks!
@@GroundedLifeTravel You are welcome
Hi! I've been looking for a particular video and would suggest it to you for first time train travelers. A walkthrough of Chicago Union station so we know where to go and what to expect. I know it won't happen before we go, but it might help other first timers.
Great suggestion! Thanks! If you are in a sleeper, just go to the Metropolitan Lounge and they'll walk you to the train from there.
@@GroundedLifeTravel we did, but first we tried to walk across to the lounge from the outside, got directions from a very nice gentleman, but If there was a wrong way to go, we took it today. 😂
Hello 👋🏽 I’m new to ur channel, I don’t even know ur name but I know ur hubby is Rob and I love you guys. I’m getting ready to take a short trip to CT. I haven’t taken Amtrak in many years and stumbled across ur channel. I don’t need a sleeper car but just curious. I’m thinking of a longer trip for next year and wondered if you can also sit in coach if u have a sleeper. I know the observation lounge is open to everyone.
Very nice video
Thank you
Are y’all ok? 🙏 prayers for everyone!
Yes, thank you!
I am always amazed at the QUALITY of your videos. Not just the content, but the sharpness and the overall vividness of what you both shoot. As a still photographer who does not do video (but who greatly admires and respects content creators), I was wondering what kind of gear you use? Also, I was wondering if you have a refresh schedule for your equipment? Thank you and I really enjoy watching your AMTRAK stories.
Thanks so much! We appreciate it! We both use Go Pro Black 9 cameras. For studio vides at our apartment we use the Sony A6600. We try to get a new camera every 2 years or so if the ones we are using can last that long, but we use them pretty hard. We are trying to hold out until the Go Pro 11 is announced!
like #690. We love you guys.
Thanks!
Thanks! I think we walked through at a long stop, when less people were on so we wouldn't bother people.
I just heard about that horrible Amtrak crash. Prayers for all
We just woke up to it today
@@GroundedLifeTravel 🙏
ARE YALL OK!!! CAN YOU DO VIDEO TO LET US KNOW PLEASE!!
We are good, just in a different time zone right now in Thailand. Thank you!
After the Sunset Chief incident in Missouri recently, and the incident in northern California, I'm a bit reluctant to do any train traveling any time soon.
Really hope you guys are okay!
Thank you, we are!
Haha it does never end! It can happen on any route, depending, we had that happen on the Zephyr.
@@GroundedLifeTravel Wow that is interesting.
Hello guys. No worries about not saying good night. Question, have yall ever been in a bedroom on Amtrak? I have yet to come across a video with you two in a bedroom.
Do you think that traveling from West gives you the best views or better opportunity to see sights? I’m in Alabama, so traveling from New Orleans would be more convenient but I’m traveling for the best experience. Thank you for sharing your experiences & helpful insights!
I think East to West is better for views at the right time. We went over the Mississippi when it was dark going east.
@@GroundedLifeTravel thanks for the response! I learn so much from your videos and blogs! Hoping to plan my first scenic route train trip for my birthday in October! Hope you guys are doing well & staying safe! 💗
Hoping you were not on the Southwest Chief that derailed a few hours ago near Mendon, MO.
Thank you
Another great video!. Learned much and was entertained as well. A long time ago you could take the Sunset Limited to New Orleans, then take another train to DC. Can you still do this?
Yes, you can get on the Crescent in New Orleans all the way to NYC!
Thank you for this info.. ....What a trip that would be! LA to NY! I'd love to take that trip!
We're going to be riding Sunset Limited July 8!!! We'll keep on eye out for Ariel!! BTW is there wifi on board? We're first time ever train riders and so excited!! San Antonio, Texas to New York for our summer vacation!!
There isn't Wifi on the Sunset Limited, so download things you'll want, but you'll have cell service much of the way, it cuts out in rural areas.
@@GroundedLifeTravel No WiFI- in this day an age - too bad that Amtrak does not.
I hope that you guys are okay, and not on today's train which derailed
Thank you, yes we are ok!
Love the back ground music and the subtitles what a great job you two of bring your travels to all of us keep up the great work 👍 😀 👏
Thanks!
Heard about the recent Amtrak tragedies and am hoping you two were not there and are ok. When I heard, I was really worried about you two.
