When I was a child living in Isiolo, Kenya, I witnessed an elephant burial. The elephant had been shot by a game warder as it was causing problems at the edge of the forest. Early in the morning there was a horrendous roar from the herd of elephants as they gathered around their dead mate. They then tore down the surrounding bush and each elephant dutifully covered the dead elephant. When this was done, they retreated with a final cry. What an amazing sight!
For these attributes and their deep soulful bonds, connections and caring for each other, I ADORE elephants! #SaveTheElephant #BANPoaching #BANALLIvoryTrade Education is KEY bc we must also eradicate poverty, as it fosters poaching.
The true understanding about elephants has never really been totally realized up until present years. Humans have finally realized how absolutely incredible the elephant community truly is. We are just now discovering how truly special they are. Their ability to communicate with each other over miles of distances. Its remarkable to say the least. And they honestly love and grieve over the loss of another. What an injustice they have been made to suffer at the hands of humans. Its time to protect their lives and allow them to exist in our world with out harm. 🧐😢😉❤️
The communities living alongside elephants have always understood them, especially around northern Botswana. If they didn't, they would not have co-existed with and protected these mighty animals. Its people who live far from elephants who don't understand them, naturally.
Conservation efforts are crucial to protecting these magnificent creatures and ensuring their survival for future generations. Preserving their natural habitats and promoting coexistence between humans and elephants are essential steps in safeguarding the largest land animals on our planet.
We definitely need to protect them not only because they are such magnificent creatures but they are also one of the top animals who do the most for the ecosystem.
This is a very enjoyable doc and while watching I was reminded of an amazing documentary I saw years ago about a group of elephants who made an epic journey to a cave that was a source of salt for them. They were able to film the elephants with night vision cameras as they went deep inside the cave, guided by their matriarch, and used their tusks to scrape the sides of the cave which was rich in salts. Then then used their trunks to scoop mouthfuls. IN the pitch black darkness! I dont remember where it was but I sure would love to see it again! I believe I watched that in the 80's before I had any means to record it myself. I would love to know more about that now. Has anyone else ever seen or heard of it?
Saw the same documentary a long time ago. I have never forgotten that documentary. I live in South Africa and our wild life is so precious. I am also not sure where the caves were but it was am never to b forgotten filming at night.
