im pretty sure if ya do mate, ye'll enjoy it, the locals in rural areas are for the most part friendly as long as your dog doesn't mess with the farmers flock cos you stupidly let it off its lead, i life in Scotland mate and every day is different, no two views are the same, but this video mate, has captured it brilliantly, i myself am going to try and get my mum to take us a wee road trip up up some where in the highlands ave yet to go, am only 22 and i tell ya mate, it can take ye a life time to see it all in Scotland alone
There are fantastic shots, I recognized the Isle of Skye with Quiriaing, Old Man of Storr and Fairy Pools. There are wonderful memories for me because I could commit to it in June with my feet. Many thanks and thumbs up.
For someone that is looking to get into Aerial Photography and filming and who will be visiting Scotland for the first time later this year, what better inspiration than this John. If I can, in time, produce even a faction of something like this. I'd be grinning from ear to ear. (edit) When watching it a second time, it reduced me to tears. Out-bloody-standing work John.
Absolutely amazing video of an amazing place i had the chance to visit. I am a P3 owner too and thanks to our tool, the world can be rediscovered....congratulations sir.
Beautiful stuff. I get my Mavic Pro next week and I'm taking my motorhome up the West coast of Scotland in April. Hoping for some epic shots. I must set my alarm early.
John hats off to you, this is simply incredible. Brought a lump to my theist watching this magnificent footage of our beautiful country, that last shot in the video of Glencoe with the sunset was one of the most stunning scenes of Scotland I've ever seen. Love your work
Very spectacular video and shows off the dramatic scenery. But the colors look very much enhanced--they are far more vivid than I've seen on my admittedly limited visits to Scotland (edge of the Highlands, around Loch Lomond; Glasgow area; Edinburgh and north to Stirling and to the East Coast (Fife). I would be interested to know if other viewers who have seen more of the country find the colors realistic or romanticized.
Hi first off thank-you so much for your amazing video i have just bought the dji phantom 3 professional and after watching this footage cant wait to use it can i ask did you use any filters for the vivid colors thanks again
Great video. Would love to know if you have any similar footage covering the Cape Wrath Trail locations or if any of this video has any of them included. Im doing the trail in May and it would be great to see it from the air.
Great footage and editing John! :) Currently thinking of getting one myself so looking round for inspiration and this is up there with some of the best i've seen. I think I may only go for the advanced - mainly cost saving but I dont think the internet is ready for 4K yet - my connection cant handle it and i've not even got a 4K TV. 1080p with the advanced should be enough for me i reckon. Have you done some pro drone training or anything? I've been working through a course and I've seen some of the flight patterns you use, on the course :) Great stuff - will definitely bookmark it and come back to watch again. Thanks Damian
+John Johnston Great stuff :) Hope i can achieve some good results too. Just getting the hang of unaided flying with a burner Syma at the mo. The Phantom shoudl be a doddle after this one. :) What do you think to my comments/thoughts on 4k v 1080p? You prob went straight for the Pro being a pro photographer but i'll be more hobby user. What are the file sizes and rendering time like? I can imagine 4k having a lot more to do and a lot more space to store!
+Damian G personally I'd just go for the 4k. It's future proof. The files are obviously a lot larger and slower render times but having the 4k is a bonus.
+John Johnston Well, this is a GREAT video, not only because of the footages; color grading look very nice. Just a friendly remark, not always uniform (have a look a one of the Masters, for instance Yuri Palma and his last works), but this is massive good video. Subb
Nice, any chance you can run down the filming settings used/post production? I assume you did some post production to improve color etc. Currently trying to improve the quality of my own video's posted online
Hi. I always fly in manual mode. 30fps at 4k. I use ND filters so my shutter speeds are always double my frame rate, so 1/60th sec. Always manual white balance so the colour doesn't shift. For editing I use Sony Vegas and use magic bullet looks within that. I hope that helps. :)
Ahh ok, haven't paid attention to the shutter speeds during filming will look at that along with manual white balance for the next flight. Cause I am in AUS ND filters a must as I found when I initially got the drone.
Well I never thought to visit Scotland before. But you my friend, you have changed my mind.
im pretty sure if ya do mate, ye'll enjoy it, the locals in rural areas are for the most part friendly as long as your dog doesn't mess with the farmers flock cos you stupidly let it off its lead, i life in Scotland mate and every day is different, no two views are the same, but this video mate, has captured it brilliantly, i myself am going to try and get my mum to take us a wee road trip up up some where in the highlands ave yet to go, am only 22 and i tell ya mate, it can take ye a life time to see it all in Scotland alone

How do I get such wonderful colors ? I have a Phantom 3 , but the colors on my films are not that saturated ;(
All to do with colour grading. Some folk use a flat profile but I prefer to use the vivid setting, then grade it further with Sony Vegas.
What do you use to edit your videos?! Amazing footage and music!!!
Magnífico. Gracias.
i may be mistaken, but some, not necessarily all, of the scenes were shot in 1080p 60fps correct?
What FPS are you using here? I tend to get flicker in film when filming grass and buildings? Thanks
1/60th using ND filters. Thanks.
Thank you all for the wonderful comments and likes 👍
Brilliant love that video
Dude, this is amazing. The shots from Skye made my eyes wet.
Thanks buddy. Be sure to check out my other reel, 'winter Scotland' :)
Just awsome,thanku sir
