Today - March 7 (2021) is the day of Stan Pranin's passing in 2017. He did so much to bring understanding of the origins and history of the art. It was an honor to know and train with him. Rest in Peace, my friend.

There were 750 styles of jujutsu and 2000 schools in Japan. Two arms, two legs, a torso and a head; there are only so many ways to kick/strike or grab/twist. It is not magic, but it is interesting, fun and challenging. Do not deny yourself the experience of many different basic and supplemental types or you will get bored and not be well rounded.

Stanly was diagnosed with cancer 2 months later, and died 3 months after that. Rest in peace to a wonderful man.
Please people. eat your PLANTS, the foods which fight disease. the higher percentage of your total calories you consume from fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and legumes, the longer you will live.
Stanly died too young at 71

interesting, I thought I recognised sighs in this video (the loss of the fat layer in places like his neck - subtle symptoms to the start of 'wasting'). Although, these can be caused by other things too. How sad when I then looked at the comments to see he was later diagnosed.
btw (and 'imho') - eating right and being healthy does not really protect you 'from' cancer (there are no correlations). These things do make the treatment much easier (especially in the early rounds). So for that alone, it is good to be fit and healthy.
      Peace.

@Bert Clayton aids is terrifyingly worse the Cancer.
I mean, most people have conveniently 'forgotten' the projected death figures from the 80's (for the next 500 years) for aids. And that, was when there was only one type 'type 1' of aids.
I'm shock how many don't know about all the other strains of 'super' (completely incurable and far tougher then type 1) aids there are. Not only that, but because so many have supported open borders in the last few years 'super aids' (type 2 onwards) has spread quietly around the world (thanks to things like lax human-rights laws). Not to mention, the re-spread of Polio and TB through mass migration too.
Again, all being avoided by the mainstream ..because then, they would have to face up to their guilt in the world spread of these diseases. Its the greatest coverup of current times (because no one wants to admit messing up and causing it) , imho that is ;-)

Fascinating this aikido- Daito ryu connection of O Sensei n Takeda sensei.
Tell us more plse...I've always believe in my own mind that O Sensei learnt 'spiritual exercises' fm Sensei Takeda, which took aikido to another level.

Thank you. A couple of questions: how many years (total) did Ueshiba study under Takeda, and did the Aikido technique "Irimi nage" originate in Daito Ryu, or is it purely an Aikido technique? I never see Daito Ryu students practicing it.

The idea that Takeda Sokakuk's (and the final U in Sokaku is not pronounced, his name is Sokak!) is a myth. Everyone practicing Aikido always knew that Takeda Sokaku was the teacher of O'Sensei. No idea what unicorn Mr. Pranin was haunting all his life. (No offense to him, he is a great scholar, but regarding the Aikido - Daito Ryu connection he went very far astray.)

Judoka Murai Kenpachi proved that Aiki does not work against judo by defeating Ueshiba Morihei and Takeda Sōkaku. Takeda Sōkaku, the founder of Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu and teacher of Aikido founder Ueshiba Morihei, was challenged by Murai Kenpachi who was a high school student. Takeda Sōkaku at the time had been called, "God of Budo". Takeda Sōkaku, when he arrived in Hokkaido, bragged, "Judo is a dance. I will accept a challenge from any judoka". Murai Kenpachi issued a challenge to Takeda Sōkaku. As soon as the match started, Murai Kenpachi grabbed Takeda Sōkaku in the lapel and took the fight to the ground where Murai Kenpachi caught Takeda Sōkaku in a choke. Using all the secret techniques of Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu, Takeda Sōkaku tried to escape from the choke, but was choked out in about 10 seconds. After this match, the news with headline " God of Budo Loses to High School Student!! Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu does Not Come Even Close to Judo" spread like a shockwave throughout Japan. Consequently, the fame of Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu was shattered.
Years later, Ueshiba Morihei accepted a challenge from Murai (5th dan in judo at the time) in the form of Bōjutsu vs judo. Ueshiba, despite using a weapon, was defeated by Murai who grabbed and slammed Ueshiba onto the ground.

The important questions are where, when and under what rules set?
I'm not arguing tat either Aikido or Daitō-ryū are uniquely effective, only that the Kodokan has a long history of self promotion through arranged matches under restrictive rule sets.
