Yes, "self defense" is fukuzatsu, complicated. My first karate sensei said to 1st year students: "Don't be so proud at your techniques. If a furious country guy takes a bottle, breaks it and runs towards you, you will forget all your karate and your name and how to run. So take some more years of serious investigating how bad dirty attacks can be. And only then what to do." It takes years to respond immediately and wisely. You need to become a predator in a split of second to be able to harm the attacker's spirit. That's the master level of the defence - attack his spirit.
Glad you're covering these points, Sensei. 'Fight or flight' and fear paralysis is something that can make the best martial artist become helpless in moments. Always, ALWAYS train the mind before the body. When something has already happened in your mind, your body will know what to do to protect you in case of real danger. Been there.
I would like to see how this works when your opponent is drunk, angry, high, or generally not cooperative or responsive. Lots guys are so zoned in that a taser won't work. What then?

Meaningful instruction on the nature of self defense, including situational awareness and aspects of pain compliance. Thank you for your wisdom

mestre incrível 👏👏👏👏
Thanks
Why is he always fighting in that theater? Is that the Toei screening room?
