    all that extra detail in the fumana's bandpass filters shifting phases of the audio gives it that, well, phasery aquatic gooey sound. when i was looking to get an FFB, i really liked the bark and sputnik spectral processor best. i went with sputnik, despite it lacking the tilt functionality. but it also made more sense in the context of other modulation sources i have, not many i own do the full +10v the bark needs to really be pushed around. it has a nasal quality, but like you say, its not better, just different. what i really like about sputnik is how incredible it sounds when overdriven. it distorts in a really satisfying way.

      Do you mind me asking if you’re still loving the Sputnik.. there aren’t many demos about. Does the nasal quality get annoying? I’m using trying to EQ that kind of thing out!

    • @fosferus
      @fosferus 7 місяців тому +1

      @@KillLightuk i do, yeah. it doesnt get too nasal unless you start driving it. but i find having the extra 4 bands which are evenly spaced on the audio spectrum along with filters that have less of a steep rolloff means i can use individual filter outputs in a bit more of a practical way. i still think the bark sounds good, but it seems more of a cohesive unit, rather than a surgical spectral processor extending patching possibilities to the rest of my rack.

    would love for you to do a deep dive demo on how you use your Polyphonic envelope. So few videos about it! Same with Control Voltage Processor.

    • @LucasMarchal
      @LucasMarchal  Місяць тому

      I have to say I haven't explored the poly env too deeply, not enough to make a video about it. The CVP is super useful but it's just a bunch of utilities, nothing crazy about it ! Just patch it in between of your sequences or modulation, so you can add/remove, slew, offset etc... I have a little segment on it in the Model 158 video.

    Hello Lucas, as you put up the faders on the Bark Filter (around 1:30) the last two faders have a strange effect on the sound. Can you explain?
    Apart from that it is surprising how different both modules sound, thanks for the comparison.

    • @LucasMarchal
      @LucasMarchal  Рік тому +2

      Yes, I can't give a precise explanation but I "think" the faders boost the sound a little when pushed to the max, so I this case, with all the sliders up top it does this strange thing... like phase or overloading or whatever. Don't know what to call it. In any case there's a volume drop. It doesn't do it if you back off a little bit and also never does it with sequenced sounds; only when you plug a super strong signal like a drone directly into it. Hope that helps ! I was surprised at how much sonic difference there are too.

    • @LucasMarchal
      @LucasMarchal  Рік тому +1

      Only an adapter cable. With the output volume of the OB6 and inputs boost/trim of the Bark/Fumana it's perfectly fine. In/out module aren't strictly necessary in euro in my experience.

    Thank you for this comparison. I own a Fumana but I’d love to be able to use both of these brilliant modules by two of my favorite brands. If you want the follower leds to show the incoming signal on Fumana, you can mult it to the mod input. For me it really comes alive when patching individual vca’s from around your system, and I’m sure it’ll be the same with the Bark. Especially those high frequency bands on Fumana can add a lot of rhythmic feel and detail to any mix. Why didn’t you patch them in stereo? Anyhow: let’s see if I can find some space for a Bark filter: surely sounds amazing.

    • @LucasMarchal
      @LucasMarchal  Рік тому +1

      I fought about multing after making the video; easy but clunky fix. I agree these filters really are alive once you plug some modulation in the VCAs; but I've already made a big demo of the bark and just wanted to focus on the obvious sonic differences. I never use the odd/even stereo on the bark, might be interesting for the higher bands though !

    I've been wanting something to process Hi-Hats and Rides with, and this seems like a slightly cheaper way vs. an analog vocoder. The Bark decay knob caught my eye as I know a lot of people use Ableton vocoder decay to process Hi-Hats. Have you had a chance to do this? If it worked out, would be the 3rd purchase you have inspired me to make 🤣 Would love to see a video of it. I imagine the Bark would be the better option for what I am looking to do, but curious to her your thoughts. Cheers!

      @LucasMarchal  Рік тому

      I have never tried to be honest. I didn't even know it was a thing ahah ! Gotta give it a try now. Which analog vocoder were you eyeing ?

    • @djdonovan
      @djdonovan Рік тому +1

      @@LucasMarchal The GRP and the Moog are very expensive. Was hoping Moog would do their Spectravox, but it doesn't even do slew (I think). The decay on the Bark is exciting as most vocoders have slew which also affects the attack and I am thinking delay is what I want. I also talked to the guy from Hoeorld/Dromedary about the DIY but he gave up on me when I asked about him building it for me (as well as breaking out the decay), as I don't have the patience to build myself. I know there are some Euro ones as well, but the Bark seems like it might be a winner for my use case. Let me know if you give it a shot. There are a lot of videos of doing it in Ableton, but I've been wanting to do it with hardware. Check it out and let me know 😁

    I'm pretty sure that on Fumana the bandpass filters span between the numbers on the two sides of it, so the first isn't 15hz but 15 to 65 and the last one isn't 22khz but 5.5khz to 22 khz. The values make a lot more sense when you look at them like that :)
