    I have always prefered spinning reels. Of course, as a kid, I had a few Zebco reels. I once tried a baitcaster and wound up trading it for a spinning reel. For me, I just despised the backlashes, tangles and bird's nests that I seemed to always get from other types of reels. Until I changed all of my reels to spinning reels, I often spent more time sorting issues than I did fishing.

    I've got a Diawa BG 5000 on a 9 ft bank pool, I also is a Abu Garcia 6500C3 on a 9.5 foot whiskers seeker rod... I love them both, and have caught some pretty big fish on them...

    Spinning gear is much easier for a new or inexperienced fisherman to learn to use, plus it is nice to be able to swap sides with the handle if you have different people on the boat.
    What I can't explain is, I can only use a spinning reel with my left hand and I can only use a bait caster with my right.
    Personally I almost always use spinning gear anytime I will be casting a lot, its just easier for my old hands. I have both on the boat for catfish, as I prefer level winds and my normal fishing buddy prefers spinning reels but they both work equally well.

    In Ohio, we can use up to three rods. I like the Diawa Emcast reels. Great drag and line capacity and the metal body and frame making them very rugged shore fishing from the riprap. There have been several times that I’ve had two fish on two rods at the same time, and the bait-feeder saved me a lost fish and not to mention, a lost rod and reel.

    That's all I have, I used to use a zebco closed reel, but got tired of getting dirt inside it and it seems like the get rusty! I have a question, you always catch and release, do you ever keep any for eating? What's the best weight for eating?

    I have a question about spinning and baitcaster reels. I'm left handed and retrieve a baitcaster and spinning reel using my right hand. But I've seen right handed people retrieve spinning reels with their left and baitcasters with their right. Doesnt that feel weird? I've always just wondered why that is.

    • @slange455
      @slange455 4 місяці тому +1

      No just something you adjust to or with spinning reels you can change the handle to the right side. Right hand bait caster are strange to me cause we cast and reel with the right hand lol a lot of people buy left hand bait caster so they don’t have to change hands

    • @jamesloerzel4377
      @jamesloerzel4377 4 місяці тому +1

      Spinning you use your left hand reeling in so you don't have to swap hands to cast... Now if you go deepsea fish... You will see some people who reel them left handed... The answer I got was because of how the pump the rod up then reel down... So your rod arm will wear out faster...😊

    • @slange455
      @slange455 4 місяці тому +1

      Biggest advantage to spinning reel is if are casting something like a slip or popping cork you don’t have the back lash nearly as bad.

    • @kaboom4679
      @kaboom4679 4 місяці тому +2

      I'm right handed , but , can cast ( and shoot ) with either hand .
      Yes a left hand retrieve is more efficient and productive for right handed people , but lots of pros who are right handed do just fine throwing right handed casters all day . They either do that switch or learn to cast left handed .
      Personally , I just buy the left hand model casters and be done with it . Spinning reels it doesn't matter , because they are virtually all switchable left or right by design .

    I need to know what you think about H2O Xpress products. I just bought some 30lb line for main (bright orange) and 20lb line (bright green) to use as leader for my 18-20yr old spinner reels that made them feel like totally different reels (in a great way)! Also just realized how all reels and rods in my area aren't rated for 30lb line lol. I'd love a video about using higher lb line on smaller "rated" reels. Most reels stop rating at 15lbs/150yrds.
    Edit: I am fixing to try out and learn a friend's baitcaster setup tmw!

    Most of my rods are made for catfish or musky and the baitcasting rods are long enough to put them under my arm like what you are doing with the spinning rods. My lighter rods for bass are not like that

    Ive changed to all casting for cats. Not because spinning cant handle big fish,just because i prefer them. Ive caught huge cats on spinning and if you think a spinning reel will not handle a fish as big as a bait caster,you are WRONG. Go watch some salt water and deep sea fishing,you'll see.Its all a preference.

    I like spinning reals, but I do most of my fishing by dragging and I like to know how far out my baits are. I run baits 125 to 140 ft out so until they make a spinning reel with a line counter…I’ll stick with bait casters that have a line counter. Just my preference. The biggest hardest pulling thing I’ve ever caught was a stingray and it was on a spinning reel.

    For the bank fishermen the bait runner / bite runner feature is the best addition to the spinning reels since they added a line roller to the bail. Does anyone remember spinning reels without line rollers? Yes I do, I had one many years ago. Good episode thanks

      Some of us remember spinning reels without a skirted spool. Had to take the spool off my Mitchell to get the line out from behind it, and that always happened.

    • @NewHamBasicsKD9ZRO
      @NewHamBasicsKD9ZRO 4 місяці тому +1

      @@davidransom4476 it still happens, occasionally, but not near as often. Those tangles are usually pretty easy to work when you catch them in time. Luckily many reels, now, will bind before it gets too bad to work out.

      @@jamesloerzel4377 I honestly think putting 50# of drag on a fish is not exactly sporting. I would rather lose a fish than do that, but I'm catch and release of trophy fish so thats a little different perspective than someone planning to keep fish.

    I use spinners because Ive had them for quite awhile and see no point in spending the money to replace good working reels.

  • @ChasingtheMoby
    @ChasingtheMoby 3 місяці тому +2

    There is no advantage to baitcasters. As to why catfish people like them, I dont know. What I do know is that when i fish with friends, im fishing while theyre messing with their birdsnest. Also baitcasters are less durable. Unless you're in a boat and everything is always clean, that wormgear is going to fail when you are fishing. I can use a spinner on the boat and dunk it in the water then roll it in the sand on the bank and its not going to fail.
