Awesome video....u actually elaborated the whole thing in a very nice manner
Thank you for the explanation! I managed to make it and it sounds really good. I use it for my bass guitar with backing tracks from my pc and it also works with rocksmith and the nocable fix. Really cool!
Very useful and one of the few videos without any useless crap..thank you
@Gabriel Storti Even with lowest ASIO4ALL settings (with crackles and noise), I found latency still too long.
Yes, you can use any condenser microphone with phantom power, as the MA400 will pass it through with no issues, as specified in the MA400 documentation. I have the C1 XLR and it worked like a charm.
Great demo thanks
Thanks a lot for the reply sir..really appreciate it.
I like your demonstration
Hi!! Just wanted to tell you that I have the same mixer that you have and I did exactly what you said.. and guess what? It Worked! So, many many thanks for your help from Buenos Aires (Argentina) to wherever you are... :)
Ainda Nao Sei Glad I could be of small help from Sydney, Australia.
Great explanation.
can you connect a mixer to a audio interface into a mic preamp and also is it good to record thru a mixer whith ep on
Is that the ma400 usefull for record the song without back track recorded in second track..?coz now I'm only using xenyx q502 usb but can't avoid the back tracking recorded in my multi track recording..hope u can help me sir
.
and i love your seat!
Thanks. It is comfortable. LOL!
Glad it was informative and helpful.
Thank you. You're the best...

Thank you. Appreciate your comment.
if using Behringer Xeny Q802 Usb (Plus Audio Interface) without MA400, is it working? in zero latency and music track?
The Q802USB is already an Audio Interface with USB. Not sure why you need another audio interface, unless you are using the analogue part for either mic recording or headphone mix, which, depending on you audio interface, does not make much sense. Maybe you can describe a bit more of your setup?

hello can i record electric and acoustic guitar with behringer xenyx q502usb and a behringer xm-8500 usind reaper ?
can the ma400 and Behringer Xenyx Q502 be used for any recording software such as fl studio& mixcraft?
If on top of that i want a midi controller like a yahama keyboard where do i plug the Midi cable output ? The mixer doesn't have one so i'd need to place a sound card between the mixer and daw, zero latency in this this case is still gonna be zero latency?
Now in such a structure what would you recommend in order to keep the same baselayer and add a midi controller like a piano in order to compose a record using a built in plugin (FL studio for example)
Hey! Can I be able to use the "MA 400" as my ear monitor?
Yes, you can use Audacity to record a multitrack songs using the same method as shown. There are lots of videos on UA-cam demonstrating how to do multitrack with Audacity.
thank you :)
OK imagine i add one layer to your setup as far as i would like to have not only the headphone as the output but the headphone plus a soundbar plugged with 3.5mm JACK, could i add Behringer HA400 coming out of MA400 and then split the sound in two different ways bother the headphone and the soundbar , how about that
Question 1: If i connect my Mic to The mic input and connect another XLR cable to the Mic output of the Behringe400 to some speakers... Will the sound come out of the speakers or no sound?
Question 2: I dont know if that mixer has an aux or not but is it better to Connect an audio cable from the Input monitor of the Behringer 400 in to an Aux send port of the Main mixer or Just Connect it directly in to the Headphones Output like you did? Thanks! :)
Historias De Miedo Answer 1: Not directly, as the XLR Through is mic level output. You can connect it to a Powered Speaker that has Microphone input. Or, to a mixer that has microphone input.
Answer 2: Yes, if you are connecting the MA400 to a mixer that has Aux bus output, it will work perfectly (at it was intended) and you can even adjust Aux bus levels as well. The only reason I used headphone out was because of the Q502 mixer I used for the demonstration.
During vocal takes, I have MA400 Monitor Input connected to my AB1818VSL line outputs 7 & 8 (Or any of the other line outputs). This allows the vocalist to have their own vocal/music mix balance, while I listen directly from AB1818VSL headphone out.
when i connect my yamaha psr 550 piano to mic input and start incresing the mic input volume knob noise starts and the signal is very high even at 10 percent volume on ma400 pls help
The MA400 is for Microphones only. Try connecting directly to your mixer's line level input.
Can I use a C3 or C1 (Behringer condenser microphone) on it? The Phantom Power will turn it on or won't since it's a 15V phantom power :S Will I REALLY need another audio interface for latency or ASIO4ALL can fix? Is there an ASIO Driver that comes with this XENYX? or it's an independent plug and play audio interface? I hope you can answer me that. Thank you.
In this fancy set up now where can I plug my studios monitor ? In the main out in the mixer or with a splitter on the MA400
Mixer main outputs
I need one information... Will I hear to anything I say trough the mic in my headphones (to phones - set / to main mix- unset)?
Yes, what you will hear, depending also on your recording software, the audio returning from the PC, which means delayed. The whole reason for this video is to show how to avoid the delay and using MA400, to listen directly with no delay/latency.
Can you please do a video on how to use the Xenyx Q502 as an In-Monitoring System? THANKS! :))
thanks bro
Make sure you watch the new version of this video as well.
@ YD: I think one avoids latency by pressing the 'to phones' button for the USB/2-track option. In that case one can also work without the MA400, which only (but important) benefit is to regulate separate volumes of 1. the (pre) recordings from the computer and 2. the line in/mic you want to record. This is how I understand it: please anyone correct me if I'm wrong as I have not tried it myself yet.
Jeroen Kruft Unfortunately, the phone output audio routing only allows audio from mixer (live audio) OR from USB return (recorded audio). If you need to listen to recorded and live together, like in my example, my demonstration is the only way for normal USB Stereo 2 channel systems to work around it. Hence the reason of my experiment.
Otherwise, you have to rely on the latency for the live audio signal reaching your DAW and returning back from the USB stereo signal.
Yes, the trick is - as always - to not monitor your live audio through your DAW but through a console. The only latency you will still have is when triggering sample libraries in the computer (keyboard), for which you then set the buffers low as to minimize it.
Excellent video!!
Can I plug an electric guitar to the monitor input for silent practice
Yes, but you would need a pedal with line level output.
I did the same setup using the MA400 but with a Yamaha MG10XU. I am hearing my voice twice. First time is with zero latency and second time is like 1/4 of a second later. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to stop this from happening. My mic audio is making a round trip back from the USB and into my mixer. I cannot figure out how to get my mic audio to "stop" at the PC and not be sent back into the mixer.
Make sure the recording track doesn't have monitor button enabled.
dont i have t have the main mix setting pushed down if i want to hear it through my monitors?
When recording microphones, you don't want monitors on as the audio will feed into the mic. You need closed over ear headphones, and having the "to main" up means the audio from the USB only goes to the headphone and not back into the main mix bus. Hope this helps.
Hey, I plugged my electric guitar into Line In (jack input) and I don't hear the sound of it on headphones. I can only hear my voic through mic plugged into this mixer.. any advice?
+Naudir Line in jack, though the same as the guitar's lead plug, is for musical instruments that have higher signal level e.g. Keyboard, CD player, Synth or MP3 player.
Guitar's require more sensitive input preamp, similar to the mic input, but at different impedance.
The Q502USB does not have guitar input. You will need a guitar pre-amp that accepts guitar jack lead and has line level output.
+RecordingStudio9.com Sorry for that question, the reason of my problem was damaged jack cable. ;d
Audacity program to be used?
hi.. great video.. can you make a similar video for Yamaha AG03 usb Mixer
I have several videos already on my channel on Yamaha AG03 ua-cam.com/video/8KwwoC9MiXs/v-deo.html
I'm a drummer, can I use the mixer as my In ear monitor System without using the MA400?
Do it have any Latency without the MA 400? Thank You! :)
I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 audio interface and Pro Tools 12 for recording vocals.. Is this mixer a good choice for my set up? Is it compatible with Pro Tools? Do I even need a mixer?
JPK732 No, you do not need a mixer as your Scarlett 2i4 is a better recording mixer/audio interface.
Exodus Drummer: Yes, you can use the headphone out as your in-ear monitoring with no latency. Latency effect is due to recording software. No need for MA400.
sir i am from india,
wich mixer give me, vocal sound like profesional recording studio, behringer 502q usb. is best of yamaha mg10xu,
i hear it, only digital mixer give us studio quality, its right?
can we convert analog mixer vocal to digital sound ?
If you need the extra channels on the mixer and can afford the Yamaha MG10XU, then get the Yamaha, as it also has better USB audio A/D D/A converter at 24bit/192Khz.
Apart the Yamaha having 10 channels (4M +3S) it has FX built in.
Yamaha should give you better audio quality than the Behringer Q502USB
Thanks for this video. Can you make another video showing the settings in reaper. Im interesting in the audio device settings. I hope you can help me. Thanks in advanced
I'll see if time allows me to do another video with REAPER settings displayed. It is a matter of selecting the correct driver in the OPTIONS.
and what are the compatible audio editing softwares for q502?
JayAdanteMusic Any audio recording software should be compatible.
why did you use ma400? whats the purpose?can we use only the q502 for recording.? please reply i really2 need to know if i can use only the q502 for recording.
As I explain in the video, with any audio processing by the PC, the audio travelling from the mixer to the PC recording software and back to the mixer so you can hear it, takes time, enough to be noticeable (latency). The MA400 allows you to listen via the hardware direct routing. If not, you have to try it out to find out what I mean.
Of course this only applies if you are multi-track recording. If you what to just record from the mixer, like a live performance, the MA400 is not required.
Hope this explains.
Maybe a silly question, but when using this setup (Q502USB*MA400)does the phantom power in the Q502USB needs to be on (i use a condenser microphone)?
+Nelson Binda
Never a silly question. If you are using condenser microphone that requires Phantom Power, yes you do need to enable it on the Q502USB mixer. MA400 will simply pass the power through to the microphone. MA400 does not have Phantom Power option, it needs to come from the mixer.
Hope this answers.
+RecordingStudio9.com Thank you again.
My apollo twin has a Left & Right Monitor Out and I was wondering how I could get that same stereo signal out of the MA400 when the MA400 only has one monitor input. Is there a way to merge the L and R signal into one with a stereo Y splitter cable that can go into the single monitor input on the MA400 since I heard that the input is stereo?
Yes, you can get a Y splitter, one TRS 6.5mm (stereo headphone plug) on one and and split into two TS 6.5 (mono plug) on the other end. This is the exact lead/cable I use when required.
wait why would I put it into the headphone jack and not the 1/4 in stereo monitor input of the MA400? I want the audio from the apollo to lead into the MA400 so that I can monitor it with headphones in a separate room. Macbook
No, I was describing the cable/lead, not the connection. The MONITOR INPUT of MA400 is Stereo socket, and your L & R monitor output is 2 jacks.
a Photo homestudiodoctor.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Inserts-2-tagz.004.png
oh, i thought you were referring to a 3.5mm aux cable when you said 6.5mm, my bad. I was also confused when you said (stereo "headphone" plug) since I was expecting to hear monitor input. Thanks for the quick responses!
Sorry for the confusion in the translation.
great video
Can I add effects in my daw as autotune and reverb and listen what can I song live? with zero latency?
Not sure AutoTune works on live audio, it needs recorded audio. I can be corrected. But WAVES does have like AutoTune VST that you can certainly use.
I think the question is can they use effects from the computer program without latency. How I understand this is the live track you are hearing is the sound before it goes into the computer. If that is the case the answer would be no, to hear the effects from your computer on to the track as you're recording it would require latency.
can you connect this to a keyboard? I mean it only has mic in and out, can you use these? and hten use the monitor in for the rest of the band.
+Pav L.
Good question. Yes you can, but you will need a DI Box, that not only converts 6.5 Jack to XLR, but also has PAD switch with -40db, or at least -20db. This is because keyboard has line level output and the MA400 has mic level input.
Also, it is only a mono input. Will work with Synths, but not stereo output, unless you make it mono using combiner lead.
Have a look at my updated video, that might help you getting your stereo keyboard in, in stereo. ua-cam.com/video/9w9ovvHmlEc/v-deo.html
+RecordingStudio9.com cheers man!
Why can't you just use the Q502? Why not just plug it directly to the mixer and listen to phones on the mixer? What are the result of not using the MA400?
The phone output gives you the option of either 'live' channels or 'recorded' playback from your PC, but not both at the same time without having latency. This setup with MA400 allows you to listen to 'live' audio, as well as recorded with no latency.
Latency is the time it takes for the sound to go through the mixer, then the USB Analogue to Digital conversion into your PC, for the PC to process the audio, return in back via USB Digital to Analogue conversion and into the headphone. All this process takes time, long enough to give the listener a delayed audio signal that they hear themselves after few hundred milliseconds (and it is very annoying).
Hope this explains.
RecordingStudio9.com Okey, thank your for your fast answer, I did not know about either live or recorded assumed you could play the computer sound as a channel through usb then have everything in the mixer while listening through the phones outout.
Jakob Mellberg That is ideal, but you get that on higher and expensive mixers or audio interfaces. Otherwise, the stereo signal coming from PC will end up in the mix and back to the PC, creating a feedback loop, hence the reason for the USB to 2-Track or headphone button.
Glad I could help explain.
If you add a external compressor/limiter/gate like the behringer mdx 2600 in this setup, first and formost where would you insert it, second of all is the zero latency feature still valid ?
Not possible with MDX 2600 since it’s line level input and output where MA400 has mic level output.
@@RecordingStudio9 then what about the RCA loop technique, I was thinking about slotting it between the microphone and the line level input on the mixer

Hello! I would like to buy Micromon MA400 in order to get a louder monitoring from my controller. I have a Traktor Kontrol S2 and the monitoring sound is really low. I was wondering if this really amplifies my headphones. Please reply. Thank you!
Not owning one, I just checked the headphone output specs for TK S2, and no power output is mentioned other than +2db for 32ohm headphone impedance. Maybe you can try headphones with around 32 ohm or lower, or try the MA-400 as it has 60mW or +10db for 100ohm headphones. Compare the headphone output spects. Hope this helps.
RecordingStudio9.com Thanks a lot. My headphones, does not meet this requierements. Do you have any ideea if i can find a headphones amplifier?
What make and model headphone you have?
hello, can yo tell me wich of the two devices cancel the latency? can I use the xenyxq 502 to plug in a midi controler to my pc and avoid the latency?
The Xenyx Q502 does not have any MIDI connections, and MIDI controller keyboard or device does not have any audio out.
Not sure what your question is?
thanks! my cuestion is : is it this console a recording sound interface? like the m-audio pro interface?
joseggf1 Well, yes as a stereo in and out and no, not like M-Audio with multi channel interface. I'm demonstrating how you can make it to be multi-channel, with some limitations.
What if i don't use an MA400. Can I record vocals and guitar at the same time using the Behringer Xenyx Q502 USB only, by using its multiple inputs?
***** Absolutely you can. But recording multiple tracks allows you to record each instrument seperately so if you make a mistake, you don't have to play the whole song again.
Hey thanks a lot. But I want to know if when I record using two inputs of the behringer, for example one for vocal and one for guitar.. Will the DAW recognize it as two separate inputs and record them in two separate tracks at the same time ?
***** No, the USB is simple stereo 2 channel. If you have 1 mic for vocal and another input for guitar, then you can take advantage and pan one Left and the other Right, then the 2 channel stereo can be 2 mono tracks in your DAW. That is the best way. OR, watch my video in full and find out how I use it to record multi-track.
Okay.. I appreciate your help a lot ! Thanks a lot man ! I have seen the full video, and it was awesome ! But I am looking for something as I have described in the same range as the xenyx 502 usb. So if you could help me in finding something that records two inputs as two separate tracks in a DAW via USB at the same time for around the same budget I would be extremely greatful ! Thanks man for all this help. :)
***** Not for the same price. Best options would be PreSonus, M-Audio, Focusrite or others, but the price will double or more. Best to use these mixers as left & right and treat them as 2 mono tracks in your DAW.
very good explanation., I just wanna ask what's the name of application for that recording I'm interested to download it.,
The recording software I used for demonstration was REAPER from www.reaper.fm
+RecordingStudio9.com thank you very much my friend.,
Can i do this to a regular interface like behringer 404?
Yes, you can.
sir tell me, can i use yamaha mg10xu for good quality song recording at my home,
wich is another best interface for song recording.
2
Q2. what is difrent between analog and digital interface. yamaha mg10xu is analog or digital ???
which is the best for singer.?
It all depends what type of instruments you will be recording. Normally 'digital' mixers have digital signal mixing process and are very expensive. For home recording, if you need simple stereo USB audio recording, Yamaha or Behringer or any similar USB mixer will do. They all convert the main analogue bus to digital USB audio interface.
If you need to record multiple instruments at the same time onto different tracks, then you need multitrack USB/Firewire Audio Interface like PreSonus 2i2, 4i4, Behringer FCA610 or FCA1616, M-Audio, Focusrite and many more. But they are bit more expensive than simple stereo USB mixers.
Hope this helps.
RecordingStudio9.com i wanna record only vocal ,
Arbuda Pathawada Then you can do with just Behringer Q502USB. Like in my example.
is this ma400 with q502 good enough to record guitar, bass and synths? thanks for the tutorial was great.
Yes, you can use them to record any song.
RecordingStudio9.com thanks a lot, im going to buy all this equipment for my home studio.
GorrAion Zen Make sure you watch my UPDATED video here ua-cam.com/video/9w9ovvHmlEc/v-deo.html that does not require MA400.
You've cranked up the volume knobs pretty much all the way up. Are the ma400's headphone outs not powerful?
+yomeportobien
The headphone power output is about 60mw. It all depends on the loudness in the headphone required and the headphone's impedance & sensitivity.
Though you see me crank the headphone level up 75% just before the video cut, I did take it lower later on, as it was bit too loud. I normally would have it just above half way.
Good quality headphone outputs normally would have 100mw, so the MA400 is slightly less, but still enough for headphones with 32~100 ohm impedance.
Hope this answers.
Thank you, really helped!
Is their anything i need to download, my mixer doesnt seem to be working and do i want to use the main mix or the to phones one. Kinda confused why a plug in play isnt working.
No driver software is required for Behringer Xenyx USB mixers. They use standard Windows/Mac OS drivers.
What recording software are you using?
Can you see the mixer in your control panel Sound Devices?
so if i want to use this for my pc i just plug the usb in and it should work. what do i need to use for the usb/2 sound track click down to phones or to mixer.?
im just using this for a mic not musical related
oh sorry didnt see the whole thing one second
I use something called OBS its for live streaming games form pc
So with no MA400 I'll have big latency? ASIO4ALL can fix that or can't? Thank you...
download the drivers in the behringer official page. I have a xenyx qx 1202 usb and before i install the drivers i have latency problems even with asio4all, After I install the drivers the latency dissapear
***** Thanks for that info. Never seen drivers for it, but will check it out.
RecordingStudio9.com you are welcome, I dont have your model mine is behringer xenyx qx1202 usb, and the drivers are in the official homepage of behringer, maybe you could try download the drivers of my model and who knows, it could work in your mixer
***** Thanks. Will do another video with drivers installed and see if there are any and how much latency.
why wouldnt u want to go directly to the mixer ?
+Adam R.
Thanks for asking, but the answer is in my video already. Please watch it again. A simple answer, issue with latency when recording multiple layered tracks song.
Can i record with guitar too mate?
+Chris Kats
Great question. Well for acoustic guitar, it is no different to vocal, the same microphone can be used. For electric guitar, you will need a DI Box to convert the guitar output down to microphone level.
Make sure you also watch my updated video showing zero latency with no MA400!
ua-cam.com/video/9w9ovvHmlEc/v-deo.html and my latest video on DI Boxes ua-cam.com/video/ieyWtQ2Us6g/v-deo.html
Can I record instruments just with the Q502?
Of course, that is what the mixer is for, just as long as you don't need to listen to previously recorded tracks for multitrack recording, otherwise you will have latency, which can be very annoying.
RecordingStudio9.com so the ma400 is for the latency? Where do I plug in the instruments? The mic port? What are those line in for? Sorry for asking so many questions I'm quite new to this.. I want to understand the mixer and system before purchasing anything. Thanks
Alvin Nichol Never stop asking questions. More than happy to answer.
My question is, what are you trying to record and what type of recording? Simple single track or multitrack song?
RecordingStudio9.com
A simple voice and guitar.. Maybe I lay the guitar track 1st then later the singing
Alvin Nichol If you have watched the video all the way, you will see how I record my voice several times on multiple tracks, while listening to the previous track. You can record the guitar via a DI box to MA400 then mixer and follow by recording your vocals. Seams lot of equipment to have, but unless you spend $300-$400 for a PreSonus 22VSL or similar Audio Interface, there is no workaround for latency (delay). Maybe search a second hand one cheap on eBay?
RecordingStudio9.com where to plug the monitor speakers? Sorry for questioning that i am novice for this. Hoping for an immediate answer :)
Digmaan GenSan The mixer has main Left + Right jack output for active speakers or to amplifier & speakers.
uhm is Behringer XENYX Q502USB is a good audio interface? Im really getting confused becuse some says that recording in a mixer is not advisable but i dont have the money or budget for a Fast track audio interface. I will use it for just vocals/guitars esp. rapping
Digmaan GenSan It is perfect for starting out. It is cheap and easy to use. Any audio interface like Fast Track, is a mixer. Just has different look, audio quality pre-amp and analogue to digital conversion processor.
Thank you sir!!!
I just want to ask does the mic need a pre amp so that I could use it on the MA400 ? Specifically on this setup . i.imgur.com/89p3cAZ.png . I subscribed to your channel!
+geocine
Yes, your setup will work. Your SmartPhone will record the mic, as long as you have the correct TRRS splitter cable www.littlesun.com.au/images/201306/goods_img/65_P_1371475414840.jpg. Then you are able to adjust the mic and audio feed from your SmartPhone while listening in your headphone. If using Condenser mic, then you can get the Behringer Micropower PS400 Phantom Power Supply, and have it between the mic and the MA400. This setup may give you much better audio than simple iphone mic.
Hope this helps.
RecordingStudio9.com thank you for the fast reply. I will be using a dynamic microphone do I still need to use the PS400?
No MA400 is all you need.
Glad I could help.
Hi RecordingStudio9.com , I hope you don't mind if I ask you another question. I am hearing audio from my mic thru. I am using a TRS splitter 3 pole 3.5mm (Audio/Mic). Here are the only cables connected to my MA400 . Please check the image i.imgur.com/Qp3pHv7.png . Do you think my TRS splitter is broken or is not truly a mic/audio splitter, just an ordinary stereo splitter? This is labeled audio/mic splitter though from some online site.
Connect your dynamic mic using the XLR to 6.5 Jack (TRS I assume) with adaptor 6.5 to 3.5 (TRS) into the audio TRRS splitter (Photos shows correct) and see if any audio is recorded on your smart phone.
The splitter basically separates the TRRx to Headphone Out and xxRS as Mic Input.
When you plug your Mic lead with adaptor (TRS) into TS socket of the mic, is simply grounds the Ring (+cold) of the balanced mic, making it now an unbalanced connection, that should still work.
I'll see if I can replicate your setup and try it myself.
Nice presentation and easy to follow. I have the Q802 and I have been unable to eliminate the latency through the USB with Cubase 5 and Audition 3 although my computer is powerful enough it being an i7 quad core with 6 gig of ram. Another youtube video shows a man achieving zero latency using the x1204 (thru USB) with a more recent version of Cubase - no ma400 or rca cables necessary. ua-cam.com/video/k8vbJL6Y2U8/v-deo.html However, even with the newer version of Cubase, I doubt that this program would eliminate the latency with a Q502/802. The other comment I'd like to make, is that the MA400 solution you are proposing would defeat the purpose of having a multi-channel mixer as I see it. In other words, you are restricted to only one mic or instrument. As for the RCA solution, I don't like the fact that there's a risk of blowing the circuit board. I look forward to reading your response, and I hope you keep turning out these informative videos.
The lowest latency you will get using Behringer original drivers are just above 20ms, this would be the case even in the video you listed. BTW, he is a subscriber of my channel. Cool.
I do use both ASIO4All and Behringer Driver, and they both achieve about the same latency. I have no issues with ASIO4All using my Q502USB.
With all Xenyx mixers, no matter how many channels the mixer has, the USB will only provide you the Main Bus stereo output and input.
I have seen people use 2 mixers to achieve same result, instead of feeding the 2-Track USB-RCA output back to the RCA input, they connect the RCA output to the other mixer, as well as Mic output to the second mixer etc, confusing as hell!
The only way you will get zero latency (
So is there a relatively inexpensive piece of hardware that could be used with the Q502 or Q802 that would achieve zero latency and also allow for multiple instruments to be plugged into the mixer for recording?
