This tech was used against Fuudo during the CR Cup tournament at match point for Fuudo in a FT3. Its crazy to think that Daigo literally learned this less than a day prior and used it to make a comeback while almost losing the set to completely taking the whole tournament. What a Beast.👍

Ryu carries too much legacy baggage for Capcom to solve the identity crisis for the character. I'm convinced that he's a benchmark character for the rest of the cast to be evaluated by.
He’s purposely the most honest charachter. This game has tons of Ludonarrative harmony in its fighters actually. The most evil charachter, JP, also happens to be the most hated character with the cheapest frustrating moves. (I’m a JP main). They sacrificed a little balance for more interesting charachter and I love that tbh.

What's so good about being pointblank and -2?
Constant corner pressure. More options for unpredictability. It leads directly into throw on block-and if you haven't done it much, they might not react to tech it.
Prolly can threaten offense with strike and throw since you ain't crazy minus
I might be wrong but I think JP’s counter doesn’t work on projectiles? I might be wrong though
I'd like to understand what the video is about too. Is it to counter JP's wake-up parry?
My take on this:
+ Beats any kind of reversal button/throw/jump/backdash.
+ Beats level 1 and non projectile invincible options (JP counter).
++ combo on hit
- Loses to blocking: is safe but minus on block on a somewhat scary situation.
- Loses to ex dp
Conclusion:
+ Good reward on hit,
+ Risk is relatively low when wrong,
- - passive defense wins, will be wrong more often than not.
Seems to be an ok option to throw when properly conditioned.
