Thank you for the video. I had a lower anterior resection on 5/1/24 and about a month later a leak broke through my colon/vaginal wall and so had a transverse colostomy surgery on 6/2 and it’s been a very hard recovery so far. I think even harder than chemo and radiation was last year. I definitely had the moments and thoughts of being better off dead, especially when in severe pain but I do want to live and be there with and for my family. Prayers of strength and hope for anyone reading this.
I’m about to have a colostomy. It is very helpful to see others who have gone through this too! I had an illeostomy for three months. This will be permanent. Thanks for all the help you give!
The best things I did for myself was to find others that were also going through what I was. No one want to feel alone. Wishing you a speedy recovery. You got this!
@@thewisepowerchair2369 hope you do wonderfully! It’s something to get used to but the products are so much better now. I had a illeostomy for three months to save my life from radiation burns. I now have a permanent colostomy. The products are so much better! Stay strong and remember you’re one of so many that are willing to help!
3 weeks after my ostomy.Thankyou for your tips I am still trying to process it as it was an emergency operation, so it has been a big shock, but I am still here, so very thankful for that.
@@catherinetheobald7627 Catherine, my first time was an emergency to save my life. After three months it was reversed. I now after 18 yrs have a permanent colostomy. I had radiation disease that continued to get worse! You will get used to it and today you can talk with so many others that are living the same way!
The video that I needed to view. Thanks much Tim, I'm 7 days post op and home. The tips are awesome and really helpful. I will view again and again. takeCare
Great tips! I just had my surgery March 15 (subtotal colectomy with ileostomy. Keeping it permanently but have decided no "barbie butt" surgery in the works for me for a very long time. Just a personal decision due to bad healing) I definitely needed these! The IBD/ostomy community part on Instagram has been invaluable to me! I love your vids so far! Positive and informative and love your sense of humor!
Thank you for sharing this. I'm about 6 weeks post-op. And everything you said hits the nail on the head. I wish you luck in your journey. And again just thank you for this.
On my journey, i have been let down twice by surgeons. The first time i phoned the colostomy organisation, here in the UK, they connected me with a volunteer, and that was helpful. The second time, about a year or so later, the lady said to me,'You are in the same position you were before'. I replied, 'you could be telling me that after my colostomy surgery'. I realised then that the best form of support is you, yourself. How you handle it, deal with it, your mindset.
@@thewisepowerchair2369 So very true! Now you also have a lot of new friends who understand just what you go through. Just stay strong and know you are not alone!
My hubby is getting a temp ileostomy. He is a bigger guy, and I am trying to figure out what pants or shorts work best right after surgery. I assume no elastic waists.. thoughts? Thank you so much for your video.
No question loose fitting pants will be more comfortable to start but he should be able to wear whatever he wants eventually. I hope everything went well and your husband is on the road to recovery!
@@mohamedsultan7160 mine is now permanent. I had cancer 18 yrs ago and was over radiated. I had an illeostomy for three months and then had it reversed. My situation became worse over the years with incontinence. I will take this anytime over the way I was living. Hope yours isn’t as severe!

His tips are totally useful and I actually learned a lot for my studies. He is the most knowledgable Doctor in Europe and he teaches conditions.
