Great interview. Travis talking about knowing where you are at as a cop: When I was an FTO I always drilled into my trainees heads to know where you were at all times. Every time you turn onto a new street look at the street sign and look for a block number. Nothing worse than having to call for code cover and not knowing where you are. Just found your channel BTW. Great show. Much respect to all you guys. One thing about the the red dot argument is we are wired to stare at the threat. That is probably why you didn't pick up your front sight. With the red dot, you don't have to take your focus off the threat.

I’ve been a cop for 3.5 years and got hired by NYPD right out of college, it was a total grind and I worked in a shit hole precinct in the south bronx but I loved how busy it was and all the action. The police academy is fucking useless other then learning the law, everything you learn is on the job and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying, luckily last December I got hired by my towns PD and have a much better quality of life. Just have common sense and know how to talk to people that’s the biggest key. Stay safe out there and your a seal you can do anything you want.
Travis was a benefit to the police agency. We're aware of a law enforcement agency in CA where many officers carried there semi auto pistols unloaded. The magazine was loaded but the pistol chamber was left empty. These goofballs were afraid of shooting themselves. Many of the sr retired goofballs. There are a few left.... People have no idea what incompetent morally defective people are in law enforcement. Thank you for sharing your videos. Absolutely truthful information 👌🙏

if you train to find your front sight you are going to put in thousands of reps. that muscle memory is going to help when you adrenaline dump and you don't find your sights. Also, train with a red dot. I did 300 dry fires last night alone drawing and finding my dot.
3 OIS in my LEO career two on patrol one on our SRT. Saw my red dot in all three. I personally think that was a bad take. Up close they are just as effective or ineffective as irons but 15yds or greater its a WAY better tool to have on the gun. My first shooting was a gun fight from 30ish yards he fired 15 and hit air, I fired 5 four hit him. I'd rather have the dot and not use it than need it at range and not have it. Lastly red dots are used in a taget focused manner so if i am fixated on the threat with a proper repeatable grip the dot will be superimposed on the threat. Also you guys should try to get Jared Reston on to talk about his experiences as well he's a super solid dude.
it would be good to hear the point of view from an Afghani equivalent of a Navy Seal and what makes them as capable as they have shown i.e. get right into their mindset and how they confronted and ultimately defeated the most sophisticated military in the world. We can learn from these guys.

My "A" school was on Coronado Island..GMT/WT ... tactical nuclear weapons... later as an E-5, I would become a MAT team leader for small arms,pyrotechnics & demolitions for NATO . . Started training to make it to BUDs, met my future wife and came home instead. Love watching the videos, War Stories, and drive and determination that brought men up through, and into the teams. Now that I am a grandfather, it all seems so long ago. Proud of all of those of you who served, and persevered through the hardships:-)
Awesome podcast . . I think when you become proficient at shooting you are gonna make shooting be at a SUB concious level . I'm not MIL or LE but I do shoot 2 COMPETITIONs monthly . On a 2Gun stage if you were to ask me if I saw my sights at all I'm gonna say I see bits in and pieces of my dot because my sights are always in constant motion . I bet i am actually looking at dot i just cant tell because my Carbine or PISTOL is in constant Motion. I'm target focused and not front sight focused. For almost a full year I put a piece of tape on the front of my 507C-X2-ACSS so I could be target focused. I do not know if this Agreed or disagree with what you guys are talking about . Lastly this might be controversial but in the COMPETITION world SOCOM guys are High C or low B class shooters . Which is actually pretty good . The Mil dudes have so much other shit to learn besides shooting . Whereas the Comp shooters that all they do is shoot . I've shot against quite a few SOCOM dudes at 2Gun matches and they were excellent but they get smoked . I'm a middle of the road Comp shooter . I'll probably make B Class for sure this year and maybe A or M next year . I'm definitely not some billy bad ass shooter that's a fact . I will perform well and my gun handling skills are among the best . Love the podcast .. I live outside the DMV area and there is some pipe swinging bad asses out this way . Big agencies generally have to deal with more polítics my man. You can always look to lateral to a smaller department and make sure you look into the city council. Make sure they’re supportive of their police department.
The why this country treets its vets is crazy we have sent theese guy to war a excessive amount of time wo properly helping them re intergrate hence why 22 die by their own hand daily

I disagree with the comment “I train cops better things than I do to citizens”. Civilians are more likely to use their firearms than LEOs are. Remember, LEOs get there in time to write the report. And if a cop can’t shoot, then they shouldn’t be carrying a pistol. Plain and simple.

As LEO we should push our self to evolve our training and profession by always looking around in the areas in which we as LEO can benefit from. I understand what you’re saying as far as evolving in our profession. I am only speaking from personal experience in being involved in several shootings. Science says you have a high probability of not finding your front sight and point and shooting. My argument is having cops with minimal to no experience with firearms trying to be too high speed with gear they’re uncomfortable using. Nonetheless it’s a topic of discussion. We shouldn’t wait till some horrific incident happens to Institute change. We have to understand that by enlarge admin is only doing what’s good enough to not be sued that’s it. It’s up to us to close the gap as much as possible. We owe it to ourselves, our partners, our community but most importantly those that wait for us at the end of our shift ,whatever time that may be., so they can fall asleep to the comforting sound of Velcro . We owe it to them. We must do better. Let’s step outside the our Comfort zone and explore all avenues.
I understand what you’re saying as far as evolving in our profession. I am only speaking from personal experience in being involved in several shootings. Science says you have a high probability of not finding your front sight and point and shooting. My argument is having cops with minimal to no experience with firearms trying to be too high speed with gear they’re uncomfortable using. Nonetheless it’s a topic of discussion.
