I had one of these in blue. I remember sitting in the bike shop with my mum as she was to be my guarantor for the finance. I was only 16 and thought the AP50 looked quite big at that time. Funny thing is, many years later I bought a Suzuki 1200 Bandit from the same shop. Engine size approximately 24 times bigger 😂
Left school at 16, got a job and a brand new AP50 in blue on HP, my dad being guarantor. I did a lot of miles on that bike and it was 'freedom'. Wish I was 16 again.
I had the first one in Stamford, They were delivered to St Michaels motors in the October 1975. I paid a deposit straight away, But I didn't turn 16 until January 1976....... I used to stare through the window looking at it. It was blue MAV 270P. It was a great little bike.
My dad collects old bikes like this, but mostly 100cc and up. I got very interested in Suzuki AC50 when I discovered he allready had 2 of them. One restored and the other one in parts. He gave the one in parts for me to restore and get it back on the road
My first ever bike in 1978. The first time I rode it on public roads I left the choke out. Went slower and slower - a cyclist overtook me : o ) Also got gone for speeding on it in Gosport.
When I had my AP50 me an my two mates (who both had 50cc Gilera's) would go to the Gulf petrol station on Glasgow Road in Edinburgh to fill up. 40p a gallon! the stinger was 10p for a squirt of two-stroke which was ridiculously expensive. My AP50 was technically superior to the Italian bikes as it had a two-stroke tank, squirt-squirt-squirt till the tank was full. "Here's your 50p petrol-station attendant", went on for months till no more two-stroke pumps, bottles only available in the shop...!
16 years old in 1980, downhill, tailwind, 57mph, hooked for life ever since!
