Amazing that these steamboats made very little smoke -- their crews must have figured out how to keep the fuel-air ratio extremely close to optimum.

VERY impressive. I don't think I ever saw that many side wheelers in one place at one time. Glad to see it though. Certainly made my day.

Wow... I've never seen a steamboat do a handbrake turn before.
Nice to see these magnificent machines in action.

Murray river in southern Australia is home to many paddle steamers . Amazing history of river travel inland into 3 states.

I like how the smoke stacks hinge down to clear the low bridges.

Thank you so much for your compliments. I was often rowing beside them and, therefore, I took my bike and persecuted these ships. I have a music version of this video too. The screen on my cam was a real mirror and could see anything.

Amazing. Is the rational for paddle wheels to have a minimal draft! Dresden is on the bucket list

Not rescue boats but more transport boats to the shores. If the ship would sink you can stay on the upper floors.

they have hidden propellers. You can also turn the direction with the rudder and the paddle wheels which circulating in different directions. The hidden propellers you need for the low water gauge. With a lot of water in the Elbe you need only the rudder and the speed. You have only certain points to turn. You shall not turn at all points on the Elbe.

@@Ynterstella how do you imagine rotating the paddle wheels in different directions? they are connected with the steam engine inbetween. Correct me if im wrong, i once had the opportunity to go in the Krippens engine room.
