- We talk how to create vocal runs using 3-note pentatonic chunks. This simple approach is extremely powerful for improvising vocal runs but also allows for deep creative variation.

If you've ever wondered how to come up with your own vocal runs, the basic idea here is simple. Tons of runs come from the pentatonic scale (1 2 3 5 6). For our purposes, we'll break down the pentatonic scale into a series of 3 note chunks that we can use like melodic building blocks. For creating and singing fast vocal riffs and runs, this approach is extraordinarily effective and describes a staggering number of runs you'll come across.
Within one pentatonic scale, there's only 3 basic types of 3-note pentatonic chunk: step-leap (6 5 3 and 2 1 6), leap-step (1 6 5 and 5 3 2) and step-step (1 2 3). Meaning you can practice these until they're laser-focused and perfect. We go through one of the chunks in the video, then apply it to a melody. In my Vocal Runs Workshop, we go through all of them (and longer chunks as well as other riff pieces) in detail.
After you have the chunks perfected, you can get down to decorating melodies with one, adding a subtle filigree, or adding the chunks together to create longer, more ornate embellishments.
your lessons has really changed my voice

I enjoy the pacing and cadence of your instruction. It leaves space for us to process what you're saying, without moving too slowly or sounding, for lack of a better word, condescending. Thanks for that. :)
I love that your tutorials can be applied to all aspects performing and composing music- singing, guitar, piano, percussion. You rock!
I still remember my Skype lesson with you 2 years ago and to this day i regret none of it. My UA-cam covers are proof of this. You are a true master ,Saher .
My best wishes with you .
I can't express my happiness after getting this video cause l was searching run and riffs insanely but could not find a good one so I was depress but you give me a big relief
Thank yoooooouuuuu!!! I've sang for years and no one has broke it down for me like this.
Thanks so much for this...I learned more in this brief lesson than I have from my vocal coach in 20 years! Will check out your lesson downloads. This is brilliantly laid out instruction...
I respect your experience, you're the best and most accurate person in everything , I enjoy the details in your videos, thank you.
Great video, Saher. I’ve been singing for about ten years and this content is revealing things to me that I’ve never known about. Thank you!
OMG i am just speechless...Thanks.
Your lessons are perfect. No filler, just straight exercise. I love it.
So cool! I would love a part 2 to this! It would also be cool to analyze some runs that are in songs. So cool! Thanks for the education!
2:15 get faster without singing louder or heavier, stay light
4:30 how to apply pentatonic scale practice to a melody in a song
4:40 instead of just ending melody at.... you add some more notes below it/extend it on the pentatonic scale
6:35 think of the one tonic scale as building blocks of melody
You can use them for short riffs like before but also extend, go up and down, go up and down with doubling or tripling up notes and get creative
I love that you visualize what's happening as well. Your voice is beautiful!!!
I've watched a lot of videos, you're the only one that actually helped me figure out how to insert a riff / discover riffs that fit within my melody. Thanks.

I like the underlying notion: even fast, ALL NOTES must sound!
Humor fact: The first descending Leap-Step is "Epona's Song" from Zelda Ocarina of Time!
