I think you misunderstood. From the story you can assume that she was likely a woman far away from deen and occupied herself with beutyfication. After the event, she spent most of her time in ibadah and stopped being extravagant about her beauty. When it was said she became a nun, that is what it probably meant. Ofcourse a practicing muslim should fulfill their spouse's desires.
An idler is one who is idle, meaning that they're either empty, vacant or of no importance or use. One who doesn't spend their time doing something useful... In my opinion, she may have felt her husband couldn't fulfill her full right despite her beauty. Hence she wanted to know if there are others who could neglect her even with her beauty, so her husband recommended Ubayd bn Umayr, that she may gain admonishing from him. However, he didn't expect the impact of the admonishment she received from Ubayd bn Umayr, thus, he said " What is between me and Ubayd bn Umayr is that, my wife used to be like a newly wed but now he's turned her into a nun" "he's turned her into a nun" meaning that she's been in seclusion practicing her religion and seeking ALLAH'S repentance for her actions rather than keeping still as a newly wed as said by her husband.
