    Had some fun with trying to catch a booster, go check the game out, it's worth it! I hope SpaceX won't have to make a video like this...

    UA-cam tagged this as Kerbal Space Program for whatever reason. Well, it's close enough.

      likley because its in the 'how NOT to' category of videos which most of them are in KSP

    This is actually terrifying, thinking of the real thing landing so close to the propellant storage 🥲

      I feel SpaceX will do something similar to SN11 landing attempt if they see the booster isn't going the right way down

    Awesome attempts, would be hilarious if they could do the 'booster avoided the chopsticks' Wonder if they would ever have that much propellant and control.

    • @ILoveDP
      @ILoveDP  Рік тому +1

      I think they would start with a pretty big propellant margin, and decrease it over time. After all, the less propellant is spent on avoiding the chopsticks, the more payload you can get to orbit ;)

      @RippanCSGO Рік тому

      Just like with Falcon 9, they won't aim for the pad/barge until the engines actually lit for the landing & data looks good (this is all done by the onboard computers). This way, in case something is really wrong, the booster won't destroy the tower. Sure, something could for sure go wrong in the last phase of landing as it hovers to be catched, but this will at least lower the change for a "tower destoyer event"

  • @vistabuntuu
    @vistabuntuu Рік тому +3

    Also, it must be noted that the real catch arms are not planned to move up/down the tower during a catch. It's better to think of it less like a "catch" and more like the booster "landing" its little nubs on the arms.

    • @ILoveDP
      @ILoveDP  Рік тому +2

      Yes, you're right. Spacex has some of the best software for landing, it just doesn't quite compare to Starbase Simulator. Although you can adjust settings on the controller, it's a bit too complicated for me 😅. So it's more like a catch in Starbase Simulator because of how much the booster moves during powered descent.

    spaceX should order few more chopsticks. Because they will get completely destroyed in intial few catches.

    Gravity wills this thing to land on its side, why fight it?

  • @warrenjm9
    @warrenjm9 Рік тому

    This is silly. We have seen the control algorithms working on the Falcon 9 booster to land it successfully. Unless SpaceX plans to use the same bellyflop maneuver for the super heavy booster, I would assume they would use the Falcon 9 algorithms and accidents like this wouldn't happen. And SpaceX has the experience with landing over 130 (?) Boosters both on land and on the ocean barge and are rarely off target by more than a meter. Why wouldn't they have modified those landing parameters to the larger booster? As far as landing so close to the fuel tanks, don't you think this has been taken into account?

    • @ILoveDP
      @ILoveDP  Рік тому

      Of course, most of these explosions are due to my skills and Starbase Simulator controls which aren't perfect. I think the first catch attempt will be the first successful catch. This was meant to be a funny video showing what happens when your control isn't as great.

    Cool game and unfortunately too close to reality! I have a feeling that SpaceX will eventually go back to legs even at expense of not carrying heavier loads. You cannot have even a little miss without having a complete catastrophe. Just remember how many times they had to try landing the F9s and SNs till they got it!

    • @ILoveDP
      @ILoveDP  Рік тому +1

      That's why they want to practice water landings first

    • @Jak_Extreme
      @Jak_Extreme Рік тому

      I think it's pretty capable, they have a very good accuracy on landings of boosters. The booster only needs to land between the chopsticks and the chopsticks themselves have actuators to move the booster into the correct position after landing. Of course, I believe we might have a few failure's.

    • @KeepItReal2024
      @KeepItReal2024 Рік тому

      They won't have to go back to legs. This is no different from normal landing zones. Just happens to be an elevated landing zone. (It should have the fuel to almost hover unlike falcon)
      The booster will go to the arms slowly & gradually like F9 does at its zones but much smoother. (Yes ik f9 doesn't look that slow landing, but its going very slow compared to the rest of its mission) Superheavy should be even slower with a larger surface area & higher thrust output. Starship will be the true challenge, the booster should be a cakewalk for SpaceX if we're being real. Starship has to do multiple maneuvers before even thinking about lining up with the chopsticks. ((((I use this term "cakewalk" only because they have experience with F9, i could obviously be *very very* wrong. After all they're trying to land a skyscraper attached to 33 engines)))) Goodluck to the various Teams over at SpaceX can't wait to see these beasts launch & successfully land. 👏 (Sorry to those who struggled to read this mess)

    Waiting for total destruction of launchpad upon landing......I really hope they are finally going to launch those fantasy cigars soon. 100% guaranteed Starship failure... Going to be epic all that moondust once they start sending stuff to the moon again. Wonder how long the new space suits are going to last...(if they send people at all). I predict it will not happen within 10 years from now. Humans on Mars will never happen..
