This is the best DIY retaining wall video on youtube!
This video was excellent, I love Jason's work....his videos are so entertaining and knowledgeable to watch....I want to thank him for his work. Keep it up Jason and the team!
I love how they make the houses and gardens
Very inspirational if your trying to build a wall
Very cool. You make it look so fast, cheap, and easy! I like the cappers you added a lot. The nice size of it makes the garden bed a nice conversation or activity area many people can enjoy as a simple bench.
Jason is my hero!
It would be lovely to enjoy work and life like these folks
come on guys..where are you, i miss yall video :(
big fan!
You, Sir are a Gr8 Landscaper
Great low cost solution!
muy bueno su trabajo 👍me gusta todo loke ase
Great job
Nice, simple and very economical. Used this design on my 4 metre long retaining garden bed using 150mm x 50mm H4 timber, 100mm galvanised screws and with eziflow drainage behind. Best part is you only need to use the one size timber for posts and retainers. In New Zealand I find "sleepers" are quite pricey so the merch grade timber I bought did the trick. 🤘🏾
Clever!
you did a good job, thanks for your video. I have a question, how to do the curve wall?
What would you recommend for a hill garden front and back
when are you uploading more videos I miss them!!!! :)
great work buddy~
Thanks guys! Used this video to build a retaining wall with the bench on top and it looks awesome!
What did you do about water drainage? I want to build the same one and probably smaller than what's on this video
@@mrln04 mine goes across the very back of my garden so the sides are open for drainage as there's a hedge either side
Excellent job
I miss Tara and the gang! More videos of them please! :'D
Hey i wonder if you wait for the cement to get dry or hard before finishing the job? Thnx
Amei!
I rlly wouldn't mind spending £200 for this, totally worth it
How deep are the foundations for the posts and what size screws did you use for this? I have a similar project and I’m debating what to use? What size are your sleepers?
Hi Guys
I am building a retaining wall with 75mm sleepers exactly same type as in video. Please advise what sort of batten screws i need to use ??
or should i use cup head bolts?
thank you
I like your videos😀😀😀😀
Would this technique work if u wanted to go higher than in the video? And just kept adding the timber and fixing it in as u go?
Any indication on how you did the corners would help.
How deep do you bury the verticals and what’s the size of the lumber? Looks like a US 2x12?
Hi, I'm in Japan. I absolutely love your channels. I'm wannabe like him and others. Nowadays I'm into Better home and gardens series!
This is pretty easy to do with basic tools. You can do it
Can you have ends butt up against masonry walls at the ends?
My room needs a makeover
very good
What kind of wood is that and what are their dimensions? Are sleepers the name of the size? And what kind of screws are those?
I also see that he is adding water to the dry cement right in the hole, how do you guarantee the right ratio?
This fun,
Great garden wall! Just wondering if there should be added drainage pipes for water runoff control -- because the yard (especially that corner) seems to be on an angle down to the house? Might just be the camera angle .....
teacatz3 3 years later and still waiting for an answer. :/
Yea definitely could have used some gravel and a drainage pipe running along the inside of the retaining wall. Extra step he probably didn't want to overcomplicate it.
Is there a ratio for post below , post above ground ?
Is the wood 2x8 or 2x10?
More videos please
Where r u guys? Plz come up with new contents
Eagerly waiting
which tree is that and that shrub
We want more videos!
Please... :´(
Would be nice to include the screw size and cement used.
Mfreiher looks like a respectable ‘post mix’ so would set hard with in under 30 minutes or so once the post is in level
What is preventing this wall from bulging out, after time, since you did not include a deadman every few feet? Also, what about drainage? Thank you.
It might bulge. But he has a lot of wide posts, that covers a large horizontal percentage, and if they are cemented well and deep enough, it should be fine for a while. And your right, it does not appear he added drainage, which would add another 20-30 years (or more) to the walls life.
At 3:21 the cap is shown screwed into the post... There is a second screw. What is that screwed into? Not the post? Looks like the rail? Must not be where the rails butt up against each other... thick rails.. No concern for drainage behind wall?
Great job! :)
Any info on what the wood measurements you used? 2x8? 2x10?? thanks
It's depend on your yard u can get better job if sand and stain those sleepers
How did he keep the posts plum in place while the concrete sets?
harrison tafea probably used post mix which typically sets hard within 15 minutes of putting the post into position. Once post is in make up temporary batten angle supports until post is solid
Did u really just dump the powered concrete into the hole then add water? Does that work? How do u know proportions?
It’s ready mix (sometimes called Post Crete or Post Fix). Get it in any big box or hardware store (Lowe’s etc). Just add water and poke it to remove any air pockets and it sets in about 15-30 minutes.
What is the dimension of the lumber used? 3x12? 2x12?
Probably standard 200mm x 50mm x 2.4m.
I’m going to do this exact wall!! What kind of wood is this called?
0:43 "treated pine"
Get ONLY lumber marked Ground Contact. Don't use cheap pressure treated. It won't last.
I would have put the retaining post on the inside . It looks better and it's easier to trimm the grass at the edges
molpolkristine posts need to be on the outside so the ground behind the wall pushes against the post instead of the few screws you use to attach
What Matt said, except you can always put wood on both sides of the posts if you want that cleaner look.
Anyone know the name of those shrubs at 0:27?
Wouldn't the wood rot over time with the water retaining back there as well?
yes, but they are 'H4 CCA Treated Pine Sleepers' so will last anywhere from 10-20 years. Most likely the yard design will change in that time anyway.
Won't the wood rot? How long would you expect this to last?
can it withstand dog urine?
For a short height like that, you could use retaining wall stones, too.
i dont know what part of the world you are from' but were i come from i used elections posters' after an election i take down some and used them at the back they stop dam soil getting at the timber etc and last very very long i use them for all sorts of things
Yes, it's going to rot. No drainage, and even pressure treated is not immune to rot. If you want permanent you're going to have to use stone.
on the dry, this is video is from Australia. Obviously you’re not from Asia as over there they are called “erection posters!”
what is size of the sleepers?
+Stephen Rudl I'm wondering that as well. they look to be full rough and using the carpenters pencil as rough scale, Id guess 2x8 minimum which is something like 50x 203mm.
Hi I The new and a
Probably 200x45 or 200x75.
It’s Standard 2400mm x 50mm h4 sleeper
Don't you need dead men to prevent wall from leaning overtime?
I really enjoy plans from woodprix.
Very good ideas!. Music was harsh and unnecessary, but great video. Thumbs up

I checked a lot of handbooks with woodworking plans. Instructions from woodprix are the best I think.
Why did you stop uploading.
My husband used these plans from woodprix instructions and he's very satisfied. However. I love Yours !
Pleasing wooden work is carried over here. Various Architecturally designed timber product system is beautifully done on the top. Very attractive and unique designing is here.
Great video. If you want more related designs, visit at www.crunchbase.com/organization/intexa-architectural-timber-systems
Old town road with
I made it too very easy. just used woodprix plans and instructions.
Nice video. However you should take instructions from woodprix website if you want to learn how to make it easily.
There's no drainage on this wall and subsequently you're going to experience failures in short order.
I've found great handbook on woodprix website. Good solutions for everyone I think
But the wood will rot and fall apart after a couple of years. Stone is the only way to go, don't do stuff halfway.
I've had lumber marked, "Ground Contact" in my garden for 30 years now with no rot whatsoever. Talk to your lumber yard and don't end up using those cheap posts that claim to be pressure treated. You will lose the whole wall in 5 years or less.
Try to make it with woodprix plans :)
Let's check woodprix handbook if you want to make it cheaper and better.
I would of put the retaining wall the other way round so you didnt see the posts
My thought at first too. I notice other vids showing timber retaining walls also has the posts visible or facing out. Is it better to hide the sleeper's end where they meet, or hide the posts...
if you think about it, the horizontal lumber is being held back by the posts against the movement of the soil. If the timber was on the other side it would be only a matter of time before the soil pushes them and the nails or screws out of the posts. It doesn't look as good but it's way stronger than putting them the other way.
great point. thanks for pointing that out.
One thing you can do is plant in front of your retaining wall to hide it. Ivy such as virginia creeper growing up the walls would be a solution.
You could just put boards on both sides of the posts. Beauty and function.
I'm sure you can find awesome woodworking plans on woodprix website
De
Spam much woodprix ?

Yeah, whatever, let me know how long before those timbers in the ground rot out and leave you with a fucking headache mess. Have fun.
It looks like a Fence to me - Sorry!
