The melody. The harmony. The jangly Byrds-like 12 string guitar. The coming and going power chords. Wow! This is an absolute masterpiece of the shoegaze era and all of pop/rock quite frankly. Absolutely love it!
But it took this later generation to reach this level of old soul-ness. Us boomers (I'm 67) just didn't have this yet. Sometimes I think David Crosby was beginning to "get it". But then he fell into drugs and apart.
Ironically, i don’t think there’s any 12 string on this song. We could go by the guitars they use here (Gretsch and 6 string Ric), and i know they used a few cheap amps and Roland GP-16s for effects.
Rickenbacher guitars tend to split the signal of sound, creating an aural illusion of 12 strings with just 6. It's so crystalline and brilliant. I wanted a Rick ever since I was a toddler- no joke.
Drove past the sign for Sennen last year on way to Lands End. I smiled to myself. Beautiful song. Most underrated band ever! I used to own the Today Forever promo VHS. Still do, but God knows where it is.
Went there on holiday this year. Sennen (Cove) is a really beautiful place. It's basically Land's End without the commercial shit. Only a couple of miles away and still "land's end" anyway). Had food in a pub called First and Last Inn. Really good too. Love this track and always have done.
Eyes aflame, she ran away, I will be where I want to be. Need some space to be alone, Need a place to call my own. Can't stay here another day, Thank awhile, walk away. People wonder where she's gone, All they see's a strange shaped stone. They'll never invade her now.
Indeed they would but these past 2 generations haven’t a clue about music but if they did this would be top of the charts, but it’s way too superior for the charts👌😎
I thought I was a huge RIDE fan. Ive seen them live back in 1991. However, I have never heard these songs. Unreal. One of the greatest bands ever .Even RIDE b-sides lay waste to most bands hits. I hope they play Cleveland, Ohio again.
Cyrus Budd Thanks for the tidbit info. Was always wondering what the title referred to...and what the lyrics were talking about. I remember when the song came out...I looked up the word "Sennen" and the encyclopedia made a reference to some sort of stone? Haha! Anyways the video makes TOTAL sense now thanks...
We were such lucky people to get this band in our lives. Almost every song a gem. Indie kids before Indie meant shite-talking, headline-grabbing Gallagherisms.
I read about Ride in my high school newspaper in 1991. I thought, "cool, I'll check 'em out." Got distracted by 1991 and all the INSANE music that came out that year. Spent the next 3 decades going through that plus all I missed. Finally getting to Ride and it's safe to say they'll be joining R.E.M. as one of my all-time favorites. I missed out on so many years of enjoyment!
I've been following Ride music since I was a teenager. And the "RIDE III" album, recently released, is a fantastic rebirth of "Going Blank Again". So guys, well, well done. You've become yourselves again, with the beautiful noise you create. Thank you.
Eyes aflame, she ran away I will be where I want to be Need some space to be alone Need a place to call my own Can't stay here another day Think awhile, walk away People wonder where she's gone All they see's a strange shaped stone They'll never invade her now
I have genealogical roots in Sennen Cover and spent a couple of weeks there healing after a particularly rough time. I just found this lovely song. Can you tell me if the lyrics have meaning that connects to Sennen? If so, I'm missing them. Even so, I am adding this to my playlist. Just beautiful.
Sennen is a location in Cornwall. One of the most amazing beaches you’ll find. I don’t know where they filmed this video but it wasn’t at Sennen. Great toon though. I prefer Twisterella.

for me this was Ride's peak, a more tempered, cleaner and mellow sound following on from gritty heavy and enticing shoegaze of Nowhere before they embarked on the downward path of Going Blank which opened the way for the whole Britpop ie Oasis rock circus
Loz Colbert's drumming was mind-blowing in the 90s, and Loz Colbert added so much to Ride's sound. He deserves a lot of attention.
best drummer of all time. then reni.
If Bonham and Moon had a child and that child was into hip hop...
His drumming does have a Reni vibe
@@carloberti9637 the stone roses drummer?

Indeed - could be 6-string. I'm no expert - they SOUND like 12-string!

Some bands have many fans.
Some bands have few fans.
And then, some bands have people who absolutely love them. Forever.
some comments have 35 likes
some comments have zero likes
and then, some comments sniff so hard up a butthole they don't know that . Um. Forever.
I know they’re just still soooo good.
makes me cringe....
slam!
True! I will never stop loving this band
A reminder of a simpler, more beautiful time.
James Cameron nope!
James Cameron yes!
James ~ Absolutely!
Any statement said in 2018 compared to 2020 sounds so innocent, anyway, LOVE Ride
I want to be stucked in this song's never-ending loop of drums and guitars
When they sang together that was their BEST!!!!!
one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Of all the amazing songs that this band wrote, I think this has to be my favourite.
Always loved the part at 1:59 when the layered guitar track comes in. Beautiful…
The Today Forever EP was peak RIDE for me.
For SURE
Drove past the sign for Sennen last year on way to Lands End. I smiled to myself. Beautiful song. Most underrated band ever! I used to own the Today Forever promo VHS. Still do, but God knows where it is.
I still have my copy in the attic
I love the Today Forever EP and the fact that they made a promo video for each song that are very close visually. What a special band Ride were.
Probably the best EP ever made.

that "watery" riff is so addictive - long live Ride...

Gotta find me a wormhole back to '92/'93.
Me too.
Shoegazer 93 and many more
Hell yeah.
Same!
Fucking Shoegaze Anthem. This song would hold up if you released it today. Fucking masterpiece! Beyond their years these Boys were.

Brilliant. So glad that they reformed and made 2 good albums.

I have no words to explain how beautiful this song is, amazing piece!
Je n’aurai pas dit mieux. Le meilleur groupe de guitares d’Angleterre et de très loin 🎧🎧
Isn’t it?
Absolute gold !!!! Hard not to feel emotional listening to this no matter how many times i've played it.
We were spoiled for choice with so much great music in the 90s. If only I could go back and relive it all ❤💚🕊️
As a westcoubtry Shoegazer, this song is an absolute anthem!!!!!
YES YES Mate - Badass HOOJ W'C CHOON - A large splosh of the Thames Valley, in Sennen Cove !
Sennen Cove - little surfer's paradise in Cornwall...I just love it there but it will always be remembered because of this beautiful gem...

were these guys actual surfers? Was curious, there is that legit vibe...
I live there, it's a stunning place.
Few bands from this era hold up as well as Ride - TIMELESS - And their new songs are just as great as anything they ever did - Love them SO MUCH

Better late than never! It was easy to get lost in all the music of the early 90s.
REM was great when you couldn't understand Michael's vocals 😊
@@hanskloss1331I totally agree. I.R.S.-era R.E.M. is the best.
My brother bought Today Forever when it came out, just days after it was released. God bless him.

One of their best 5 songs...so simple but so perfect.
More 90 British pop is impossible. I have known this band by Radio Paradise Radio after 2010 decade.
Talking about perfect pop songs: this is one. A rather simple masterpiece with great sounds and flow. 🤘🥰👍
My favorite ever from RIDE
beautiful song ♥ the guitar riff is addictive
I love the song. I love Ride.
Their music brings me so many great memories! It makes me wanna cry. I remember been a little boy in the 90’s and listen to them and loving them

Now this is a true 90's boy band. Kids who could actually played awesome showgaze music.

Graham Hughes could almost fit Twin Peaks
I thought the same! also this makes me really thinks of the movie "picnic at Hanging Rock", if you have never seen it I recommend it :)
I always wondered what the lyrics were!
So many memories listening to this fantastic band. Thankyou guys for making such beautiful music !!!!
I already love their first 2 albums l, now I gotta immerse myself in this EP. This is my favorite Ride song!!
Chills and tinglys up my arms and down my spine and all over my scalp. Thanks Ride.

Listening to this track from the place where Land's end somewhere after Sennen Cove. It is just few miles away from Sennen Cove!

Ride and the nowhere album are quintessential shoegaze pop classics.. somehow manage to always return to this song 🎵
Still the greatest song ever
Ride are the most skilled players of all the shoegaze acts, hell I’d even say music in general. Only a few bands are this tight & locked in.
