After centuries of slumber, in August 2010, Sinabung volcano in Sumatra, Indonesia awoke setting off 12 years of volcanic drama and unleashing some of the best examples of the most fearsome of all eruption phenomena - the pyroclastic flow. I travelled there 3 times to try and catch this elusive phenomenon on video.

A pyroclastic flow is probably the most deadly and destructive force on Earth (if we ignore things from extraterrestrials). They may not kill as many people as other disasters but nothing is standing in their way.
However, such immense force also comes with its beauty and your video shows that. Nice work.

Eerily beautiful but so freaking scary. Would much rather face an incoming hurricane, flood , or tornado than a volcano any day. To me those things have the potential to be mankind killers.Awesome video James. Keep up the amazing content.

I dream before it happens..The thing is I was there in my dream while volcano eruption,...weird dream when i woke up i feel i am running of breath....even Earthquake /plane crash it depends in God what he will show in my dreams bt almost all about nature calamities..Thnx and Godbless..

Imagine Vesuvius or Campi Flegrei unleashing those flows un the Naples area or Popocapetl doing this around Mexico City. These events are the deadliest weapons in the Earth's arsenal of disasters. Volcanologists are very important figures in the field of science for sure. I pray people heed all warnings and stay safe around these stratovolcanoes or lava dome complexes. If magma is silica and gas rich they are able to release these phenomena.
