  • In this episode I show you how to remove the rear hub/ rotor/ axle from a Landcruiser 100/105, the same process can be followed on a 75, 79, 80, 100, 105.
    The IFS 100s "HDJ100 and UZJ100" have a different rear diff setup, so ignore this video!
    Tools required:
    Hammer
    Ratchet set
    Spanner set
    Brass rod
    Flat blade screwdriver
    Jack and Jack stands
    Breaker bar/ Tyre nut remover.
    When removing the cone washers, leave the nut on loosely so the cone washer does not go flying across the room!

    for removing the locking ring, if you don't have a socket, you can use three screwdrivers put two screwdrivers in the screw holes and then a third one in between them for leverage and you can rotate that right out. did not realize the big socket for the front axle would work there tho. pretty smart!
    There should also be a proper gasket at the axle flange, where all that nasty blue goop is. They're about $2 each from the dealer. In my opinion, a fresh Toyota gasket is superior to RTV silicone in this application.

      Hey Mate, Yes I used to use the screwdriver method works great! Also welded up some pins on some flat bar as well. The socket just helps reduce the amount of tool i take out bush.
      Yes I agree, gasket on axle flange over goo is better, but for some reason I forgot to order it and needed the car on the road. Work with what you got right?

    So the wheel bearing came out with the rotor assembly? I’m guessing these don’t have a rear and front bearing like the old Toyota trucks ?

    After a rear wheel bearing replacement, does the nut need to be adjusted for pressure using weight puller ?

    How do you do it? i thought it was a pin inside the diff to take off then the axle comes out?

    For the rear fj60 semi float, is the axle shaft bearing installed on the housing first then the shaft slides in? Sorry I can’t find any semi floating axle shaft bearing install videos or on google.

    • @DanvsCar
      @DanvsCar  4 роки тому

      Sorry I have never worked on the axles on the FJ60.
      But from some online diagrams I see one has a similar setup to this video and the other the bearing is mounted with a bracket then axle.
      So bearing is mounted on the housing first, then axle slides in. To remove the axle, you need to remove the plate behind the diff and pull out the C clip.

    What size bolt do you use to pull the axle shafts?

    • @DanvsCar
      @DanvsCar  6 років тому

      Think its a m8 or m10. Its a very common size, you will have a spare one in you tool box.

    Hey great video but do i need to drain my diff-oil first or doesnt matter?

    • @DanvsCar
      @DanvsCar  5 років тому

      Hello! As long as the axle your working on is higher then the other side no!
      Just needs to be jacked up slightly higher.

      cheers for that quick one mate! did you ever broke an axle on your 105? got one too and there is an strange clunking noise coming from the rear....locker is fitted

    • @DanvsCar
      @DanvsCar  5 років тому

      I personally havent, but have seen it happen a few times.
      If you drain the oil and find metal, you know something is broken!
      Clunking can be a number of things. Not sure if you have a crush or solid pinion spacer put in. If you have a rush then your pinion and crown can be out of line.
      Once you put it up on jacks, move the wheels and see if you can hear where its coming from. (left side, right side or diff centre)
      Could be loose bearings, but the only way to tell is by removing the axle.
      Get in there and get greasy! only way to find out.

    Those bolts you used to take the axle out what size were they?

    • @DanvsCar
      @DanvsCar  4 роки тому

      From memory it was a M8 or M6 leaning more towards M8x1.25, 25mm long.
      I remember it has a 12mm head for socket. Its a common toyota bolt (and garage), should have some spare laying around your collection.

      @@DanvsCar Dan, I am about to tackle the rotors on my HDJ100, I found this helpful but from reading Hugh's comment I am worried I will be going in a little deep. Is there anything I may need to know before I take it apart?

    • @DanvsCar

      To change rotors you need to remove brake caliper and loosen the handbrake. Spin rotor until the adjuster hole on the rotor is all the way at the bottom. Slacken the shoes and remove rotor.
      Im installing new dba t3 rotors on my 105. I can make a video on the prosses.
