I have been using Q-tips in my ears since birth. My mom cleaned my ears with Q-tips. I am 61 years old and have been told by doctors that my ears are the cleanest they have ever seen.
I use them and i have nothing in mine either! I bought a ear camera and i was so shocked because i hear bad things all the time. I think the problem is not chronic use but people who use them wrong!
Or the quality of q-tips used. All q-tips are not made equal - some are rubbish and bend and fall apart with little pressure, but you get what you pay for.
“Basically, because it doesn’t happen to me, then it’s a made up thing that cotton buds are bad for your ears”. Just stop it. Everyone has different ears. Different ear wax types. Mine is very dry and ear wax is easily pushed to the back through cotton bud usage. I don’t have that problem now because I use debrox, but I still also use cotton buds. But it’s not a made up thing. People need to more aware of their only way of cleaning their ears is cotton buds.
You’re supposed to have earwax…it’s to trap bacteria from reaching your deeper ear and causing an infection…that’s why a damp rag to clean the shallow parts of your ear is plenty…🙁
Qtips do work in the ears. IF YOU DO NOT PUSH THEM IN YOUR EAR TOO FAR! I have had multiple ear infections as a child and I have learned that you just need to clean the outside and SLIGHTLY Clean inside of the ear canal. I now have extreme trouble hearing because of 3 ear surgeries, and m ear canal is scarred and my ear drums have ruptured and have been slowly healing.
That looks more like a strip of cotton material had been pushed in, forgotten about and left there for a long, long time. I abet it smelt awful. Another great job 👏
I agree Lesley. It doesn't look like cotton fibres. I wonder if the infection was caused by what he put in his ears or if he filled his ears with something to clear up the infection. Either way this clinic gets some nasty looking ear canals. Yuk 😅
The leathery stuff is old skin. Our ears naturally shed skin and it is supposed to migrate out. Using q-tips they have pushed in and packed it down. There were a few fibers at the beginning but the danger of q-tips isn't the cotton, it is compacting wax and skin.
It looks like 2 shiny eyes looking out of the area before the eardrum. FYI, I just saw ENT & before the heating tests were done they couldn't believe I had a hearing issue because my ears were so clean. I've used Q-tips for over 30yrs & I am 58 now.
I've watched a lot of these kinds of videos, (my favorites are the Wax Whisperer, and Dr. Zhao's cholesteatoma videos,) but I've never seen anything like this. From what I've seen, that is not what impacted ear wax looks like--cotton swab or not. However, some of you mentioned seeing insects in the mess... Would that explain it? The green discoloration and the discharge would make a lot more sense coming from bugs than a q-tip.
, some people naturally produce more earwax than others. This can be due to a variety of factors, including genetics, age, and even the shape of the ear canal. Earwax, or cerumen, serves an important function by trapping dust, debris, and microorganisms, preventing them from reaching the eardrum. However, excessive earwax production can sometimes lead to blockages, discomfort, or even hearing loss if it isn't managed properly. If someone produces a lot of earwax, it’s usually best to avoid using cotton swabs, which can push the wax further into the ear canal. Instead, they might consider using ear drops designed to soften the wax, or consult a healthcare professional for safe removal if it becomes bothersome. Regular ear hygiene and occasional check-ups can help manage excessive earwax production.
Don't use these Cotton buds guys! They can mess up your ears!!! (Former cotton swab user). That looks badly infected. I hope that the patient pays attention and does not use these swabs in their ears anymore. One good thing about these videos is that it can create awareness of how dangerous this can be.
Been using cotton buds for 52 years. Never had any issue even close to that. Ever. I don’t know what I am doing differently than this person, but, well…
There's way more going on here than the use of cotton buds. And they are fine to use as long as you use them properly. Cleaning the outside of your ear and just inside with a scooping motion is fine.
Yeah I thought I saw an angry eye looking out after he uncovered it's dwelling place there in the darkness, its a wonder Ash didn't burst thru with his one arm chainsaw.
I have used those cotton buds all my life am now have never had these issues now hearing loss nor wax build up once wtf do these people do..my parents are 90s they still use them..
I have an otoscope with camera, so i take care of my ears and the kuds'/family's ears. I dont have an ear vacuum, but you dont really have to if you have a tiny spoon.
The type of ear wax you have is genetic. You probably don’t create as much wax as people like the person in video. Or it may have a consistency that adheres to the Q-tip and can be removed. Some people create a lot of thick ear wax and it partially occludes the ear canal. Instead of being removed by the Q-tip, it’s just pushed far the down the canal. Another thing to note is that ear wax is only created by the outer third of the ear canal. It can naturally migrate to the middle third of the ear canal, but it should never be in the third near the drum. Repeated Q-tip use by these people will eventually push wax onto the ear drum, which kinda hinders good hearing. The problem for the person removing the wax is that the Q-tip has left a concave dent in the middle of the wax blockage. This makes it difficult to get a suction probe to grip the blockage. Also, the wax is stuck on the ear drum and practitioners are usually loathe to touch the canal because it hurts like the dickens. It’s also dangerous to use the scoops or picks you may have seen. So, while many people lead full and happy lives cleaning their ears with Q-tips, the audiology folks only see the nightmarish scene we saw in the canal today. 🙂
@@lauren9667never knew it could be genetic that’s really interesting, guess earwax is just like any other condition people have where some don’t experience issues at all and some it impacts their life everyday. I truly can’t imagine having this packed in against my ear drum… has to be super painful for the patient
How can someone go for such a time, knowing this ear is in this shape. I assume somewhere between now and when cotton got stuck, they would be aware of this condition.
I have been using tips for almost 30 years. My ears are squeaky clean. So, I do not buy the theory that they impact wax. I think some people produce more wax than average, or they are prone to fungus or infections. With all 5 of my children and my dog I have used tips, with no issues.
It’s the swab pushing the wax down and packing it. I had that for yrs. Finally dr told me to use sweet oil once a week and wax just literally falls out in shower.
The light brown fibrous/hairy-looking bits are what a cotton bud looks like after it’s mashed down over time and mixed with sweat, oils and earwax. In other videos I’ve seen the shape of the cotton bud look more recognizable, but they always turn that telltale brownish-yellow color. 🤢
No! That can really damage the inside of your ear!!.. it can cause something to rupture, as your ear canal is already an extremely sensitive place on your body…

They are a medical clinic and medical doctors but rarely do they offer anesthesia for ear cleaning. They are very good at not touching anything that would hurt the patient or cause discomfort. If they did you would see the patient jump and the tool removed.
