I’ve noticed that patterns seem to be getting more complicated and instructions overwhelming sometimes. Maybe it’s just my “old” brain but it has discouraged me from picking up my needles again. Peter and Jemima are very cute and your new chicken is huggable indeed. I have looked at the chicken patterns available and they seem to be manageable; now if only my cross stitch would let me go😂. Thanks for another visit to a lovely little village and how the sweets are made minus a big factory. I always try to buy locally and handmade. And I loved the parade of the ducklings❤

I agree, there are some really quite challenging knitting patterns around these days - I'm sure they were more straightforward years ago! At least, that's definitely true about toy making. But I'm glad I persevered with Peter and Jemima.
The emotional support chicken pattern isn't too difficult - it gives lots of practice in doing short rows/ wrap and turn!
It was fascinating watching the sweets being made in the traditional way!

Peter and Jemima are beautiful! Well done. It is remarkable how the designer has made them look so much like the actual illustrations from the book.
I saw your support chicken with Pene and I thought how lovely a gift that was for her. I raise chickens and it was funny the way you had Anna tucked under your arm is how I will sometimes hold my hens. Keep the wings tucked in so they don't flop about.
Candy making is interesting. Funny that you can knead it like bread dough. Thanks for taking us along.
I enjoy hearing about your projects and seeing how they turned out. I may never knit an animal, but I like to see or at least hear how it is done. Besides they are so darn cute.
Have a great week and see you next sunday.🤗

    • @mousiemakespod
      @mousiemakespod  8 місяців тому

Thank you, Karen. The designer is certainly quite a genius to make the Peter Rabbit characters look just like the illustrations!
It does seem just the natural thing to hold the chicken under my arm - and interesting to know that it's the way you sometimes hold your real chickens!
I'm glad you enjoyed watching the sweets being made - it really was quite fascinating to see the sweet "dough" at different stages of the process.
I know what you mean - I enjoy watching other people talking about their crafty projects, often things that I am never likely to make! xx

Morning Helen, an early one for me this morning. How lovely to start with all your tips on Peter Rabbit. As soon as I heard it had been published I bought it and had a read through. Haven't picked it back up. My brain said mmh tricky. My daughters particularly loved Mrs. Tiggywinkle and my intention was to start with her but at the moment she is a future make. No interruptions needed and gathering all the tips before I start! Thanks for all your marvellous thoughts. Emily is thrilled to know she has a sister keeping you company, after all we all need support at times, even if its only whilst reading a pattern through! Thanks for your lovely trip to Beamish. It looks fantastic. Have a lovely week. xx PS Pete watched this week and loved your brother's socks, a man who appreciates socks! Also your playing and Beamish. We want to visit!

I do think the designer Claire Garland is extremely clever but the explanations were not at all easy for me to understand, and I would definitely have appreciated a lot more photographs! With practice, I think I would get used to this rather different construction of knitted animals but I'm not sure if I will make any more of these patterns as they definitely caused me a certain amount of stress... I really appreciated the emotional support of Emily's new sister!!! I'm glad Pete enjoyed watching, too! xx

Morning Helen. Your perseverance paid off. I suppose the many techniques used help to shape and make the figures so realistic. They're much bigger than I was expecting.
I suppose when you compare the patterns of Jean Greenhowe , it just shows how things have moved on.
Thanks for the trip to Beamish. It's definitely a place we want to re visit.
Hope all is well with you. Xx

Hi Angela, you make a very good point there about comparing the complexity of today's toy knitting patterns to those of Jean Greenhow! Things have changed in a way that Jean Greenhow could probably not have imagined!
I was thinking of you when we were at Beamish, as I seemed to remember you telling me that you'd enjoyed your visit there last summer. All well here - I hope you are doing okay, too xx

Yes I too really struggled with this book and like you found it was the making up, I just couldn’t get my head around, funnily enough, wasn’t too bad making Peter, it was Jemima Puddleduck and her wings that I found difficult

I've just bought the Peter Rabbit book and from a quick flick through the patterns I knew that they would be a bit of a pain to knit. Not sure if I want to take on a project that stresses me out but I may try Samuel Whiskers. Claires designs are wonderful but tricky.

The designs are amazing and the characters so similar to Beatrix Potter's illustrations - but I did find the patterns for Peter and Jemima a bit stressful! Peter was worth all the hard work. He is very cute. Knitting garments is far less complicated. We have a museum in my part of Wales called the Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagans where the buildings have been rebuilt on site, but not whole streets. I'd love to see the 1950s village because that's my favourite era. I might have to visit during the summer. Thanks for sharing. Xxx

My great uncle had a popcorn shop where he and my great aunt made not only popcorn and caramel corn, but all sorts of taffy, fudge, and peanut brittle. Everything was handmade (this was the 50s and early 60s). I loved helping wrap the taffy because after it was formed into long ropes of candy, it went through a cutting machine similar to the one making the shapes of the sweets in your video. You turned the crank and out would come perfect little chunks of taffy. My job was to wrap the taffy in waxed paper squares. One of the best parts was that I would get a big scoop of buttered popcorn and set it nearby so I could snack whilst wrapping. It was such fun! I can't wait until you share a video of the 50s town so I can see how different it was back then from my life in the States. 🙂

Thank you Helen as always. Love love love Beamish - was lucky enough to visit several years ago and it was awesome. The cottages, the shops , the vehicles - everything. Have also since then been to Black Country Museum and Blists Hill - also fabulous days out.
Closer to my home is Little Woodham village which transports you back to the 17th century. Not on the scale of any of the aforementioned but still amazing fun and presented with love by the re- enactment team. Must book a visit again soon.

I remember visiting Beamish back in seventies when it first opened , I was at school in a place called Wooler , they had just managed to purchase a school bus ( bright yellow it was ) so I remember going on the first trip out with my friends from school to Beamish , it was a great day out , I think then there was only one main street and the tram it has grown a lot since then , thanks again Helen 😊

Hi Helen, I think they're going to look even more fabulous when they have their clothes than they do now. I either can't remember the stories or didn't read them all. I was into Rupert. However, it doesn't stop me being fascinated by Beatrix Potter or liking her characters, which I do very much. And, like you, I appreciate her illustrations. Everything looks great, as always. Emotional support chickens are so lovely. I love Beamish! I like any living museum. I need to go back as I haven't been since before lockdown. How great to have it on your doorstep. 😊❤

Hello Helen, Peter Rabbit looks great. I’m sorry it seemed so difficult. We craft for fun and a wee challenge is okay but …. Every designer has their own way of explaining things. Can’t wait to see him and Jemima all dressed up :). The museum looked amazing. I hadn’t really grasped the concept when you mentioned it before. What a great idea! A whole village (I think you mentioned there are others?) dedicated to different eras. Watching the sweet making was very interesting. I was thinking - no gloves, no masks as they broke up the sweets - but then no one thought of that way back then. I’m glad you made your own support chicken - Hannah has very beautiful plumage 🤩. Good morning!! I think your Peter and Jemima look perfect!! I’ve just ordered the book , if it’s too hard I will keep it for looking at! My Mouche bear is coming out great, im so excited about him. I have done the frog , I wanted to try the Dot Pebbles tiny mouse next, knitting with the 2.0 mm needles is tiny!! I’m using the Chiapas goo needles , they have good points and the cord has no memory. If I try Peter I’ll have to substitute the yarn as Drops is hard to get here in US , I would never have tried the bear without your motivation so thank you , I thoroughly adore these vlogs!!!!
