part of the reasons these work has a lot to do with the Raptors players being good and smart defenders. Cause a lot of this is the player seeing these on the fly and adjusting.
Ben Simmons is just as he is, just need to fire the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers. 😞😞😞 We say defense wins Championship Ring, right ? I never know the amount of communication you need on defense. You all have to know what each other is going to do depending on who you OR your teammate is defending (is he a shooter or not etc). There is just so much to process when the ball is swinging around and you have to make these decisions in a split second. It's crazy. If just one defender messes up, then it could be a clear open shot or a easy lay up. Love your breakdowns.
I love the Breakdowns thanks Coach! It would be great if you did one on how teams are making defensive adjustments to Houston’s small ball and why after a month of film - teams are understanding how to properly defend it much better.
Great great video!!!! Thank you for this. Nice to see it slowed down and shown what they’re doing on purpose vs what some other teams may not prioritize. Can you do this for Miami as well? I always tell at the tv as they give up open corner threes for some of the best shooters in the game. It’s maddening.
Coach Nurse is the best in NBA history when it comes to adjusting personel and changing strategies before/during the game. That's why last year, after 2-0 they defeated Bucks 4-2.
Definitely subscribing. I really love your content and always learn a lot. Not sure if it was you, but someone did a video where the viewer had to guess where Luca Doncic was going to pass it. This was to show how he sees the floor and recognizes how the play will develop very early and accurately. I'd love to see more of these "you decide" videos. (What should the defender do? What cut do you make?) It feels more like actually playing the game, which I (and I'm sure other weekend warriors) need more than ever right now. Thanks.
@@Chris-yw2zp Giannis and Middleton have improved since last season, while Raps lost some, uh, key pieces. But with a healthy Norm and M. Gasol back, Raps would push the Bucks to the limit. Suggestions: - Maybe a video on the Bucks’ defense? They’re head and shoulders above the rest of the league defensively in defensive rating, and Giannis and Brook are huge reasons why. - Seconding Jokic running offense, like another person suggested. His passing is beautiful and Denver weaponises it with their army of cutters and shooters - KAT + DLo offensive possibilities in Minnesota?? The pick and roll/ pick and pop combos could be insane. We’ll ignore the defense for a sec😂 - AD’s case for DPOY + Lakers potentially playing him at the 5 during the playoffs to maximise his offense? - Philly’s ugly clutter on offense or their excellent defense (forget his jumpshot for a sec, Ben Simmons’s improvement on defense this season is phenomenal) - Christian Wood popping off in Detroit- potential star level big with both shooting and an inside game, PLUS he’s a great defender
What's scary is there core is still young. They somehow transitioned from the Lowry/DeRozan era to the Siakim and Co. era while staying a top team in the conf. Siakim, Og, Powell and vanvleet will hold it down for years to come even if Lowry and Ibaka starts to regress.
Let me start with how much I enjoyed your video. I hope kids sit and focus on how the basics work in team defense. I would like to see you do a series on great defense and how they were applied through time. So today's 3 happy league and what teams do today vs the pick and roll days and how the dynasty Spurs used their roll players like Malik Rose and Tiago Splitter in that system. Then how the 90s defensive teams defended in the iso era. That's a series I'd watch with my kids too.
My 76ers were projected to be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference but were 6th by the time the season was suspended. There's obviously been a lot of noise, but I feel like it'd be interesting to quiet the noise down and see from a game tape coaching perspective why the 76ers had struggled for most of the season.
Do a video breaking down one of your favourite players games with film of how he/she impacts the game on offence and defence, how they find scoring opportunities, etc.
i like the jumping high stuff but it only works when close enough and there are definitely holes in the D as you pointed out and we may see teams beat the D now by using their weaknesses you pointed out if they see this. The only problem I have with high-jumping closeouts is it leaves too much room for good shooters to draw fouls and to get beat on a drive if you get them to bite on a pump fake. Not only that but it also opens up unneccesary opportunities for players to get injured on the landing all to maybe block a shot maybe not block a shot. I'd rather see tight D and better self awareness to not run into screens so you don't need to jump high to block because you'll already be so tight you'll just need to put a hand up. Like, you know when a player sets a screen and unless they move they can't stop you so it should be impossible to get beat on P&R, yet teams somehow do.
Celtics Tatum and Theis on the offensive seal out of the pick and roll. Or just how Tatum has been able to improve lately so quickly and how Stevens is putting him in position to succeed
Love the analysis! Is it possible to do a nature vs nurture NBA video? I'm curious to know how much success can an average talented team has if they have good strategy and coaching.
wish we couldve gotten a chance to repeat this year, but wishing now instead everyone stays home for a bit, stays safe, and we can all get back to it soon!
I think the lockout really help the raptors cause their style of play would exhaust the players tremendously. And this give them plenty of rest going into the playoffs.
I am so fascinated by the raptors defensive scheme, so high school and so basic, yet you will be surprised how fewer pro players actually doing it and doing it well. For an instant, hands out to close the driving gap, it is so basic and yet so effective however you will rarely see them in NBA. Thx Nick Nurse.

Whats amazing is that they don't allow many shots at the rim yet they close out like they have pogo sticks for legs. id credit that to the great shot blocking inside
Can you do a video on the clippers late game offense and what you think they should do more or less of with 3 potential late game ball handlers in Kawhi, Paul George, and Lou Williams
Coach Daniel, you featured the Raptors & Celtics' perimeter shot challenging technique-- differing from a defensive "chop" closeout at about the 4 minute mark. Do you think this is an adaptation to the zeitgeist of abundant perimeter shooting at the highest levels or just a better technique overall for all levels of basketball? What I'm wondering is how the Raptors & Celtics recover from a perimeter pump fake that draws the on ball defender out of the play, allowing the ball carrier an open lane to drive to the hoop. Is this tactic good for all basketball levels? And how do the Raptors & Celtics recover?
That's a good question. I personally think this style of closeouts can and should be done and at least experimented with at high school and college levels. Jumping is seen as bad, but it can really effect the shot. In terms of recovery, it just takes smart defenders to rotate and force the next pass. The Raptors are betting the tradeoff of a few open shots because of their style is worth it to contest and prevent some 3's.
Post a vid about Trae Young’s massive weakness: defense. How can the Hawks help Trae in pick in rolls? Can he be your guy on a winning team? Keep up the vids I learn so much lmao 👍👍👍
I read it in this article by Ben Falk, who worked in the NBA for several years: cleaningtheglass.com/do-the-bucks-stop-here/ To be honest, it was my first time seeing the term too, I don't think it's common, but it's definitely a thing.

This was a really great video. Coach Daniel videos are getting better and better
I appreciate it thank you. I think the text at the bottom while clips are playing and the circles I can now use without pausing makes a difference
My school team plays just like this. Seems everyone in Canada does.
cirque de soliei faxxx
Yo why is that so trueeee
Thanks.
I believe Toronto is the best team in the East. They are so deep and talented and their chemistry is unrivaled. Let's hope the season picks up soon!
It was so awesome of a competitive season too 😩
They are so evenly matched with Milwaukee. Should be an exciting series if the world doesn’t end first
@@Chris-yw2zp Giannis and Middleton have improved since last season, while Raps lost some, uh, key pieces. But with a healthy Norm and M. Gasol back, Raps would push the Bucks to the limit. It could be a great series,. By all rights, the Bucks should win it. But I believe Nurse is a better coach than Bud, which could make the difference. Hope we get a chance to see. This was setting up to be a fascinating playoffs in the East and the West.
@@aquamarine99911 Norman Powell when heatly is a better scorer then Middleton and they basically have the same shooting percentages but norman is more athletic and can attack the rim which Middleton doesn't do. If they stop giannis like they usually do it shouldn't be a problem to make it out of the East🤷🏽♂️ The key is always stopping the number 1 option
@@Realsteppa.0 Norman Powell is not a better scorer than Middleton. Are you crazy?
Suggestions:
- Maybe a video on the Bucks’ defense? They’re head and shoulders above the rest of the league defensively in defensive rating, and Giannis and Brook are huge reasons why.
- Seconding Jokic running offense, like another person suggested. His passing is beautiful and Denver weaponises it with their army of cutters and shooters
- KAT + DLo offensive possibilities in Minnesota?? The pick and roll/ pick and pop combos could be insane. We’ll ignore the defense for a sec😂
- AD’s case for DPOY + Lakers potentially playing him at the 5 during the playoffs to maximise his offense?
- Philly’s ugly clutter on offense or their excellent defense (forget his jumpshot for a sec, Ben Simmons’s improvement on defense this season is phenomenal)
- Christian Wood popping off in Detroit- potential star level big with both shooting and an inside game, PLUS he’s a great defender
Principles of zone defense are perfectly applied
What a fantastic analysis, as always. Thanks coach Daniel, Great to see quality basketball content now the season is delayed/cancelled.
Watching this is great and sad at the same time!! I miss watching basketball 😭😭😔😔. I hate coronavirus!!!😡😡🤨
This is the most fun defense I've seen in a long time.
Raptors are going back to back💪
Suggestion: a video covering various different types of pick & roll formations (and then list out pros & cons).
Very good content!
Love these videos the breakdowns are awesome
The new role of jrue holiday in Nola could be interesting :)
Great stuff coach!
Great video Coach Daniel. Thank You for the informative video. Video suggestion why are NBA teams running a lot of zones.
It's a copycat league and nick nurse is responsible for this
didn’t even cover their weird zone too haha
the box & 1 and the triangle & 2 defense is genius 👌
This is such a great video. Awesome breakdown coach
Great vid...now do one on the Raptors offence with, and without Kawaiii, and a comparison, then one on Nurses style, and approach.
TY
Great vid! Listening to this in depth is awesome, I was just wondering how they had one of the top defences
this strategy requires so much energy
I really appreciate your videos I use them frequently with my 14u
Watching in 2021 remembering when their defence was good🥲
Do a video breaking down one of your favourite players games with film of how he/she impacts the game on offence and defence, how they find scoring opportunities, etc.
Type of zone kinda
As I was watching this, nick nurse was named COY!! Yeah boi
Coach! Please do a video on the Bulls Dynasty's Offense! Kinda want to see some old school basketball breakdowns
I’d love to see a remake of this video now
I wonder could do a video like this about a team from the past and maybe compare it to how it has changed today
Best basketball schemes analysis channel on UA-cam
i like the jumping high stuff but it only works when close enough and there are definitely holes in the D as you pointed out and we may see teams beat the D now by using their weaknesses you pointed out if they see this.
Check out my video earlier in the year on the Celtics, I breakdown that Tatum Theis combo
Love the analysis! Is it possible to do a nature vs nurture NBA video? I'm curious to know how much success can an average talented team has if they have good strategy and coaching.
Can’t believe Kawhi skipped at a chance of a Dynasty.
Also this was a sexy ass breakdown
wish we couldve gotten a chance to repeat this year, but wishing now instead everyone stays home for a bit, stays safe, and we can all get back to it soon!
Great breakdown!
*do a breakdown on the bucks, Celtics, another raptors vid, Talk about underrated players in the NBA, Show some Motion offenses teams run, Talk about why different coaches or players didn't work out in the NBA, Do interactive challenge vids with different players, just talk about what you've seen from the season so far like what u liked and disliked*
Also if u have a mac u should download hudl sports code it is free and will speed up ur vids a lot just type in basketball sports code and u should find one it will help u find clips faster and u can even put in a certain player and it will analyze the player give u info and a few example clips just thought I would recommend cuz I know it must take a while to make these videos and this might help a little
Love the video! Maybe you could give greater focus on how well the Raptors do closeouts.... there is certainly an art to it.
do a video explaining the holes of the knicks offense
Whats amazing is that they don't allow many shots at the rim yet they close out like they have pogo sticks for legs. id credit that to the great shot blocking inside
Spurs fan here, I luv that defensive style waaaaay better than pops !!!!
More quiz video's! And maybe not only do a breakdown on present NBA teams, but maybe also on NBA teams from the past
Do videos on what teams can do to stop some of the concepts you have previously talked about
Can u do a vid on jump shooting vs set shooting
Siakam is easily First or Second team All defence this season, love this team
Can you do a video on the clippers late game offense and what you think they should do more or less of with 3 potential late game ball handlers in Kawhi, Paul George, and Lou Williams
Please please please go over the triangle Offense in depth!!!
I have! If you search "triangle offense coach daniel" you'll find several videos.
Most of this is old school defence. Naturally, you need the proper personnel, IQ and discipline but it's still mostly old school at its core.
can you do a video of winning plays?
Can you make a video explaining how important spacing is?
please break down the bucks defense and their closeout strategy
Post a vid about Trae Young’s massive weakness: defense. How can the Hawks help Trae in pick in rolls? Can he be your guy on a winning team? Keep up the vids I learn so much lmao 👍👍👍
I have never heard such term like weakside i, where dud you get it from, coach Daniel?
I read it in this article by Ben Falk, who worked in the NBA for several years: cleaningtheglass.com/do-the-bucks-stop-here/
To be honest, it was my first time seeing the term too, I don't think it's common, but it's definitely a thing.
@@coachdaniel8163 awesome! Thank you!
can you analyze the bucks defense
Could you do a break down on the bulls Championship teams defense or the bad boys pistons , or could you even possibly do the 06 Celtics defense please and thanks for making great content.
i'd love to see breakdowns like this of some of your favorite teams from the past. why were the 04 pistons so good on defense, how did the nash suns revolutionize the nba other than just playing fast, what's this Adelman corner offense I keep hearing about? Maybe even tracking a great playoff series and the strategies and counters that went into it!
Do a analysis of what trail blazers r doing and what's wrong with them apart from their injuries and what should they run to get into that playoff spot that matches their personnel
can you do videos on the raptors losses, and what went wrong?
