yes, when he was stripping the door down i was wondering what part of the original door was going to be reused as every bit of it looked rotten. I thought he was going for a Trigger's Broom type restoration.
Have you seen the price of timber on this side of the Pond these days? I'm recycling 150 year old roof timbers, as the occasional damaged table saw blade & planer blades are less of an outlay than new timber, plus the old stuff is tight grained, old growth & about as stable & seasoned as you can get.
Who else found this hard to watch? This is crazy. It’s all rotten infested wood. Simply take down all dimensions and make a new one. It’ll look better, last longer, and save all of that needless repairing.
I mean, I get it. I have done repairs that probably would have been better just been complete rebuilds. If you've got the skills, the tools, and the inclination, sometimes it can just be about the joy of the process rather than efficiency.
Absolutamente de acuerdo con su opinión. Llega a dar rabia ver reparaciones de cosas insalvables que ya han cumplido su función y hay que reemplazarlas en su totalidad.

That's a tremendous amount of turd-polishing to save a few sticks of old pine tongue-and-groove. I would have tossed it in the fire and started over with the old metal hardware.
Great work, i like all the effort and detail you put into it. Problem is, that D3 glue is water proof but not weather proof. So it can withstand water for a short period but if the wood is exposed to rain on a regular basis and the water seeps into a crack in the paint, the glue will come apart. Same problem with the already glued up boards you put on the rotted ends. That glue will not withstand weather if it's wood made for furniture. You need D4 glue or epoxy if you want it to last another 30 years. I understand the point of keeping as much as possible but in this case, everything is covered in paint anyway. So making all new wooden pieces and keeping the metal hardware would have been the best restoration as it would have restored the looks and the original durability. But still a joy to watch. 😊
