He didn't want want to say the word that rhymes with, shh..."lagina'. Why a medication being inserted into the medical term of a body part in a completely non-sexual way is considered too taboo to him, but talking about bleeding out is of no consequence, is weird. Female bodies are weirdly taboo to way too many people.

@@andromedaspark2241OMG you freaking nailed it! This is a huge part of why we are where we are right now: people not understanding the human body, the female reproductive system, and how it all functions. It's not a mystery, it's not a joke, it's not shameful or taboo, yet the entire country (or at least vast swaths of it) suddenly turn into middle school boys when it comes to frank, open, clear, scientific conversations about how bodies work! Then you throw insane right wing fundamentalist extremism into the mix and voila! - women dying and bleeding out in their damned bathrooms when an abortion would've prevented all that.

It's happening a lot in Texas. That's what the big class action lawsuit is about. They're like five or six women in the case who had very similar stories. At least one almost died from sepsis.
They're not even suing to get the law changed. They're literally just suing for clarification of the law. Because women who have miscarriages are being forced to go into septic shock because hospitals are too scared to intervene medically until they're like visibly noticeably sick.
It's because Texas in particular incentivize citizens to report doctors. Like you can sue them for I think it's $10,000 if you suspect they did an "illegal" abortion.
That's why it's so bad in Texas in particular. They're literally weaponizing citizens like it's 1984.

With some exceptions. Like, say, ensuring that the physician actually went to med school (hence the licensing), as well as that they're up to date on anything that's changed since med school (hence the continuing education requirements of said licensing). Oh, and they would probably also ensure safety of drugs that can be prescribed, as, for an extreme example, I'm betting that cyanide and hemlock could likely produce a miscarriage as well as the safer, FDA approved meds... they'd come with some very very serious side effects and an absurdly high risk of death though. Also, ensuring that the medications actually contain the ingredients that claim to contain. There's probably more tangential stuff that I'm forgetting, but you get the general idea.
But yeah, beyond those basic safety things, agreed.

Crazy!! 25 years ago I had an ectopic pregnancy. The doctor said he thought I should wait and see if the embryo moved into the correct place. Being young and uninformed, I actually thought that could happen. I should have immediately been admitted to the hospital and had it removed. Instead a week later it ruptured (without me knowing) and hours later I was taken to the emergency room almost unconscious. The hospital had to perform emergency surgery. I almost died. Listening to this man's story breaks my heart. He and his wife were already suffering because of the loss of the pregnancy. Now he was about to lose the life of his wife and his 9month old child's mother. This is ridiculous. This has nothing to do with religious beliefs. This has to do with proper care for women. If someone is not in a position to have a child, the government can only increase the likelihood they won't be in that position. Access to contraception, rights for women with their body, etc. I don't anticipate ever needing an abortion because personally, I do believe life begins at conception, but I'm also practical enough to know just because my faith suggests that doesn't mean that's equivalent to being a citizen with an issued birth certificate and social security number. Let's just be practical here. And God forbid I am in a position where I do need one for my health or the babies or whatever - I'll be DAMNED if the government tells me what I can or can't do with my body.

@@missmustache4207 The abortion bans without an exemption for the health of a mother or for instances where the fetus is already dead are not ambiguous, because they clearly lay out the punishments that can be visited upon medical providers if they provide abortion care BEFORE the mother's death is eminent. If those same laws couldn't be bothered to state that abortions can be given when doing so would not affect the fetus chance of survival (because it was already dead or doomed), than it is probably because lawmakers would like the option to hit back at abortion providers who act in these situations where the mother's health is at risk, and the hospital lawyers see no reason to to believe those lawmakers when they say "just trust us, we would never sue you for conducting an abortion on an already dead fetus just because the mom is still healthy". Because those same lawmakers also said "we would never seek to punish a mother for miscarrying" then in OH a woman who miscarried at home after being turned away from the hospital 3 times got charged with "mishandling a corpse" when she showed up at the ER near death after miscarrying at home in her toilet and having to plunge out the toilet so it would work again and bury the bloody mess in her backyard when she could barely walk from loss of blood. The forced birth people who wrote these abortion bans have no sympathy for pregnant women with complications or for the medical providers who want to give them the care they desperately need, because they have spent years demonizing them as "baby killers" and they are not going to stop now that they have their abortion bans in place.

If the abortion laws weren’t in place I would have died, leaving my 3 small children and husband without me. This is a logical consequence of letting ignorant lawmakers interfere in medicine. They don’t know what they’re doing and the penalties are so severe that no hospital or doctor will risk losing their liberty or license to practice. It’s a predictable travesty. I wish I could speak to this couple so badly right now... I went through the exact same thing in 2003 except I had been to 5 different emergency rooms over the course of a couple weeks and turned away 4 out of those 5 visits. I had the same internal ultrasounds and exams while not only bleeding profusely but also being in extreme pain. I was told the exact same thing every time, "it will pass on it's own". I was a newlywed and my husband was active duty military. I was on week 3-4 of hemorrhaging and I was starting to pass out so we decided to drive just over an hour with one last ditch effort try. We were both crying as we walked through the doors, he was holding me up and I began to pass out so we were quickly ushered into a room and again, given the same exams except this time with a semi-answered solution. Being that we were military they had to send me to the local naval hospital and it was by appointment first thing the next morning. We got there and they took me into the exam room performing those invasive exams yet AGAIN but this time, right in the middle of it they began prepping me for an emergency d&c stating that I was going to "bleed out" and possibly go "septic" from the fetus being retained for so long. I am so sorry you are having to experience this. I suggest if you are able to, take her out of state to the nearest trauma receiving hospital. I feel your pain and sorrow deeply and wish there was something I could do more than just offer up this piece of mutual suffering and hopefully some good advice that will work. 🙏

And if the hospital treats women BEFORE they are at death's door in a state with an abortion ban with no exception for anything but saving the life of the mother, the hospital can then be bankrupted and put out of business by lawsuits for violating the abortion ban, because the woman was not dying yet. And then their region the hospital serves has no hospital, and the whole area will suffer and die from lack of prompt care, not just the pregnant women. This is not how the hospitals want to be serving pregnant women, they are forced into it by bad legislation. Stop blaming the hospitals and doctors, and alter the legislation to have some sensible exceptions that reflect reality!

@@enjoywarmwinters I agree, the moment a woman is showing no fetal heartbeat after having been pregnant, she should be diagnosed as having miscarried, and should be helped to empty her womb in the hospital to preserve her health and fertility, but the abortion ban as written would jeopardize the existence of hospitals if they did that. So the law needs to be changed so it doesn't make doctors and hospitals have to choose between offering the best standard of care for pregnant patients and staying in business. It would have been easy to do by adding a few common sense exemptions that the doctors said were needed, but the legislators preferred to be "purists" and to demonize women and the medical establishment instead and to try to punish them. Now they blame them for acting defensively, when it is they who failed to show a whit of sympathy for miscarrying pregnant women when they wrote the laws. The situation is not going to change for the better in the forced birth states until they change their laws, because the lawmakers have created an existential crisis for medical providers where they can not do what is best for women and be assured of continuing to practice medicine.

The hospitals don't have the legal ability to do a D&C procedure until the woman is at deaths door, because the abortion ban has no exception for saving the health of a woman, nor for when a fetus is already dead, only for saving the life of a woman. That means unless the woman is actively in danger of dying, the hospital is not safe to conduct any abortion procedures; they could get sued for violating the ban and bankrupted, and then all of their patients would be suffering from lack of medical care, not just the pregnant women. If you want hospitals to act to save women when there is the first signs of an incomplete miscarriage or a life-threatening complication like an ectopic pregancy, get the legislators to add exemptions to their legislation for saving the health of women, not just their lives, or at least for situations in which the fetus can not be saved and born alive no matter what the doctors do.

The way they wrote the law "administrative penalties include the mandatory revocation of a medical, nursing, or pharmacy license. The statute also allows the Texas attorney general to seek a civil penalty of not less than $100,000, plus attorney’s fees and costs." They guaranteed that doctors would not do this out of fear that they would be aiding and abetting an abortion. And the TX Supreme Court just said they aren't going to make any changes to the law and that it's plenty clear. Long story short, it is unsafe for a woman to be pregnant in TX. If anything goes wrong, which happens all of the time in pregnancies, your wife, girlfriend, mom or sister has fewer options than if she was in a sane state.

I volunteered at two Womens clinics in Pensacola, FL years ago when I lived there. Doctors had to be flown in once a week on procedure day. The clinics had to have bulletproof windows, one of the clinics had been bombed before and rebuilt. Off duty Police Officers had to work security and a doctor at each clinis still got unalived, also an escort and another escort shot. There were disgusting protesters yelling inaccurate information, holding inaccurate posters and saying horrible things to the patents. They also filmed them. They also told me, an escort I better have on my bulletproof vest multiple times, that my family hated me for "allowing" me to help protect the patients from those crazies. They followed me home and to work. I was around 21 and worked at the mall. They would come into my store just to glare at me and give me dirty looks or stand outside my store and do it. At one of the clinics we were offered bulletproof vests, at both clinics we had to wear construction like vests that said "clinic escort" on them. So many of the patients were afraid to walk from their car thru the protesters. It was so upsetting. The parking lots were not attached to the buildings. Escorts were not supposed to leave the clinic but I always did. The police even told me it was not a good idea. I always brought an umbrella to try to shield the patients and tried to comfort them. I also told them if they wanted to hear what the protesters wanted to say they could. Only one did. It was truly terrible how these self righteous, Christians treated people! The patients were not going in for a procedure for fun. A lot of them were married couples, girlfriends and boyfriends not the "type" of person the Republicans paint them out to be. They all had made a very hard decision.

Because the abortion bans in most forced birth states do not make any exceptions for already dead fetuses or for the health of a mother, only for the life of the mother. In practice this means that a hospital can't risk acting until the pregnant woman is at death's door, even if her fetus has been dead for days. If you don't like the outcomes of these laws then the laws need to be changed. There are also no exceptions for rape or incest in most of these abortion bans.

This woman has suffered needlessly. This is a crime by our government against women. She is lucky to be alive and I pray that she will be able to have another child.

The ER is the worst place for a mother. They seem to have no understanding of how to treat pregnancy conditions and they threaten our lives with this medical negligence. I suffered from a life threatening pregnancy condition that worsened after birth. I fainted and had seizures and was sent home from the hospital even thought the condition was all over my medical records. I too was sent home multiple times from the ER. The father talking about putting his wife on the toilet and dressing her while unconscious was exactly what my husband did for more when I had a seizure in the shower a second time. The physical and mental effects will stay with me forever because they played with my life for too many hours.

1 in 5 emergent medical cases is pregnancy only exacerbated with elimination of free standing reproductive healthcare clinics and criminalization of Obstetrics services with many physicians moving to more practice friendly states creating Obstetrics services deserts....and even less healthcare in quantity and quality for all.

My grandmother worked for a doctor's clinic for years. Since before she was a mom even and has worked for a women's clinic for just as many years. She is the strongest woman I have ever Strongest met. Her tales of at home/back alley abortions, mental health crisis and even hearing and finding her boss, who was a doctor, had un alived himself. Those were my bed time and family stories. She and I cried when Roe v. Wade was overturned. She has seen and I was well educated in the worst possible outcomes. My own cousin who was trying for a baby, chose to abort her 1st child because that baby had serious health issues that would only lead to suffering.
Not all babies who are aborted are unwanted. Many are simply loved enough to ease their suffering.
