The paradox of Garland always made me appreciate him a lot as an absurdist figure in the series. It's often stated that the FC games had simple narratives, but the ending of FFI is as complex as a 1987 game gets!! You also see the Flying Fortress dungeon, which gives a futuristic contrast to the rest of the setting. FFII is my favourite of the FC trilogy, I love the narratives of existentialism and redemption of the Rebels, and characters like Leila and Leonheart. The Emperor and Hilda are magnificent Amano designs, and Firion is my favourite design for a FF protagonist ever. I'd never considered the atrophysical and cosmological aspect of the series, so the ideas, theories and thoughts exposed in the second half make me want to replay the whole series with this in mind. Although other RPG series resonate more deeply with me, it's very hard to argue that the Final Fantasy series isn't made by the most talented people in the videogame industry. Thank you for the wonderful video, and for the food for thought!!
Thank you for this video. This little channel does a really good job. However, I'm surprised to rarely see FF14 mentioned here ? Despite being a MMORPG, its a real Final Fantasy, with a lot of content, allusions to all the other FFs, and a very impressive story, which you might like and allow you to make even more content on this channel
Excellent approach of using final bosses to review theme. Now I can't decide which FF title I like the most... Dark souls, another Japanese game, depicts the theme of nothingness and survival interestingly too (nothing but gray trees until unexplained heat and cold starts) but with less use of outer space and more traditional fantasy instead (castles, knights, everlasting dragons).
I just realized how much Kingdom Hearts takes from Final Fantasy 3 for themes of the 'Universe.' KH3 even introduced hope with dark light and nothingness.
Idk how i ended up on this channel but i like your profile pic xenogears is my favorite rpg i got it for christmas the year it came out. I played so many rpgs after but none compare. Saga frontier for ps1 is a close second.
@@JapaneseGames007 will do I have a cool video idea for you I have long suspected that xenogears began life as a Gundam fighters rpg. The plot points are so close barring the world tournament narrative it all fits.
@JapaneseGames007 I think my comment got deleted but video idea compare Gundam fighters anime or manga to xenogears you will be very surprised what you find.
Sorry, there were some abusive comments in my previous videos, so I've been making comments approval-based since then😭 I love Gundam so much that I've even traced the "History of the Universal Century." Xenogears was influenced by Gundam, but I think the story is based on Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey." I explain that as well in my video.
@@JapaneseGames007 The latest iteration of Gundam at the time Takahashi and Soraya came up with ideas for Xenogears was Mobile Fighter G Gundam which ran on Japanese television between April 1994 and March 1995, and was the first Gundam series to feature robots performing martial art style combat and have a plot based around a mech tournament, similar to a lot of elements in Xenogears. The main character is also trained in eastern martial arts, pilots a mech called the "God Gundam" that can enter a "Super Mode" based on his feelings, and the plot involves an out-of-control "Devil Gundam" that can restore itself (and self-evolve) and has determined to eradicate human beings, similar to Deus in Xenogears. Another similarity with Deus is the final evolution of the Devil Gundam in the last episodes along with its absorption of the protagonist's main love interest whom he must rescue from its core. It is highly likely that this served as an inspiration. That's from an old interview I would post the link if I could.

Your videos deserve so many more views! Always so interesting and well researched! Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks❤️ I would like to talk about various games in the future, including games other than Final Fantasy.
I’m glad you included some of the direct Japanese text. Necron in particular says a lot more in Japanese. Fascinating.
Necron's lines were quite interesting, so we've presented them here uncut.
ff8 has such deep lore its a shame S.E ignore the game and refuse to acknowledge its existence anymore
Very interesting, didn't see a lot of these connections until today
I have never seen anyone else propose such a hypothesis(Haha)

As you say, rather than being set in space itself, I think the story is more of a space theme, incorporated into a fantasy.
I just realized how much Kingdom Hearts takes from Final Fantasy 3 for themes of the 'Universe.' KH3 even introduced hope with dark light and nothingness.
I can't believe Necron was nicknamed Pepsiman by fans in Japan 😂
This is a famous story among Japanese FF fans😭😭😭

Like you, Xenogears is my favorite too ❤️
