I can absolutely respect not wanting to just become an all Ren reaction channel, but when you do eventually get back to him you will find that there really isn't a genre of music he can't do.
And then you'll discover his band and busking, and you get to be amazed all over again :)

He does a lot of manual remixing and balancing between the audio sources post processing.
He has 'room mikes' as well as his lapel mike for vox and the miked up guitar.
He really likes to play with ambient acoustics - but isn't afraid to really push the mixing to create weird effects too, including extremely strong auto-tune like effects in some tracks.
So while his style is 'one take, live' the result is clearly seldom that - even for his busking videos, he post processes them to some degree. There is a live performance for an audience of the Tales, which gives a clearer indication of the 'source' material he works with - it is good, but not as polished as the output from his mixing desk.
To quote from 'Losing It' - and when I mix it, pour some juice in it. It's so prolific, it's that boujee shit...

Ren isn't just a singular rabbit hole. It is a labyrinth.. Ren's music will imtroduce you to numerous other amazingly talented artists like Chinchilla, Sam Tompkins. Romain Axisas, Eden Nash, The Big Push, Viktus and others. Then, Ren's music covers so many different genres. His catalog is large and at every two weeks your progress will be slow moving. Plus. he is putting out a bunch of new music alll the time. I think once a week is a better pacing. But, I'm being greedy and it is your channel 😊
    Thx for a great reaction!

at 16 minutes in you ask about guitar sound...in interviews I've seen he says he has a direct input recording device strapped to him to capture the guitar, then he very intricately mixes miniscule sections volumes or whatnot...he's crazy detailed in his production of his songs especially the live performance videos

Both the Ren songs you have reacted too are one shot videos. In fact Ren is kind of famous for that. Try Money Gsmes. All three in order with the middle one being the lyric video. The last will blow your mind.

    • @SilkySOSU
      @SilkySOSU 5 місяців тому +1

@@LeeannG true but the boom mic alone isn't enough for Ren to be able to produce the end result, without having the guitar on its own source which Ren has spoken about in interviews...I was only addressing the way the guitar in those environments is able to sound so "clean". He also typically has a Lav mic on his body during these type of recordings and is able to tweak the heck out of each source to get the awesome sounding end result.

@@karenlittle8041 I completely concur with your suggestion for $$$Game's and would like to toss out the idea for Hz (sorry I'm blanking on your name right now) to do all three of them in a row in one reaction...its drastically different than the Tales, you just have to go through each one individually (and like Karen said, make sure the second is the lyric and not the shorter live version, which is definitely worth watching but I would recommend after getting through them all, and you could just do on your own time cause it is pretty short). Karen is spot on with her thoughts of part 3...especially if you have any interest in videography things and the one shot format difficulty and whatnot, MG part three is a masterpiece one take (technically it is a two take if you look into it...one cut towards the end Ren has mentioned himself) and there is also a fairly lengthy (2+ hours I think) video available that shows the preparation and behind the scenes stuff so you can witness the magic of Ren.
On a side note, there is also a live performance available of the Tales filmed with a 360 degree camera where while watching the video, you are able to actually change the camera perspective live during the playback...I've never seen anybody react to that video whilst playing around with the camera but that could be a cool thing to check out Hz.
Just throwing ideas out there :).

Nobody has really stepped up to fill the void left by the greats in music. But Ren is up at the plate. If no record label asshole puts a leash and collar on him and he stays true to himself and his own vision… he has every opportunity to stand among the best there has ever been. He raps, he makes his own beats, he sings, writes his own lyrics, plays multiple instruments brilliantly. He can rock out or chill out and do reggae. The writing and storytelling is next frigging level. Ren has Shakespearean levels of talent. Not to mention, he’s an exceptional human being with kindness and wisdom beyond his years. Amazing young man.

They had to do Screeches tale a more than once. someone yelled at them. lol This whole series was based on a newspaper article he had read. It was about 18 months from Jenny's to Violet. I remember waiting for them. All of Rens video's like this are live and 1 takes. They may have to do them over a few times. But they are live and 1 take. Oh shit is the normal response. He does have alot of happier songs, some rap, some more on the music side. And when he does, the colabs and with his busking, 2 bands are fun. A lot of his colabs and band members have gone of and have been doing well. Remember he is independent. And there are stories behind that also.

It’s quite interesting that when decided to start taking music seriously around the age of 12/13, he had no intention of becoming an artist, he wanted to become a producer so that’s what he focused on. As a result his production / mixing skills will stand up with anyones. Throw in a bit of ADHD and he’s so obsessive about it that by the time he’s finished producing one of his tracks, he’s sick of it. It’s when he releases it and gets feed back from the public and reactors that it comes back to life for him and he can appreciate them again.

If I remember right, part 1 video/recording live took almost 100 takes over 3 days to finally get the end result, and it may have been closer to 200 attempts over those days to get it...MG 1 was his first "big" one take attempt I think, and it took them a lot to work out the details to do it properly, plus weather and other kinds of interruptions like those pesky humans coming around and screwing it up when they were attempting to film it "guerrilla style" in some garage. Part two as mentioned by others is a lyric video unlike any you have seen before, not just your typical "coolish font" type lyrics scrolling or whatever on the screen...there is a purpose behind every line and visual, just like all of Rens videos or lyric videos (Seven Sins is a masterpiece Lyric video compared to MG3 as a masterpiece one/two shot video)

I don’t know if anyone answered your question about how his recording his guitar live. The answer is, he has it plugged in to a ZOOM recorder that he has hidden under his clothes. He drops the track into his DAW with the vocals from his lav mic and mixes the volume from there. The reverbs are mostly natural. He usually finds locations with good acoustics and goes from there. He’s pretty honest about using a lot of EQ and compressors to get it to sound as good as possible, but he feels like the performance should be live for authenticity sake. Not to say he doesn’t have great studio tracks. Dude is actually a pretty awesome producer as well. lol, you haven’t even seen him play piano yet!

He and Ren did some busking and writing and singing together. Also Chinchilla and Ren are amazing. Chinchilla and Sam both have their own music and doing well. Also Ren and Prof just put out Pain Salesmen - really cool. He also had a band called The big Push with Romain Axisa, an amazing human & Gorran Kendall, so cool. Tom the drummer isn’t around doing music rt now but he’s in the big push as the drummer. Thanks for doing this bc it sheds light on an illness like Rens, mine, others that suffer but his music spans across many genres

Ren is a genius, a fantastic performer, singer, actor, songwriter, composer, etc, etc he can do it all...
These 3 videos and the other you saw "Hi Ren" are all live and 1 take! Like many other videos he has... the sound is so good because Ren is a perfectionist and he spends countless ours in his studio editing very second of sound to try to minimize volume fluctuations, sounds of the environment from getting into the video, etc... The places where he films are very specific, he also spends a LOT of time looking for these spots and then all the moves have a purpose, how he times to arrive at the stairwell in time for the echo in the last song, or when he arrives at the door to knock on it, etc... he's extremely professional, he and Sam, the videographer... they are a crew of friends that do some of the best work I've seen and on a budget!
These 3 videos are filled with so many small tidbits that you might have missed by seeing this for the first time:
    - the way he uses his words and sets the scene for example when he could've simply say that Screeched stabbed Jenny he did it in a much more poetic way (and continues to do it in other instances in the songs, like when the Police is coming for Screech "the shrill cry of justice like a Banshee in the night"), just the same when jenny froze he says it in a fantastic manner that sets a scene in your head...
The way he used the Guitar to knock on the door in Screech's tale, the frantic camera going around him while he stood still to show the state of mind Screech was in, how he used the phone in the middle of the song with pauses and all to wait for the call to connect... how he said the police were coming instead of just saying "the police are coming" is truly amazing, and how he said that Screech was going against the police without saying just the obvious words... how he alternates between characters and narrator both in voice and acting (see how at the end of the call to the girlfriend he's panting, gasping for air as Screech and in the next second he's completely composed when he becomes the Narrator again, he even gets his posture to be more upright)... how he uses the guitar to fire the shots and the cameraman getting shot and falling to the floor... an amazing storyteller.
    - The way he tells that history repeats itself on Violet's tale, from being abused by her father to the cycle repeating with her boyfriend that ends up killing her... the way he knocks on the door and then shows how he picks her eyelids and opens them and he's right there face first on the camera, out of focus... how he again uses the guitar to simbolize the sounds of violence when Stevie hits Violet, like a crashing pilot!
    - The way he rewinds time at the start of Violet's Tale when he says "We must rewind time for Violet's Tale" and then he makes the rewind time sound with the guitar and then starts Violet's story... then after Violet gets beaten up he uses the guitar again, this time to un-rewind time and gets us back to the start of the song when you heard the sounds of the hospital machines, now we know why those sounds were there and how everything happened... it's pure genius!!!
    - Also, it's inevitable to draw parallels between Jenny and Violet and Screech and Stevie (his father) and the grandfather... despite not knowing any of their relatives, Jenny was just like her mother, Violet was silent, didn't fight back when she was abused and ended up being killed... Jenny when confronted by Screech completely froze, like a statue, wasn't able to move, to say anything, to defend herself, just like her mother...
Screech was violent and troubled and ended up a murderer just like his father...
    All very tragic!!
    - To tie it all up, the Tales from Jenny and Screech were recorded in 2019 and Violet's Tale is, because of that set in 2005 (two zero zero five), 14 years before because in Jenny's tale we are told that Screech was 14 years old!
    Cheers
