As a nurse the excessive water intake one makes me so mad because a nurse actually called that radio station and told them how dangerous it was but the station kept the contest going anyway 😡
In 1919, a huge storage tank filled with 2.3 Million gallons of molasses burst in Boston. 21 people died on the streets as a result of the subsequent flood.
The woman who died from drinking water drank about 2 gallons (or 7 liters) in around 3 hours. Healthy kidneys can process roughly 1 liter an hour, so it's not really the amount she drank rather than the short time she drank it that made it deadly. To add to this, part of the contest was you weren't allowed to use the bathroom.
The one I always think of is Luis Jiménez, sculptor & creator of the famous Blue Mustang (Blucifer) statue at the Denver International Airport. While in his studio a piece of the statue fell & crushed him.
The guy in teh Zorb ball, you can find the video online. He ends up rolling down a massive mountain. You don't see him die per say as he falls off. But its crazy how quickly that ball lost control. I kinda blame the others with him for thinking it was a good idea to use the ball on a mountain top.
I listened to a podcast with a guy that cleans up death scenes and he said the number one cod he seen was first thing in the morning no. 2’s. He said at least walk around for a minute make some coffee instead of going straight to the toilet. Im not a doctor but it’s got something to do with blood circulation.
The funniest Darwin Award for me were two brothers arrested for dealing crack cocaine. Before they were put into handcuff one of them hid the crack up butt. Since they knew they've be searched more carefully at the police station as they were handcuffed in the back of the police car one brother ate the crack right out of his brother's butt and it killed him. There have also been cases where drug smugglers claimed they weren't smuggling drugs and offered to eat or drink the evidence to prove it. The cops let them and they died. Police are no prohibited from letting this happen.
I've gone without sleep for 50 plus hours before. 72 hours with 2 hours of sleep. Soldiers regularly do it in times of conflict, for me it was illness combined with insomnia.
9:14 There's footage of a funeral in India where the deceased's son and his friends were mishandling the coffin at the funeral and crushed the son to death.
I've stayed awake for 72 hours many, Many times because I'm an insomniac. It SUCKS. Folks just don't understand how awful it is to literally be incapable of falling asleep. There are very few people I would wish it on.
That gambling one was crazy. I've been up for 30+ hours a few times, but that's not usually by choice,. I'm actually being a productive member of society, not gambling. That recovery is pretty long. Wow.
Embarrisingly I have gotten a moderate concussion when several soup cans fell on my head. I am rather clumsy, so I've gotten several ridiculous injuries.
the guy whose python killed their neighbor probably just had his snake removed from their possession and/or euthanized. those deaths by marathons of gaming or gambling almost certainly involved heavy doses of amphetamines causing them not to feel hungry or thirsty or tired.
When I started playing Quake 2 back in April 1998 I got highly addicted to the game and an average playtime for me was 3 straight days(I ate and drank though). I'd play for a good 3 straight days and sleep for about 6 hours and do it over again. This was my routine for a good decade. A lot of times I'd go for 4, 5, 6, 7 straight days without sleep. The longest was a little over 8 days. I LOVED me some Quake 2, played it for 18 1/2 years(April 1998 until September 2016).
Hah. There is at least one fake one. Udo Jürgens did not die by Schnitzel in 1974, he died by heart attack in 2014. I did not play a game for 3 days and died - I developed a level for a game over 76 hours without sleep and just did not die.
Some people and their deaths aren't worthy of respect at all if people are completely honest. 72 hours awake isn't that big of a deal. It's the not eating or drinking properly part that causes the biggest issues. Hell I did 70 awake last week.

I remember when that happened and I remember the nurse warning them.

I was going to mention the Boston Molasses Flood, but you beat me to it! Great minds!!! 😸
Ah, but nothing beats the episode of the Mary Tyler Moore Show when Chuckles the Clown dressed up as Peter Peanut and got "Shelled" by an elephant.

And it was all for a Wii as well.

Lion King : it was a stampede of Wildebeests.

Sounds like mostly Darwin Award candidates. The world works itself out.

Dang, England had a lot of odd deaths on this list.
Kabir, you've posted 13 reactions today. Did you get a vitamin B shot?
Udo Jurgens did not die by choking on a Wiener Schnitzel. What a load of nonsense.
I stayed awake for longer than 72 hours when I was in college. I would never repeat this feat; it was a terrible experience.
I've stayed up for 3/4 days and sleep a little between not sleeping

Most of the people that died from the beer flood died from overdrinking polluted beer.
Death by duct tape? Don’t forget it was Florida. Anything is possible.
Somehow I doubt that any of them cared if it was an embarrassing way to die .
The guy who died in elephant poop had to have a closed-coffin funeral, because the morticians just couldn't remove his severe stinkface expression.
Somehow 2 40yo men died over the 4th by lighting fireworks of their own heads.
13,591 KIA Russian soldiers in May, processed in Rostov On Don military hospital! Just last month!
72 hours is nothing. Meth addicts stay up for weeks
