The UFC doesn’t need Conor, but you’d be a fool to think they’d ever stop wanting him. Like it or not, no one may even come close to reaching the pull that Conor was able to achieve from the mainstream environment.
Ain't that some shit? Guy that never once defended a title may end up being the most successful fighter in history, monetarily.

The ufc is not losing money on Conor lol.
Lol yea they wouldn't do all they do for him to fight, if they were losing money on dealing with him.
I know, I think I seen one dispshit say that on instagram and I think it snow balled.lord have mercy on us all

ahahahahahaha nice
Conor’s stardom isn’t infinite. Conor became a star not just of the trash talking or antics outside of the cage. It was ALL that and the fact he was winning and the fashion he was winning. People don’t just want Conor back just for the sake of being back, they want to see him win. If he comes back and extends his losing streak he is no longer the commodity he use to be.
You make a good point, but it's not 100%.
Conor is a brand that's just as large if not larger than the UFC, let alone his record. The only people that care if he wins or not are the true fight fans. Conor has several investments in various businesses from apparel to pubs. People will go see a Conor fight just based off of - "hey isn't that the ufc guy!? I didn't know he owned this place!" - popularity alone.
If you want context, the last time Nate Diaz won a fight Moses was parting the red sea. But Nate always put asses in seats anyway and Conor is exceedingly larger than Nate.
He made his 600 million off of selling proper number 12.
As all the celebrities do that with their special alcohol , wanting it to be bought out by a larger existing name brand by millions of dollars.
no one cares if he comes back. Fighters have gotten so much better since he was in his prime. He would be average at best if he came back.
Apart from that farce with Cerrone he hasn't beaten a legitimate opponent since 2016. This is the fight business and at some point you need to do more than flap your mouth if you want actual fight fans to take you seriously.
Completely agree, I’d just say that he’s already not the commodity he used to be. I live in Dubai and he was out getting drunk only the other night. Guy’s just not serious about his career anymore and hasn’t been for years.
Funny how suga says this right after sterling revealed the ppv between the two of them was lack luster😂
Proof positive that bantamweight cannot sell no matter what..... I don't like it but it's true
1- BMF was never defended because of a few reasons. #1 PPV POINTS for being a “champ”. #2 the belt holder lost to the champ. Having him defend it would devalue the champion, and have him be the “lineal BMF” and you have to pay him as such. #3 it adds value to a big name “star” ie masvidal or diaz. in hopes of having them be bigger draws.
#2 ceremonial weigh ins are the UFCs last chance to parade the fighters around before the fights and get those valueable “pre purchases”. Same as the press conference.
#3 regulation is simple to me. You run towards it to legitimize your sport, and get it legalized everywhere. Everywhere = choosing locations = taxes.
Thanks
Regulation also allows for legalized sports betting.
Very well said thanks 👏
Decent effort that, though you could submit all up with two words - Proper Promotion
well done well done. seems pretty accurate to me, but i know nothing
The UFC doesn't need Conor. The UFC does need Conor to be on their payroll. If Conor was fighting for another organization, it would take alot of eyes off the ufc and on that other organization. The ufc needs Conor under exclusive contract but they don't need him to fight. It's probably better for the ufc if Conor doesn't fight. If Conor continues to fight and lose, his star will not shine as bright.
he is just a bonus thats it. they need multiple stars rather then one
Exactly 👍
😂
Tbh Conor has become a little non existent he is still relevant but he’s definitely not needed he got his stardom from his talent and becoming the first double champ. but if it wasn’t for Floyd he wouldn’t have the popularity he has now.

If I was a ufc manager I would require myself and my fighters to watch Uncle Chael’s videos
Conor is the headliner of 8 of the top 10 selling ppv's of all time. The other 2 are ufc 100 and Usman vs Masvidal 1. I'm sure they've made plenty off him.
Chael was telling me something here he isnt telling you. You all saw it. But it got to me, on my phone in my hand to my ears. From a thing called You-Tube. It was in English. I translated that to Portuguese, back to English. He said "Sugar Sean said a really interesting thing"
He's just ... shar-ING for YOU
Conor can make the ufc more money in one fight than sean omalley can in his whole career
You do realize that "making money" = revenue minus expenses right? Conor can sell, but he also demands a huge purse. Does the incremental revenue from having Conor headline a PPV today (not years ago) exceed the incremental cost of paying what he demands today? And considering the cost in UFC's reputational damage if today's past-prime Conor performs horribly after UFC markets his event to paying fans? Too many fans don't understand the business.
It may take some closer inspection at the exclusive PPV rights deal that Dana cut with ESPN…. I suspected it cut that deal contained a retainer and a gain share, which means a revenue split of some sort.
Conor is the only fighter to have eclipsed the brand, but there's always going to be newly emerging talent. The UFC is a revolving door and a fighter's shelf life is short. They can't be entirely reliant on any given name to carry the company when all it takes is one bad night to usher in retirement.
Nah, no fighter is bigger than the brand , another L for Conor and his value is 0 , so , is waiting for Nate, no other than Nate. That's a fact
The UFC is signing multi year billion dollar TV deals.
Conor can't do that. He can remake road House though. Can't wait 😂

Nothing more would make me smile than to see Connor in the ring again win or lose but to see him win again will be legendary!
I think they do need him as the sport is struggling to find a true superstar. But they don’t want him in the sense he represents individual power. If he continues to be number 1 + generates most money he will represent how others want to be paid and eventually where the sports pay structure will ultimately go. You see this in music where the record companies love the artists up until it’s near end of a contract. The ufc despite what fans keep trying to argue are struggling on ppv sales there are no million ppv sale guys on the roster no one is close. For ufc 300 they have nothing that would be considered big. There are no matchups that you can look at and say that’s going to sell a lot. Sean O’Malley + Izzy were the potential but they aren’t near that level. Ufc loved Kabib why? Because he was a draw like Nate Diaz and he wasn’t a threat to the pay structure. Conor is by far the only person that can be face of UFC but if they have to do business it represents UFC’s worst nightmare. They don’t want fighters to get 30-40% of shares. Conor’s success would represent that. It’s inevitable that ufc will spilt revenue like nba, nfl, mlb. Ufc or Dana want that to be after he is out. Conor success only means that split is inching closer.
Sean O' "I lease my wife out" wouldn't know anything about making profits for the UFC
but that's exciting to think about

I think UFC fans could gain a lot from learning a little bit about how professional wrestling books matches and draws heat. A lot of people don’t want to admit it but they’re essentially the same in a lot of ways.
As for the 3 questions at the end: There’s no real money in defending a BMF belt, the main draw there is the winner take all aspect. Reminds me of a match in pro wrestling where the draw is that both use the same finisher, it only works once.
The weigh ins are ufcs version of the promos and minor conflicts you see in wrestling. Essentially there to build suspense, give fans things to speculate over and sell the fight one last time if the fighters can make people believe they really dislike each other.
Regulation makes things easier to control. Having more control allows for more consistent returns on investment and generally more opportunity
Cheal the lineal BMF holder is Leon
The loss of money would be after the event, btw, no they’re not losing any money today.
The loss is only after the fight and no one is saying it’s a loss for sure, but maybe the profit ain’t worth it.
Won’t be like before.
A good card makes UFC (X) millions dollars after expenses.
A Conor card only makes a little more, now, present day, present economy, Conor not winning for 5 years, but pay alone he cost them an extra 10 million maybe more.
We’ll never know all the details because they’re secretive about it.
If we can find out the range of net profit after a PPV event, and how much Conor gets show/win, we could figure it out.
With calf kicks becoming a dominant strategy in the ufc ...we need Chael or a collaboration with Dominick Cruz on how to stifle or stop this attack...what is the next evolution of the sport?
Tito tapped
I might know the answer to these three questions but it's a bit too easy. I think Chael knows something most of us don't. If you know better please chime in.
1) Why does MMA run toward regulation rather than from it?
- MMA was banned and had a poor reputation for being "cockfighting". Being a friend to the athletic commission is the only way a promotion can hold fights. Also, someone with a lot of political power did not like the Fertittas because they would not unionize their casinos.
2) Why is there a ceremonial weigh in?
- Gives fighters more time to recover from dehydration
3) Why was the BMF belt never defended?
- It's a gimmicky belt. No need to defend a belt that is unofficial.
Even if they broke even on a particular event with conor, which they obviously dont, it would bring casual fans back and they may buy the next ppv or find new fighters to cheer

Hey uncle chael I know it’s been years ago but what did you think about conor vs Jose the build up and the fight when it happen
What is cordes regulations 😮
The BMF belt was just a prop to make a “championship fight” and a main event out of a mid card fight. Both times
The weigh in is to create tension and suspense between the opponents
the more closely things are regulated the harder it will be to take away from the legitimacy of the sport and the UFC as the foremost name in MMA
second comment, your unlike any other chael. no one else is posting video after video unless there after money but you do it to get your word and content out for us
The UFC doesn't need Sean Omalley
For sure ... at this stage the UFC doesn't actually need any one specific guy. Conor propelled the UFC to where it is now, and all they have to do is just maintain, and they can do that with a revolving door of a roster as long as the cards just maintain the standard a majority of the time. Jones was shelved for years and they kept on moving, Francis dipped and they didn't skip a beat, Izzy is in hiatus and they're still doing just fine, etc etc ... there's always a guy who gets the spotlight when the previous guy falls off. Pereira came out of nowhere, Islam picked up where Khabib left off, etc

What does Chael mean when he says PPV is not a thing anymore, and the model changed when they moved to digital?.... I never really got this. You can still buy PPV´s.... 80$ a pop...as far as I know fighters can still get PPV cuts... so how is PPV not a thing anymore?
Chael the BMF belt can be the most elusive belt because someone has to move up or down to get it

1. Why was the BMF Belt never defended? - One-sided fight, poor ratings.
2. Why is there a ceremonial weigh-in? - Good Ratings, weigh-ins always sell out.
3. Why seek regulation (for MMA) as opposed to running from it? - To get on TV (AKA ratings.)
If enough people will watch it, Dana will provide it.

Who’s got the link for O’Malley comments
Nobody:
Uncle Chael: WITT-HOUT
Hey Chael, will you give me a job if I guess those 3 things?
1. Maybe UFC don’t need Connor to have an opponent. He promotes the brand regardless, and if he doesn’t fight you don’t have to pay him OR his opponent. Why give Chandler his biggest payday when he’s not bringing the eyeballs?
2. A ceremonial way in is for media hype and the opportunity to compare the athletes body from depletion to optimal condition. You can assess the commodities more accurately pre-fight, create storyline’s and pull betting action.
3. You run towards regulation because regulation creates distinctions. Fans want to be able to feel a sense of predictability in the media they consume. Rules make things predictable.
So why wasn’t the BMF belt defended? Maybe there’s some catch with paying the belt holder that doesn’t apply when two guys fight for a vacant belt. Either you are paying too much to the guy with the belt, or the challenger will demand too much.
Maybe you set the precedent of not defending the belt so-again- you can draw distinctions between a BMF/Intrem/Undisputed belt for marketing reasons.
You say you read all the comments Chael. Can I have a job in the industry now?
I just had a thought. What if Conor negotiated too good of a contract, and when he fights, he brings in huge business, but his take is so much larger than other fighters that it makes way more sense for someone like Periera to fight. I think about that some times, I wonder if they have a chart that says how much they have to pay each fighter and they take that into consideration when making them world champion or main event/how often they fight. It feels like Conor is a little more of a prestige fighter now.
Bring out the red panties
Now your starting to understand the ufc and there strategies and think tank.
He's got one win since 2016 so it's not like they have to pay him win bonuses 😆
@@kidneystonermusicNot a win bonus, but a huge chunk of the PPV buys and likely a chunk of the gate as well. They also probably have to pay more for security. That’s just off the top of my head.

I wonder if there tying to freezer Connor out to get him so to Renegotiate for a smaller pay day. I wanna see Connor fight but I’d like to see him in a 3 round fight.
The answer to those questions is legitimacy. To be the premium organisation you have to be the most legitimate and making fights simply because they make money for the organisation takes away some of that. You have to prove to the world that you have the best fighters and the best fights on the planet to be number 1. The BMF belt was never defended because its essentially means nothing UNLESS some of the best fighters give the belt legitimacy themselves, which they have not really done with most of the people calling for it are coming off the back of losses. Also how can you have a “BMF” who fights once a year or once every two years? - who of which are often the most touted candidates for these fights.
Also when it happens that bigger stars are in for the gimmick fights over the actual title fights it is not a good look.
Hes important for brand growth. Everytime his name is mentioned it gets views and we all come running to watch it.
Doesn't translate to money in the UFC's pocket though. They profit when he fights, something Conor does once every leap year.
The UFC doesn't want to let Connor get close
Is not about what the ufc needs or wants. It's about what the fans want... people love the build up of the rivary he brings the promotion the press conference the shit talk the energy he brings the fight itself. That's what matters!
He still would sell massive numbers just based on his name. But the longer it goes on and he loses, the more people will lose interest.
He only has 2 fights left on his deal. His next one we know will be massive due to the injury comeback and people a waiting to see if he’s washed or got a lil juice left. Depending on if he wins or loses will affect if people will care anymore after that.
yeap, I know ppl who started watching UFC in 2020 cause of the pandemic and they really don't get why Conor is such a big deal.
@@lilsler Yeah. Truth is he just doesn't have the motivation anymore, especially with his lifestyle now. I think he's just having trouble letting go to be honest, he misses that feeling of winning and he loves fighting, but the motivation just isn't the same as he has everything now.
If this is the case, which I don’t believe it at all, then the UFC is in “dereliction of duty”. Because if they want to hold his contract, aka-the rights to him being allowed to make money on fights-then they owe him offers for fights. So if you can’t live up to your end, Mr. UFC, the contract is void. Also-EVEN IF they were losing money on his specific card, they would still be the ones to blame. You should be budgeting for this, since-for some reason-you’re losing money on a giant star but you still want to own the rights to him fighting??? What sense does that make?? None. You can’t prevent somebody from making a living if you and they signed a contract to offer said person work. Not how contracts work.
I would prefer to see Conor vs Masvidal, they are both in the same stage of their careers
Correct.
Nate Diaz vs Dustin
McGregor vs Chandler
Holloway vs Justin
THE BMF title never held real value aside from names that held it, winning it proves nothing and brings nothing to the fighters tables. it is to legitimize your toughness, which is hard because if you fight and win but still lowkey get your ass kicked you've lost the belt completely.
as someone else said before me here, the weigh ins are like a last calling, to sqeese the last bit of toothpaste out, the last bit of money from fans and people and to remind them of the fight as well.
i didn't catch the last question
Or Connor vs Mike Perry bkf would be crazy
Uncie Chae's obsession with the BMF belt is bewildering. He knows the UFC does gimmick shit all the time yet treats the BMF (Baddest mother fucker) belt like a real thing? Well 1 reason would be they can't even explain what the acronym stands for.. UFC is a public company now, they want to make the UFC "family friendly" not go back to the "blood sport" it was known as 20 years ago. FORGET ABOUT THE BMF BELT UNCIE CHAE
Hey whoever has the answer to the three questions, let me know.
1. BMF belt
2. Ceremonial weigh in
3. Regulation
For 1, it must have something to do w/ PPV points since champs are eligible for that, right?
Face offs generate a lot of views, drama, and interest. Plus the real weigh ins could be hard to watch as a casual considering how scrawny they look at peak weight cut
Regulation is interesting I think it's a long-game move of maintaining legitimacy as well as perhaps the longevity of fighters. Also might make the network deals better with these Disney/ESPN presidents and all that
@@ryanburke901 I agree. I also wonder if there’s some regulatory thing going on w/ them
@@ryanburke901 the network deals is a great point!

Does anybody know the answers to the 3 questions?
1) BMF was never defended because title defenses give the champion PPV points.
2) No idea.
3) You run toward regulation because it gives you an opportunity to shape the rules.
The bmf championship isn’t defended because champions get a portion of ppv sales, hence it was never going to be anything more than a gimmick.
We forcing fiercely adhere to the rules we make up on the spot
