No there won’t be but both my mum and Dad (RN) fought for this country and my Grandfather & uncles in the WW1 and we shouldn’t go down without a fight, make the young ones remember what it cost in young lives to keep the freedoms they fought so hard for. It should be made mandatory at all schools to educate on it.

    The Day of Valour
In Normandy's embrace, where waves did roar,
Brave souls from lands afar, to freedom swore.
With courage fierce and hearts steadfast and true,
They stormed the shores, the world anew.
From England's green to Canada's wild crest,
To America's vast, all did their best.
From France's heart and Russia's endless plains,
Their blood and tears fell like the rains.
O valour bright, in darkest hours displayed,
Their unity, in sacrifice, was laid.
They stood as one, against the tyrant's might,
In hope, their dawn dispelled the night.
Yet hark, a voice from shadows past does rise,
A veteran’s plea beneath the sombre skies:
"Peace must reign, for war’s dread path we trod,
If conflict reigns, humanity is flawed.
Remember us, who gave our youth and lives,
    So future generations might survive.
In every heart, let peace and love take root,
Lest war again shall bear its bitter fruit.
For should we fail to honour those who fell,
And choose instead to heed war's siren knell,
With weapons forged in hellfire’s grim design,
No honour for the fallen shall we find.
This world of ours, in ashes, would descend,
A silent testament to mankind’s end.
Thus let their legacy be wisdom's guide,
In every land, let peace and hope abide.
For D-Day’s heroes, may we honour keep,
And guard the world where they now sleep.

    MEN OF ENGLAND
    Men of England, who inherit
Rights that cost your sires their blood,
Men whose undegenerate spirit (through faith in Christ),
Has been proved on field and flood
By the foes you've fought uncounted,
By the glorious deeds ye've done,
    Trophies captured, breaches mounted,
    Navies conquered, kingdoms won,
    Yet remember, England gathers
Thence but fruitless wreaths of fame,
If the FREEDOMS of your fathers (vouchsafed by the Blood of the Lamb),
Glow not in your hearts the same.
    What are monuments of bravery
    Where no public virtues bloom?
What avail in lands of slavery
    Trophied temples, arch and tomb?
    Let the world revere us
For our people's rights and laws
And the breasts of civic heroes
    Bared in freedom's holy cause.
    Yours are Hampden's, Russell's, glory;
    Sidney's matchless shade is yours;
    Martyrs in heroic story,
    Worth a hundred Agincourts.
We're the sons of sires that baffled
    Crowned and mitred tyranny;
They defied the field and scaffold
For their BIRTHRIGHTS. SO WILL WE
    Thomas Campbell
So, Bring me my bow of burning gold
Bring me my arrows of desire
Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!
I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
    'Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land
    William Blake

Reference is made to contemporary war in Europe, 1:35. But in 1945 Russia was our ally while the Ukranian nationalists were fighting in common with the Nazi against our ally and ethnically cleansing Poles. Casualties at Normandy would have been much greater if German resources had not been diverted to the Eastern Front and been pinned down there in anticipation of the Russians' Operation Bagration.

A war in which we fought on behalf of a vicious, murderous dictatorship (Poland) to stop a different vicious, murderous dictatorship (Germany) from taking control of a League of Nations administered ethnically German city which wasn't even part of Poland and allied ourselves with yet another vicious, murderous dictatorship, the worst of all (Soviet Union). The outcome being we lost hundreds of thousands dead, bankrupted ourselves and lost our empire, in fact, our empire has now colonised us. A totally unnecessary and stupid war.

“ ….in the shadow of such political instability in Europe …”
Well said, Andy Davies, even though this time two presidents can’t face each other in Normandy.
    Putin not invited.
Perhaps yet another missed opportunity for diplomacy, peace and reconciliation between the White House and the Kremlin.
Less well- known is the much larger Operation Bagration which was the biggest Soviet offensive
of the war. Two weeks after D-Day, the German Army Group Centre on the Eastern Front was destroyed by the Red Army.
JFK’s sober words of wisdom at American University, Washington, D.C., June 10, 1963:
“ And no nation in the history of battle ever suffered more than the Soviet Union suffered in the course of the Second World War. At least 20 million lost their lives. Countless millions of homes and farms were burned or sacked. A third of the nation’s territory, including nearly two thirds of its industrial base, was turned into a wasteland- a loss equivalent to the devastation of this country east of Chicago “.
