@@radiozelazaWhat are you talking about?
Leo nailed it, right outta the gate… I have an original 53. It sounds perfect for just about any genre of music…
Yep! Mine is a '51 and I used it for Sex Pistols covers!
Dusty is always the first person I think of with the original Precision Basses so I was definitely happy to see him on
He also had a Telecaster custom bass which was the same design overall but with cool binding.
Funny thing is, Dusty never referred to himself as a bassist, but as “low guitar”.
Keith Ferguson of Fabulous Thunderbirds played 51 P basses exclusively. He's left handed so he played them upside down.
Great player.
Checked out The Meters because of this short. Very cool
Yessir! I was stoked Porter got mentioned.
Check out "It aint no use" on the Rejuvenation album
@@HD-TechWhile you’re at it, check out Widespread Panic covering “It Ain’t No Use”.
They kill it! They’ve also brought GPJ up on stage with them to jam!
Saw George open for P-Funk last year.
RIP Dusty
James Jamerson and Duck Dunn had more influence on music, particularly in unforgettable P Bass infused Soul and R&B bass lines, than all the cats you mention combined! Not only were their styles original, but they set the electric bass bar in the 60s that many followed, and are still trying to emulate today. Not the least of which was the bass player from arguably the greatest musical group ever recorded, Mr. Paul McCartney.
Original style is referring to the single coil pbass pickup, not the split coil that Jamerson and Duck Dunn played!
Talking about first gen P bass players!!!!
Ding dong.
Always cool to see Bill Black mentioned!
Sting never played fretted P in Police. It was J on the first record, and then fretless P, fretless Ibanez, Steinberger and what not. He only went P around 1990
He did live.
@@DanYule55 show me a photo of Sting playing a fretted Fender Precision bass in The Police live (not in a video or from a studio). Maybe my memory is failing me, but I have not seen any such photo

I met Mike Dirnt recently at a restaurant/lounge gig of mine. Very nice cat very down to earth just a gear junkie like the rest of us and we talked about his love of the OG precisions. Maybe not everyones top-five, but definitely honorable mention as his signature model is increasing availability of this timeless design.
(Edit) I incorrectly assumed his bass came with the stock 51 pick up didn’t realize it was the later split pick up. Still a very nice guy
Bill Black is the forgotten hero of the electric base. The promotional video for jailhouse rock featured him playing a fender bass, which was the first time that an electric bass, rather than an upright, had been showcased on television. Not only was he a monster player, but he really was the first guy to popularize the electric bass in popular music. Interestingly enough, his solo project, the Bill black combo, opened for the Beatles at Shea Stadium. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make the gig because of the brain cancer that would eventually take his life.
Day 4 of asking for how to get Krist Novoselic bass tone
this
hell yeah
Thank your legend for commenting krist for the win
Yes
Definitely a must!
WHERE WAS JAMERSON!!!
He didn’t play an original style P bass
Jameson's first Precision was a 1957.
de do do do de da da da is such a masterpiece
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting George Porter Jr a couple times, killing bassist, great guy
Love the look, especially scuffed up ones
it's so weird thinking of the P as this brand new space age technology but it must have seemed like that when it came out
The PERFECT bass sound..
At that time, Sting played jazz basses and Ibanez too.
I know this is random, but I get such a kick out of your emphasis on BEHS! 😂😂😂😂😂
John Paul Jones has played an early ‘50’s P-Bass, on and off, alongside his many other custom basses!
Saw them twice in '69: he played a Jazz bass both times.
Stormed the round stage in Framingham after the 2nd encore: shook hands with him!
Please do stings bass tone
in Police or Sting solo? two different tones
@@radiozelaza um the police then
J Jamerson?
The video is about the original style (read 51) P Bass players.
George Porter Jr. if you want to have Bass Driven riffs locking in with the drummer, can't go wrong.
Funny how Bill Black almost didn’t end up being an electric player. When Elvis first insisted he play one (on the session for “You’re So Square”) he slammed it down in a huff because he wasn’t used to the frets.
And Elvis famously took it over and played it. Bill got frustrated by the introduction but Elvis pulled it off.
I recently got to watch George Porter Jr. lemme tell ya… he’s got it. I love him.
Another would be Bassist for the Clash.
Elvis Presley recorded (You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care on Bill's bass
Brent Rademaker of the Beachwood Sparks is one of my favorites that should be on here
The last 2 were great
Chris Squire used one at one point if i recall correctly
Dusty Hill's was a supercharged custom one-off bass and he was loaded with dirt and suboctave effects. thats bahs baby
Day 2 of asking for Justin Chancellor's bass tone.
Those vintage basses (That’s what I think they are) look beautiful and a gem from their time
George Porter--yea!
you cheered me up yesterday , done it again Today , Happy Days !
Did James Jameson from the funk brothers play a p bass? If he did he should definitely be on this list. He played everything with just his index finger...
He didn't play original style P bass. He played a later one with split pickups
Could you do bill wymans bass tone for the stones?
That would be awesome
Thank you
Great stuff
Day 4 for asking for Mike Kerr from royal blood’s bass tone
Get to day 8 and it's on.
I only put some on yesterday but started on tick tok
The 51 is still IMO the greatest behs ever
I guess I really do play different. I don't do any of those. I play with my middle and ring fingers and keep my index on my e string. If I feel I need to I'll alternate index and middle, but 90% of the time it's alternating my middle and ring finger.
That's a good top 5.
You forgot the guy from The Commitments!
Playing the sick '52 P-Bass again. Nice!
Tim Bogart with Vanila Fudge.
Amazing P bass player.!
Day 2 of asking for Paul Gray’s behs tone (Hey look it’s Paul’s number)
Ibanez atk and gain?
And left handed too
Excellent. Nailed Sissy Strut
John myung bass tone pls
*behs
you wont be able to hear it even by itself
day 2 asking for tim commerford's bass tone
George Porter Jr. is the $hit!!!
Sooo funky!
Pino Palladino!! Need that chicken grease.
Krist novoselic bass tone plz
Nice job on the Police.
I would definitely add J.W. Brown to the list. Check out his work on most of Jerry Lee Lewis' 1958 recordings like Breathless, High School Confidential, his cover of Jailhouse Rock, I'll Sail My Ship Alone, Put Me Down, etc.
Day 1 asking for mike starrs bass tone
He used to record both an electric bass and acoustic for songs and layered them
I'm a Mike dirnt fan myself
Sting my beloved
Day 4 of asking for Paul McCartney’s white album bass tone
Im a big Dusty Hill fan!
can you recreate the swans bass tone please !!!
Wilton Felder?
You left out Jamerson? You're Fired!
As is mentioned about 30 other places here, Jamerson didn’t play the original (single-coil) P bass, he famously played the split-coil. This list is limited to those who primarily played the original P.
@@jeffg.6110It's obvious these people complaining either have never played the bass or they have played but haven't done their research.
Missed the opportunity to actually use that tug bar.
Has anyone ever tried using a pick and their fingers at the same time like using the pic for the thicker strings and using your free fingers that aren’t holding the pick to pull and pop the higher strings
Much difference in tone from that pickup and the stone cold classic split P pickup?
Very good!❤
Cosa ne pensi del Palladino castom shop?
Day two of asking for Mike Dirnt’s behs tone
True low tone!
What's a strings are uses?
Day 2 of asking for eric wilson from sublimes tone
David J of Bauhaus and Love and Rockerts Behs tone, please.
Omg I wish people would pay attention before commenting! He means first gen P basses 51-56 I believe ! Before they changed to P bass as we know it in 57 🤦🏼♂️All these other people you’re mentioning play/played second gen p basses !
RIP DUSTY
Is it just me or did the 2nd one sound like it could of been the bass line for Hold the Line by Toto
By the way, do you know the name of the second song?
Matt Sharp’s bass tone
Brian Wilson also played a p bass same way as Bill Black
I have it in my head I think stings p behs was number 2 off the production line at fender
Day 7 of asking for Andy Rourke's behs tone :)
Get to day 10 and it's on.
Thank you!!
Phil Lynott, please 😊
Wow its original presishon bas
damn i kind of was expecting james jamerson
Day 4 of asking for Rob trujillos death magnetic bass tone
James Jamerson and Donald Duck Dunn just entered the chat.
Day 1 of asking for Geezer Butler's bass tone
WILTON FELDER??? (played the most iconic pop bass line ever) (also played saxophone)
I think he played a Telecaster Bass which was the original P revived in the late 60s with a few minor changes.
I'm still waiting for Geezer Butler
Could we have a Paul Denman sound like short. Love his work in Sadé. Thanks and love from Germany
can you do mike dirnt’s bass tone?
I believe Jerry Lee Lewis's bassist used one at some point.
Sweet, what strings?
I never liked those p basses much. The split coil just sounds so much fatter and fuller. I did get a Squier Paranormal '54 Jazz bass though, so I can kind of rock the classic look
Steve Harris bass rone pls
Single coil pickups rule.
Robert Deleo played one on alot of Stone Temple Pilots tracks
J.J. Burnel
Mike Dirnt too
what was the second song?
Hello, i liké Donald.D.... blues brother..😅
What about James Jamerson?
