I've been skating for a little over a month know, about an hour or two a day, so these videos really help to keep me motivated. Even in a month the feel on the board is so much better and my feet don't feel so useless anymore haha. I'm 42 so I'm trying to keep what I try within the bounds of what I feel I can do fairly safely. I don't mind taking a fall, I grew up riding dirtbikes and still do, but it's nice to see others taking their time progressing. There can be a lot of pressure to try tricks like the kickflip too early; I just look at it like I plan on still being skating in a year so it'll happen eventually.
@@PotionSeller369 Not bad, over the winter I slowed down to only a couple hours a week but even if I take a few days off I don't feel awkward getting back on, so I've built a good amount of muscle memory up
Fully agree on the kind of tricks this first guy was trying. I’m almost 3 years in and still haven’t really got kickflip, landed a couple rolling on film but that’s it. Yet I can shuv near everytime, ollie into a manual along a long curb, wallplant caveman, bs 180 and the fakie solid among others. I just like these low key tricks than I can incorporate really confidently into my urban riding. Can’t wait to bust out my recent progress in Barcelona this March!
Thanks Ricky! Im at 3months now and started recording progress from day 1, really looking forward to make a compilation of 1 year progress to hype myself and others! Please keep reviewing those, its pure motivation boost!
Love watching these progression vids, back when I was in high school there was a kid I got into skating and he was dropping in a 10ft vert within a couple of months, dude had no fear! I still look back on it today and think if he stuck with it he woulda gone places, he ended up moving to Japan a few months after he got into it. Much love.
Skateboarding is so hard and requires so much commitment, I love the first kickflip reaction. That flip is the culmination of countless hours of pain and frustration and not giving up. So awesome!
Wow this progress video i feel is one of the most realistic ones ive so far i really hope new skaters can find these videos too really show them the hard work recovery and detication to get to the level of other skaters.
makes me want to learn to skate, just to cruise around and ollie stuff. Short seasons, lack of suitable infrastructure dont really help, and I could work on my fitness and balance as well. I'll get to it someday
Awesome Video! I used soft trucks in the winter just to feel the pop . I did start Ollie's with placing my back wheels in a crack without really moving. I don't recommend doing this to long. You really want to move . Learning to guide the board with your front foot when pushing in my opinion is one of the hardest things.
I've been skating again for 3 months now and videos like this are so helpful in trusting the process. Love to see this type of content from you, Ricky 🤙
@@mxsery599 I started to get it a little, I’ve gotten off the ground I just need to work on sliding my foot up, I’ll have it down pretty good by the end of the summer
These videos have inspired me to pick up my board again after literally 3 years. Ive been consistently grinding every day trying to pop an Ollie and I'm starting to get sorta close, just waiting for it to click. It's also hard having no one to correct me if I'm doing anything wrong because I'm pretty sure I am I just have no clue what it is. But who knows maybe in a year or two from now I can share my progress
The switching the shoe thing here in Texas was because we like the other person shoe and wanted to try it out for ourselves before we bought the pair or sometimes just traded shoes at the end of the day
What’s up rick Mr. Leahey from streams here, there’s a talented skater named regular jason who documented his journey start to now and it’s amazing. Definitely recommend.
My heart has been racing watching this entire video like… I don’t even know what to say just watching all these tricks of someone like evolving from new is insane. I’ve “been skating” for like 10 years but never actually taken it seriously for more than like a week cause I smacked my head really hard and just like have always been too scared to commit to trying anything again. I can Ollie decently in the grass or with skater trainers but that’s about it. I’ve always loved skateboarding and wanted to be so much better but I gotta get over the fear. A friend recently got a nice board and is wanting me to go skate with her all the time so I might just invest myself and try and get a lot more comfortable on it and everuthing before diving head first into tricks. Just wish I could Ollie over obstacles
these people are blessed with smooth and flat paths/roads. 😭 I’ve been trying to learn but I have practically nowhere to practice because all roads and paths are uneven and rough
13:55 Because it's hard to learn basics, but once you have them, the next level is putting them together. It's easier to put things you know together than to learn something new
I haven't been on a board in 18 years. After skating around for a few minutes I was able to land ollies and kickflips. I think skating is mostly muscle memory, but it takes a long time to develop it along with getting rid of fear.
ive just started to learn, and its a shame because england is horrible for street skatong since roads and pavement is really bad, holes everywhere. luckily i leave about 15 mins away from a skatepark
i got my board on christmas and never really had time or the right weather to ride it, but i just started skateboarding last week and i can agree, ollie’s are kicking my butt 😂
I've skated for probably 8 months and only started getting my ollies somewhat proper around two months ago, I now don't know what to learn because I can't commit to any other tricks and get too scared. Loved the vid btw

holy that ollie nosemanual or how you spell is shocked me. was so out of nowhere and good. even I cant do that yet. this guy is probably doing awsome lines now
Wow if this is realistic then I suck I’ve been skating for almost 2 years and I can only Ollie and I just learned Ollie off a curb these progression videos are so demoralizing
Progression can rely on a number of factors that can be in or out of your control. # of times you practice, how well of a tactile learner you are, learning at your own pace and not trying to rush yourself etc etc. Just let it happen how it's going to happen. Practice as often as you can but don't compare your success to others 👍
Never skate in my life, but I think it’s a factor of motivation, these people probably practiced one trick for a month straight till they were comfortable enough to move around, and some others skate casually and learn along the way, you aren’t slow at progression, you just aren’t spending 4 hours every day trying to learn one thing, keep it up bro🫶
since you kept saying how you liked how the first guy wasn't doing kickflips straight away, I thought about the time I was teaching a friend how to skateboard, he wanted to immediatly learn how to kickflip, I told him not too but he begged me, so I tried to teach him, after 7 days he lost motivation because of all the failure that he quit.
Hey Rick I’m almost done making a skate progression video I’ll be done with it in about a month I was wondering if you could wach it or something when I finish
I had an injury from skateboarding last year and lost my will to skate but I got back into it a couple of days ago. Any tips for learning the basics?? Thanks
I somehow destroyed the right of a black pair of converse and the left from a red pair of converse. Ended up being my only Skateable pair of shoes. Now I only buy a black and a red pair at a time and swap em straight away cos I like the style 😂😂
literally got my skateboard yesterday and tried to drop in didnt go to well but i could barley get on the board before today. ate sh!t tbh but it was funny asf
28 and have the first board for a month now - still learning ollie hehehe - learning skateboard for my kid so that he will not grow up just using gadgets
i'm getting increasingly more scared of trying new tricks because i have barely been skating and i have already broken my elbow, tore my biceps, bruised my hips and knees, fcked up my shoulder. And all of this happened just because of riding around and trying to ollie. At this point i'm wondering if i should just quit tbh, i'm just way too injury-prone.
Tre flip. I can’t figure it out I have watched so many vids on UA-cam but nothin. I got the scoop just can’t land it . Maybe some kind words from Ricky would help me land my first tre
Why have I been practicing for a year now and can’t even Ollie like I barley can sometimes I land one most times I dont and just scream and throw my board until it look’s mangled
man i have alot of questions but ive been skating for about 3 years but started to learn tricks last summer (still working on my ollie's but not so far off really good ones) but how do we stop that little voice in your head from saying "you gonna bust your ass" or how do we remove most of that fear and just send it? I wanna here your thoughts!!
Been working on ollies this year mainly since I started a June and once it snows here around December (I think it will at least weather is weird now), I might have a few months of hibernation so wanted to at least get those down before then. Also feel it’s the trick that sets up so much. I wish the places in these videos were around where I am, my area it’s either the places have bad ground or are up and down a hill. Trail in my area is good though been able to cruise with ease on it.
bruh how people learn so fast ive been skating for 6 years and im 13 cant kickflip cant shuv can ollie and can 180 and 5050 can board slide can do lot of big air on transion like air over jump box and 180 air out of quarter pipes im so bad for that long
Hey Ricky , been keeping up with you for awhile , I have a bunch of footage from the past year and a half . Keep going, also a good motivator is to record yourself when you skate everyday. May take a while to notice but, you get a little better every day.

Love to hear it. I just got back into skateboarding after years away. Dude my ankles and feet are sore

The fact that skating is very front leg focused is understated
