- The Quick and the Dead is a 1995 western film directed by Sam Raimi and starring Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio. The story focuses on "The Lady" (Stone), a gunfighter who rides into the 1878 Wild West town of Redemption, controlled by the ruthless John Herod (Hackman). The Lady joins a deadly dueling competition in an attempt to exact revenge for her father's death.
Writer Simon Moore's script for The Quick and the Dead was purchased by Sony Pictures Entertainment in May 1993, and actress Sharon Stone signed on as both star and co-producer. Development was fast tracked after director Sam Raimi's hiring, and principal photography began in Old Tucson Studios in Arizona on November 21, 1993. Distribution duties were covered by Sony-owned TriStar Pictures and Columbia Pictures. The Quick and the Dead was released in the United States on February 10, 1995 to a dismal box office performance, and received mixed but generally favorable reviews from critics.
This was Woody Strode's final performance (the film is dedicated to him), as well as the last theatrical release of Roberts Blossom. - Фільми й анімація
“Just a few more zooming in eye shots and we have a masterpiece” - director
Im glad Raimi quit doing this bullshit so much later in his career though. Jesus this was annoying.

@@OpenMawProductions Yes?
they certainly took that up in LOTR
Editor: How much zoom do you want?

this film was directed by sam rami, who did the original evil dead and the Tobey Maguire spiderman movies.
zooms and titled camera angles are his trademark
@@brocky70 Very tech oriented director.
After seeing the full movie you realize that Swede got off easy.
"Wow Thank God I lost before it was to the death"
@@CharlieBrown20XD6 one guy got shot in the balls, the other in both hands, another in the head, the whole town blew up. yah back to Stockholm for me.
It's Mr Swedish Champion to you!
What about the guy Kurt Russell first challenged?
Glad he lived, seemed like a nice guy
I liked the Swedish guy. He was polite. I’m glad he got out early and survived. :)
A good player is gracious in defeat. He was probably conscious of how many men he killed with his own gun and happily took the lucky exit here!
Quietly crying at seeing a LeMat tossed like that at the end.
A shame really
Was that a Lemat? I thought the Swedish champion used a black powder with a built in ramrod. Edit I stand corrected…. Was repeating a claim someone once told me
@@MrSheckstr Yeah, it started out a black powder weapon, pretty sure they did conversions or flat out made some cartridge versions once they became commonplace. Cartridges that is, I don't think there were too many LeMats past a certain point.
@@MrSheckstr Lemats were originally percussion revolvers, hence the ramrod. Many Lemats, like many percussion revolvers in general at the time were converted to fire metallic cartridges. Gutzon's obviously was not.
Yeah. LeMat. It's a reproduction. 400 bucks, tops, and that's if you got ripped off.
Dang, that gun the Swede was using was a Lemat Mark II! Nice to see one on the big screen! It was a pistol rarely seen in the West, developed by the Confederates during the Civil War. It had a 9 round cylinder and a single shot shotgun barrel under the pistol barrel, which you can see clearly while it's laying on the ground.
It was developed by the french, and they sold some to the confederates. The rest of what you're saying is true except maybe the fact that it was a rare revolver, it wasn't as common as the colts or s&w revolvers but it wasn't uncommon either, 2900 produced and sold wasn't a tiny number compared to other revolvers that the confederate used (again, they didn't design this one, the name was a good clue)
The Lematt revolver is probably one of the worst choices in terms of quick-draw pistols. It is heavy cumbersome and frankly quite awkward and finicky. But hey if you are using the shotgun you don't have to worry about aiming too much
@@stanfordwillis4841 there were also pinfire and centerfire versions
@@isaiahjerue6564 the shotgun would only be very close up since it is incredibly short barrel and 20 gauge
@@stanfordwillis4841 a lot of Lemats didn't survive so yes it was rare back then. 2900 is tiny compared to 5000 or 10k or 40k
of all the zoom, this one has to be my favorite:

Yeah, tilt that camera. So creative. I'm genius! - director 😂
Laughable
He looks like a little kid dressed up for Halloween
Leo looks like he would be lucky to be 12 years old here
This kid is fast. I bet he wins the whole thing.
No no no u don’t love 💕 me & I No now
yep, he sure did
I saw this movie at it's opening in Stockholm. Being from Denmark, we like to compete with Sweden, and seeing the swedish champion beeing the first to go, in Sweden, was good fun!
Fun fact #2 : Swede Gutzon was played by Sven-Ole Thorsen who is Danish....so actually it was a dane who was the first to go ;-)
Envy is hell of a drug
you laugh now but the riots in Sweden as a result of them losing first was a big deal. Hundreds of Swedish theaters were destroyed and a group of Swedes even traveled to Hollywood to throw Köttbullar at the show's writers.
@@jaystrickland4151 lmao 🤣🤣🤣
Thats very strange
Nicest duel in the whole movie.
If I'm not mistaken, that Swedish guy is Arnold Schwarzenegger's friend who's always in movies with him. He was in The Running Man, Predator, and Conan the Barbarian. I think he's like a trainer or weight lifting buddy?
Yup, Sven Ole-Thorson. He was also in 'Gladiator', 'Pink Cadillac',
'Hard Target', 'The hunt for Red October', 'Route 666' and 'Overboard'.
@@txgunguy2766 ah Gladiator is what I remember him from. So he was spared death in 2 duals...a couple thousand years apart.
@@awachtel
Yup, then he tried hunting Jean-Claude Van Damme in the Louisiana bayou.
@@txgunguy2766 "Sorry about the shirt."
That guy is actually Arnold’s cousin.
Gotta say, this is one of my favourite roles Leo played
The Swede wasn't that slow, he cleared holster and was pointed at the kid before he got hit
Yeah but him reaching over his hip was really what made him lose
Being from Sweden I had absolutely no idea there was ever such a thing as a Swedish quick draw championship during the wild west era lol.
The more you learn...
you should have studied Swedish history, or stayed awake
Well, might be like when they tried to make gun duels a olympic sport. A one time thing. At least that's what I remember reading about the olympic duel sport.
@@Remoniq wax bullets and protective gear for the hands and feet. forgotten weapons channel showed off a pair. the duels were held by clubs including new york city
Hard to believe that Leonardo was age 21 at the time.
He didn't choose the baby-face, the baby-face chose him.
Kid still looked like he was 15 or so.
I like any movie Leonardo dies in. Can't stand him.
@@davidmihevc3990 why tho
@Varik Lane For one, I don't happen to think he is as big of deal that alot of people, including himself, think he is.
For another, he is a climate change hypocrite. Like alot of other elite Hollywood liberals, he preaches about climate change as he is flying around the world in private jets and cruising around on his luxury yacht. I despise hypocrisy.
Director: Zoom in, zoom in, zoom inzoominzoominzoominzoomin!!!!!!
"If Swede'd been any slower, he'd've had bird nesting in his hat."
"Am I fast, or is that guy just lugging a 20lb pistol?"
Sven-Ole Thorsen is Danish though, which of course would explain why he lost.
*Yeah...he was thinking of 'Wild Strawberries' and pointlessness of Life and lost his 'Mojo'*
Of course.... Everytime we get a posibility to make the Swedes look bad. We take it.. ;) ;)
But, of course, the swedish champ was the first to go! Very funny as a dane, seeing the movie in Stocholm. We went on to see the pride of the swedish navy, Vasa, which in 1628 sank after sailing less than a nautical mile🥴. That was a great vacation!
Explains why he played a Swede lol
Hail Sweden. You hosted the handball World Championship. How did you do? ;-)
What's with these camera angles?? Reminds me of Battlefield Earth, lmao!
No, there would have been an echoey scene when Gene Hackman says "We're going to quit wounding eachother in the streets." Everyone would look relieved then he'd add "We're going to fight to THE DEATH in the streets! HAHAHAHA!!"
Never mention that abomination
A serious movie becomes the inspiration for so many UA-camrs playful cinematography...
Only now did I notice that when the Swedish Champion threw away his gun, it was still cocked so lucky for the bystanders noone was hurt.
I miss those days when a guy shooting fast was a good thing …
brilliant!!!
Why would you stand behind a person in a pistol duel?
The swede missed.
well done jack!
I have got two movie DVDS of
Leonardo DiCaprio with
Kate Winslet Bernard Hill
and Kathy Bates in
Titanic
with Sharon Stone Gene Hackman
and Russell Crow in

I am dedicating these movie DVDS to my old school friends who are both sisters and I hope to see them both again very soon to Chris Marie and Hester Brand from Billyxxxxx
Movie rocks !!! 2018 !!
hey its the guy that sank with the ship and then froze to death...
Sven-Ole Thorsen was in that? Damn, I guess I should rewatch it.
yea, this was before he went to Britain after he faked his own death.. ironic that he died trying to come back, eh?
Wish they didn't have him throw his LeMat. That was a beauty of a piece.
Just relish In the fact that it’s a replica even in the movie cold mountain the LeMat depicted was a fully functional replica.
Clean it off. It's a steel machine, not a holy relic marshmalllow.
This was such a funny movie. What I mean by that is the way it was filmed. It's almost like if it was meant to be some sort of comic book parody of the West to exaggerate already embellished stories about the West.
Sam Raimi directed it, that’s exactly what it was meant to be
@@Abatteries So many Raimisms in it I didn't catch the first time I saw it before Evil Dead. That scene where Russle Crow has to jump for the flying bullet is straight out of an Ash + Chainsaw scene.
Thorgrim just can't get a break.
Still sad about his snake, I reckon
He’s still beside himself with grief.
How many close ups? ALL OF THEM!!!
The Swede shoulda asked for guidance from Crom.
Thorgrim worshipped Set and Thulsa Doom
lol always found funny Mr. Swedish Champ reaches across to pull out his gun... Obviously not going to be faster -_-
FanTabulous Micky Jackson he also used old fashioned ball bullets instead of the conical bullets everyone else uses
You see him load them earlier in the movie
Tyler Keaton you mean the shot? I think they called the ball bullets shots
WHITE DEER they don't, the ball bullets are what you'd load into a musket
Forgot if they had a special name
Tyler Keaton they don't what? If you're referring to shots or whatever they're called, they were in muskets, but they were also in old pistols and rifles, before they brought in bullets
WHITE DEER They didn't call them shots, they were known as simply "Round Balls", and later on they were slightly changed in design and known as Minie Balls
Si vi esta película y actuó muy bien Leonardo di Caprio, excelente actor ok 👍 👌 👏👏👏
kid Leo was amazing
So this western town is where Maximus first met Tigris of Gaul i guess
I love leo♥
very simple story and many faces
They had gunfight contests in Sweden?
Swedish gun champion is hilarious since Sweden is known for staying away from war

5 years later Russell Crowe and Sven would face off.
YES! I knew I recognized Sven from elsewhere. "We who are about to die salute you!"
@@Entertainer114 Also, Conan, Mallrats, Running Man, Captain Power, etc.
This cinematography is so awesomely bad.
This movie is covered with cheese
Was I the only one anxious that he tossed the revolver with the hammer cocked back?
Extras must be counting their Blessing now that Alec didn't take the preacher roles.
The Swede was fast but he had to reach across his hip which really gives him a huge disadvantage in quick draw time. Still he was fast at grabbing it even though it was like a mile reach in the quick draw game
I don't think kid went full out here. If he did the swede would've been down before he had the time to even know the clock had striked
@@struttux5156 possibly. Then again the Kid did like risking against all others except his dad. He was dead serious against him
@@c.galindo9639 I know we never saw the swede against ayone else to compare but he only won the SWEDISH championship and not anything bigger than that so i assume he was half-decent at most 😂😂 At least kid was the first we know about to even touch Herod and prove he could be defeated. That wasn't a bad merit to leave behind.
@@struttux5156 yup although the Kid himself stated Herod got a little slower so even at his best he wasn’t as fast as an aging Herod
@@c.galindo9639 Kid had the potential but he should've waited and trained a few more years before challenging him. He wasn't ready for that.
Pissed off !
Set setup.
Too bad they didn't have paint ball guns in the past to determine the fastest draw. Life was cheap in the old west.
This sort of concept is complete hollywood fantasy and did not actually happen. Life was far from cheap in the 19th century on the contrary it was precious and far more civil and respected than anything hollywood has ever churned out. A truly realistic portrayal of 19th century america would actually be pretty boring.
Right in the borks.
Swede?? Perhaps he is from Minnesota? 👍🤠 🇸🇪
The Swede's grandson tried to win a fight against Master Sargent Gunny Highway but met a similar fate.
Swede! Swede! Swede! Swede!
Sweden is a very small place
The transition and zoom looks like an indian telenovela, a bit..i glad i didn't see breaking shattered effect
It annoys me more than it should that the swedish champion is played by an danish actor... :D
The Swede is actually Austrian - AND Arnold Schwarzenegger’s cousin.

nezir çağlar yeah and he’s Titus of Gaul in Gladiator too.
You mean "Tigris of Gaul". Yes, Sven-Ole Thorsen.
Who plays the tall saloon gal?
Why on God's green earth would you use a Lemat revolver for a quick draw contest ?
Sweden YES
Can someone explain the beef between Sweden and Denmark lol these comments are funny

Hate seeing "prop" guns tossed in the dirt like that. It could have gone off by itself and shot someone. Guns do that, I heard.
That’s because on prop guns you don’t have to pull the trigger. It’s physics!
Gun fights are all too costly.
The entire movie is an excuse for seeing people shooting each other to death. That's it.....That is the movie.
Bullets
Sell me this gun
I tell you what, this whip-zoom style did not age well.
I guess Sweden one of its best lol
at least the swed wasnt played by a black american lol

@jordan well, its just the truth. sweden is being overrun by africans. that has nothing to do with races.
Like the Valkiria in "Thor:Ragnarok"? ;)
Overrun but not Africans, Muslims to be specific.

The quick way the Swede lost and gave up are we sure he wasn’t French
As a swedish I dislike this clip :D
Look how gosh dang pretty Leo used to be! Now he looks like a homeless Jeff Bridges impersonator.
rubbish
This scene is what I'd call "double fantasy" - firstly, there never were any 'quick draw championships' in Sweden and secondly, if there had been, no sane person would ever believe a Swede would lose to an American. 😉
When the James gang rode into Minnesota on a band raid, they figured it would be a cake walk. Just a bunch of Swedish farmers... easy. The townsfolk got rifles from the hardware store and blew the bandits to hell. Swedes may not be much on the quick draw, but they ain't scared.
i would be that one guy to bring an Uzi or G18 to a duel
You would be very slow when you draw these guns. ^^
That would have been some trick in the late 19th century.
cheesy and awful
Has got to be the stupidest western ever made! Parody to Spaghetti's or not.
Hands down THE dumbest western, ever made.
It's not fair to Sweden, 😖guy is actually Danish 😆
