    I find this very interesting how you root some of your succulents in water!! Very curious!!! We are all taught to keep them kinda dry until they root in soil. But I think your results are even better than straight soil!! Very cool Lyn!!! Thanks for sharing this video with us all!!! Excellent results, Lyn 😃 They certainly rooted up very nicely in the water. I did try water therapy on a Haworthia in the past but it rotted unfortunately. I don’t think it was because of the water but I think the plant was done for anyway. I’ll definitely give it a go again. Thank you for sharing with us as always, Lyn. Hi Lyn, This is a remarkable experiment with very surprising results as we expect gasterias and aloes to be prone to rotting. I wonder what would happen if the succulent was left in water and if it would continue to send out roots and grow. Also remember hyacinth vases were the bulb is held just above the water? I wonder what the outcome would be if the gasteria was grown in this way too?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  Рік тому +1

      So happy you loved the Gasteria experiment :-D yes I remember the Hyacinth bulbs in the water vases haha, I was tempted the leave the Gasterias longer in water to see how they would grow long term, but I think once they enter their resting period they could rot in the water, I will be testing out the water method with many other types of succulents too, thanks so much for your wonderful comments and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

    Very nice results, Lyn, and definitely an interesting and sucessful experiment, congrats!!😊👍 I have not tried it myself, but I have also heard of folks growing Gasterias completely without any substrate, purely in hydroculture or hydroponic cultivation!! Do you have any experiences growing these, or any other succulents for that matter (especially cacti) in hydroponic cultivation? Best wishes to you and Hans, enjoy your Sunday afternooon and evening!! 🌵🌵🌵🏵🌻 🌸😎

      Thanks so much Joe :-D I am so happy to see these Gasteria pups have rooted so well in water, I have never tried Hydroponic cultivation yet, but I do know of quite a few growers here in Ireland who grow some of their cacti and many of their succulents purely with Hydroponic methods and they have really good success, they do add fertilisers as well, its something that I would love to try out in the future too, thanks so much Joe for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

    Hi I have a question regarding cactus repotting/propagating.
    I had to cut my cactus cause it was getting to long, and I left it to callus just as you instructed in your videos.
    But my cactus had sort of a pup, which I hoped had roots of its own but unfortunately it didn't. I twisted it off hoping it would leave a clean wound, but it left a nasty rip.
    Now I am not sure what to do with the pup. I'd like to plant it of course and I have no idea how to make it root. What should I do?
    (I sent you photos on the matter in instagram dm's if this is a way you'd be willing to communicate)

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  Рік тому

      Hi Martin :-D so sorry I can't get onto my instagram fpr the past few weeks due to my phone being broken and waiting to get a new one, I may be able to access my instagram messages via my Facebook on my laptop and I will check but you can email me at lyn@desertplantsofavalon.com too, I may not be able to get on to check my mails until tomorrow morning as I am going to be at work until very today, but I will check first thing in the morning, the good news is the pup should still be ok, if the rip is at the bottom of the pup it should callus over in time and you should be able to pot it up, but its best to leave the rip on the pup to callus over for a good couple of weeks or more before potting it up, the roots should still grow from one of the areoles on the pup, but I will take a look at the photo and see what is best, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX
