Your base thinks Ole Miss is better than Oregon. As in they would win tomorrow. You should try to change that because you and I know that’s not true.

According to ESPN FPI it would be 12 points. Almost 2 TDs. Ole Miss is very overrated by the public and the Oregon disrespect is insane. Recruiting is only important to these SEC homers until a Western or Northern team is doing it.

I don't have a problem with autobids for the Big 12 and the ACC (I'm skeptical about the G5). But I don't think conference winners should automatically get the byes. Include a bid for the B12 and ACC, but give the top 4 teams the byes.

Love your show and agree with you on 90% of your issues. However, on the auto-bid discussion. How can you claim you deserve a shot to be labeled as the best team in the country if you aren't in the argument as the best team in your conference? I am not talking about a Georgia of last year. Or even when Ohio State won it all from the 4 seed and both TCU and Baylor got left out. In a 12 team playoff, a 9-3 or even a 10-2 3rd or 4th place SEC team should not have a more valid claim than an 11-1 team that won their conference, EVEN if that team is a Boise St. And that is hard to say as an OU alumni that is staring that possibility in the face if we have an amazing season and go 5-3 in the SEC this year with our schedule.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention the NFL when talking about auto bids. Each division champ gets an auto bid which is why we can see a 8-9 #4 seed play a 12-5 #2 seed. So if anything they are just following the NFL protocols. I’m not arguing for one way or the other though.

JP - I think the entire point of the auto-bid system is to incentivize a team to remain competitive in conference championship games if they know they'll get into the CFB playoff regardless of the outcome of the game. Just my take.

Absolutely do not remove auto bid for conference champs. You have the old mindset where it was possible for a 8-4 team getting into the playoffs but no divisions makes that impossible now. Why bother playing in a conference championship if you don't have a auto bid for the playoffs that's stupid pate!

I love the autobids. The one thing I don't like about CFB is that the idea of best isn't really decided on the field. It's constant debate with so many questions in a sport so unbalanced. Having a clear path to the playoff is better for the sport. I'd rather have a good idea how my team makes the playoff instead of a group of 13 guys in Texas deciding who's better than who
Regarding your LSU “wildcard team”, let’s be honest: they’re in a holding pattern waiting on Underwood.

Everyone raising Cam Ward up when all of his stats resemble TVD's time at Miami. Yes, he has the more "favorable" schedule (a.k.a "easier") and pushing him as a Heisman contender because of it. I guess playing well in a subpar conference automatically dictates end of year accolades. Might as well schedule a full year against FCS schools if competition doesn't matter when it comes to handing out trophies.
If Brock Bowers didn't beat a QB for Heisman, it's not likely to happen.

BIGGEST WILDCARD TEAM: Boston College Eagles. This team could be anywhere from 9-3 to 3-9.
What is Bill O’Brien going to do in Year 1 taking over a BC team (7-6) that bookended the season by stubbing their toe against Northern Illinois in the opener and finished by beating a ranked SMU team in a bowl game last year. BC brings back a dynamic dual threat quarterback in Thomas Castellanos who threw for 2200+ yards and ran for 1100+ yards with 28 combined TDs.
The schedule fell nicely this year (outside of @FSU and @MIZZ) so I think they’ll end up 8-4 but there are still a lot of questions that need to be answered on the field.
Also take away neutral fields in the playoffs til the national championship. Reward the best teams with home field through the semis. Could you imagine the atmospheres?!

Id like to argue against Josh's autobid argument- theres a similar function in soccer with the Champions league where better leagues send more teams to the competition, but it's so exciting because some teams do get to earn their right to be there and play well-Bayern Munich is an example of like FSU running the ACC and still contributing to the quality of the playoffs because they have a winning mentality

UF has a roster that can legit go 10-2 and a coaching staff that legit only win 1 game this season. I have no idea what to expect. I would just stay away from betting UF games until October tbh

How is it 9.25 to say that the Big 10 gets 2 and the SEC gets 1 in the final four? It's not that wild to say a combination of OSU, Oregon, Michigan and PSU will put two in and the ACC or Big 12 gets one in. That only requires the acc or Big 12 champ to win one HOME game in the playoff. Then you put OSU and Oregon in and wallah
I would even argue that this season its more likely than not. I think OSU and Oregon are both top 4 teams in the country, and I think the sec is more likely to cannabalize itself than the big 10

How do you figure? Both teams had the same record. Texas played a slightly tougher schedule and won a championship. You can't put Georgia over Bama, and you can't put Bama over Texas.
If winning your conference does not give you an automatic bid then get rid of all conferences. I am all for the legitimate best 12 teams get a spot in the playoff, but then just get rid of the conferences then because there are literally no reasons to have conferences if it doesn’t get you in automatically. Games have to mean something. If you weren't good enough to be the 4th best team in your own conference, you shouldn't be given a spot bc you would be favored over another team by Vegas. Realignment has changed strength of schedules considerably, but if you want to prioritize money over having the ability to win your games... I won't pity you for a second.

Also I agree with most of your takes. I do not agree with your take on auto-bids. To me auto-bids need to remain a part of the playoff because, saying that one team would automatically win another teams conference is just an opinion. Saying that the SEC and B1G are farr superior conferences then the Big 12 and the ACC, is just an opinion.
I believe to get that 1st round BYE, you should have to win your conference. Then if/when you get the opportunity to play the winner of the Big 12 or the winner of the ACC, you have an opportunity to prove that you're better than them and the rest of their conference.
Just because you think that one conference is superior to another, so you would put in 4 teams from one conference in the playoff before you put in the champion of one conference, does not mean that that conference is weak. That means that your opinion of that conference is that its weak. Your opinion of a conference shouldn't determine the entire conferences outlook.
Auto-bids should always be a part of the playoff.
