Thank you Crass ....you were the soundtrack to my childhood. Much love and respect for influencing me through your music and words. Personal freedom and the ability to keep an open mind through lifes challenges and to remain free in spirit and the physical...... a treasure that is true happiness for me.... No one is perfect ,nothing ever is......we can only do our best and together live the best life we possibly can. Thankyou.
You could say they were an anarchist band but all they were singing about was life as they saw it at the time. They were never mainstream punk if there was such a thing but they were true to their beliefs and even today they still put their all in to their music.Nostalgia it may be, but eh everyone had a good time and its just a shame its their last gig.
this was the first crass song I heard by crass way back in '79 it got me thinking in a different way and also introduced me to other bands like them. Glad to see they are still getting the message out
my five favourite punk songs of all time in descending order - 1. bloody revolutions (crass), 2. stars and stripes of corruption (dead kennedys), 3. Spirit of Keith Moon (Peter and the Testube Babies), 4. At The Edge (Still Little Fingers), Surplus Toys (Striknien DC)
How do you know society is the same ? Don't underestimate the Crass influence in the 1990s free party scene, hunt sabbing, the ALF, the road protests, poll-tax riot, AFA, Conflict etc. etc. Just because some windows remain unsmashed doesn't mean nothing came out of it. The participants are still here, shaping the lives of those around them every day. "There Is No Authority But Yourself" blimey, what power those six words gave to my life, it makes me choke up and for that I have Crass to thank
Excellent vid! The guitarists may look a bit like beefy brawlers, but this is still real punk...and the lass has a great set of lungs to belt out one of Crass' most tuneful creations.
Spot on comments, mate. And to all those who say it's the same Crass, how would this have gone down back in the early 80's if they had played there with the merchandising surrounding it?
The venue has far better acoustics than the dives they used to play and mixing desks have come on light years since then. I hope they all make a few bob out of it, - you prefer to see Steve busking? or working shifts on an assembly line? Crass deserve comfort and dignity in the dotage that comes to us all.
its funny that the only bands i could really consider to be punk would be crass/poison girls/ flux of pink indians/rudimentary peni all are from the same scene apparently.. thanks for this eh..
I dont think anyone could explain, maybe the "There Is No Authority But Yourself " documentary may give some insight, may even give some idea behind what the point was. Like many things in life....mmmm, I dont think Richard Dawkins writes books for the creationist or the folk in the Vatican but I have no doubt he thought about them. Maybe some Crass publications with further reading sources lead some ppl to new ideas, who knows.
because people know they cant really do anything about it so they listen to this stuff to feel better for not being able to make a stand. Or they grow a sense of humor. sometimes people come close to actually doing something but instead they a make a rock band or get killed by CIA in south america. I just like the music.
hey markusa, i thought it was a great gig, went on saturday, which was better sound apparantly. crass won't reform, but i thank them for being them, a great band with good intentions.
u got it-best bands in the world (f.e. CRASS, REFUSED..) did split in time because they didn't want to get caught in the system. There is always some kind of 'system'..people are just building their own ones and try to get u caught in their trap, their expectations, their point of views, their mind..they want u to be their puppet..I had to read some bad mouth talking being posted about Steve for getting paid for his job doin a concert..these guys didn't understand a single word..do they owe us??
Don't know just how much money they made at their height anyway. I heard the sold their albums for cost price, making them like no profit whatsoever. And on the albums they wrote "pay no more than" so that shops couldnt rip people off
Yeah...I am 30-something, watching Crass from across on my iMac, across the ocean, with my college education, a glass of wine, and food it my fridge. I can't call any of 'em sellouts. Unless Steve dies because of baconfat like the fucking Strummer did...then I'll talk some smack!
Oh, fuck yeah. 'Twas the start of my Awakening... ummm, 31 years ago. It's a work in progress, but nice to get this reminder; and have to say, it's as relevant as ever, even though as a collective back then, we anarcho-pacifist type kinda missed the opportunities open to us. If we could have seen what 2011 looks like now, we might have taken things a lot more seriously. Cheers, anyway!
They have a point ya know, to me it's just as sound as most things out there, however it is odd to see old people sp outing their youthful anger filled idealist rants. Anarchist Ballad. lol
are you sure it was crass rang the police could have been anyone, and why was someone kicking their guitars anyway, strange kind of behaviour to go to a gig and start kicking the guitars of one of the bands, i've been pissed out of me head and caused chaos at loads of punk gigs but never attacked a band or their gear (well apart from a few amps)
yeah.. it was the anniversary of darby crashes death yesterday i belive.. what aboot antischism or weird punk shit like hit parade or D&V. blah.. i dont like fear much tho.. warsaw.. fuck.. i guess theres a few punk bands
SO DONT THINK YOU CAN FOOL ME WITH YOUR POLITICAL TRICKS. POLITICAL RIGHT POLITICAL LEFT YOU CAN KEEP YOUR POLITICS. GOVERNMENT IS GOVERNMENT AND ALL GOVERNMENT IS FORCE LEFT OR RIGHT OR RIGHT OR LEFT IT TAKES THE SAME OLD COARSE OPPRESSION AND RESTRICTION REGULATION RULE AND LAW THE SEIZURE OF THAT POWER IS ALL YOUR REVOLUTIONS FOR
nearly a year ago allready. im in two minds about the gig now.... it was good at the time (nearly a year ago now ) but, the band here were wankers. jumping around like rock star pricks. thank fuck crass wont ever reform.
it does seem a bit overly produced, and a production of what they think people want to see. idk, I definitely can't say nothing, I'm just sad I missed the beginning, when you over think things you ruin them. don't crass say something about an institution being the lengthened shadow of one person? and perhaps somewhere warn of becoming what your protesting? I wonder what there kids are up to? do any of them carrie on the true tradition? or is this the final nail in punk's coffin?
"Conway Hall! The Musical!" Starring Rylan as Steve, Michael Ball as Pen Rimbaud and Anita Dobson as Eve Libertine. "You'll Laugh! You'll Cry! You'll Get Stabbed With a Screwdriver!"
anyways....what the profits of this show is for?as long it remains for actions,(at large)i don't fucking care about what happening with who,what,were,howcome.......etc. but if not... ACT NOW,HARVEST LATER
I think the problem was the venue, as I said b4 people wouldn'tve slagged it off so much, the band whatever etc if it had have been played in a smaller pub, what was wrong with playing 7 nights in the one pub? Sure it's messier but you surely wouldn't have had people saying selling out?
Thank you Crass ....you were the soundtrack to my childhood. Much love and respect for influencing me through your music and words. Dillzogg true
Met Steve and thanked him on behalf of myself and a few others...what a pleasure to be able to do that.
The greatest band of all time. Cutting, honest lyrics with meaning and passion.
Instablaster.
I'm glad I can say I walked with all of them from the start. Thank you all.
You could say they were an anarchist band but all they were singing about was life as they saw it at the time. Steve Ignorant is a great Performer

Hey, that was bloody fantastic! The lyrics are hard-wired into my head from 1980 when I first heard it!!
So true
How do you know society is the same ?

"There Is No Authority But Yourself" blimey, what power those six words gave to my life, it makes me choke up and for that I have Crass to thank
Oh god...
that's the first time I see them live.
amazing. and eve libertine is still sexy to me.
song that changed my life.
Who sang the eve libertine verse? She does a great job..
only discovered them in the past couple of years (being 19 I wasn't about then) They're brilliant and I love this song, cheer for posting.
How i wish soooo much that i was there.
Love the music that Crass put out
This, in my opinion, is their best song.
Noc miłości - The Feeding of the 5000, niezapomniany koncert, cieszę się, że mogłem to widzieć na żywo, chyba najlepszy koncert w moim życiu...
It's a shame more people can't get off their backsides like this lot
Thanks for the memories Crass. I'll always be Crass.
I never got to see Crass at the time - they were always sold out; better a bigger venue than hanging around outside the leadmill or wherever....
Legend.
Relevant then.Relevant now.
We're all still fighting.Nothing has changed.
Same shit different decade.
What are you gonna be doing come the time ?
so awesome. thank you for uploading
great weekend.
thanks for posting.
i hope steve tahkes this on tour.
flux should too who were brilliant.
I was into crass, from being a 13 year old, I saw them in 84. good on em for giggging . but all the love and peace stuff is comical
Why, - what's comical about either?
Yeah that's showbiz....says it all really.
saw crass about 30 years ago in germany w/ poison girls - yepp we're 'old' now but we're proud of it - punk rules...4ever
What a brilliant tune
goosepimples....saw CRASS nearly 30 years ago in GER...Steve still rocks...
fab film mate :)
Brilliant.

Awesome live, a revolution in it self.
they made what we are...and what we do today...respect
Excellent vid! The guitarists may look a bit like beefy brawlers, but this is still real punk...and the lass has a great set of lungs to belt out one of Crass' most tuneful creations.
Pity, respected them so much as a kid! But they turned into their own worst enemy! They became all that they fought against!
It was a good gig and everyone enjoyed it,as for ppl saying about selling out how the fuck do you work that one out.
You're right on there bud. Their message is as relevant now as it ever was.
Respect
thank you!!!!!!!!!!
Oh....i was kidding though about the sexy thing.
ah that makes more sense, someone must have knicked my reading glasses
when i look back on it janer it was a great weekend. but when you think about it it does smell a bit of sellout ? i dont know.
Spot on comments, mate.

Was Steve the only original Crass member there? I can't deny it's good hearing those songs again.
Fuckin love them.
OMG faaaaack.. Wish I was there!
@facialfetus and I agree almost whole heartedy.

Wow
yes after watching the mini-movie Penny rimbaud looks like more like a Grateful Dead Burnout then a Punk Pioneer!
they can call it freedom but slavery is the game
Is that EVE doing vocals? Whoever that is, slaying this song F awesome
It is!!!
No it's a woman called Sadie 9
@wojtekmysza w Londynie?
Penny Rimbaud thought this was a display of insult to crass.

He was.
Oh well that passed a few minutes......
nice to see you dont have to grow up and end up living in a mortgaged prison cell in england.
wow!
good for them.
@lukaszgolebiewski Zgadzam sie w zupelnosci. A dzis powtorka.
the best punk song ever written...jello biafra comes close with a few though
Did Steve sing " Don't want your revolution, I want anarchy and Christ"?
who is the blonde woman?
why yes it is
because people know they cant really do anything about it so they listen to this stuff to feel better for not being able to make a stand. Or they grow a sense of humor. sometimes people come close to actually doing something but instead they a make a rock band or get killed by CIA in south america. I just like the music.
best punk song ever written- just about beats some gems from jello biafra
still a classic even though its not THE crass
@amnodeidyet Too right, well said mate. So many are too blind to see it. It's the hypocrisy that gets me.
oh, its fine, no big deal
The same people who put on this gig?
hey markusa, i thought it was a great gig, went on saturday, which was better sound apparantly. crass won't reform, but i thank them for being them, a great band with good intentions.

Don't know just how much money they made at their height anyway. I heard the sold their albums for cost price, making them like no profit whatsoever. And on the albums they wrote "pay no more than" so that shops couldnt rip people off

Fucking BANDS eh?
