Yeah, I kind of feel like most small weapons are very much meant to be used with a shield or dual-wielded. Dual-wielding makes up for the damage deficit, while a shield gives you more offensive pressure options.
Funnily enough, before 1.05 (or was it a some small patch after 1.04?) the warpick literally had no piercing properties to its attacks, meaning it was literally the most pointless (pun fully intended) hammer. Combined with the lack of range, Hyper armour, and decent AR, it is one of the saddest hammers in the game. Those who remember the warpick from previous souls games, including me, are extremely disappointed. I just dont get why its so stupidly small - the soldiers who used them werent any bigger than the player character, so why did their hammer shrink so much? A phallic joke maybe? Warpick is pretty good with war/barbaric cry for pvp in my experience. Just using the hyper armor to fish for trades with the spear talisman tends to make up for the lack of AR.
@@ShinnyMetal I'm inclined to agree with you! The Rusty Anchor is strictly an improvement from the warpick but the warpick is very underused and I like being a little hipster with my builds. The comment was mainly me saying a way you could use the weapon and be competitive with more popular weapons

As a mage I use the morning star with a cold infusion, the cold proc first(reducing the defense) and then the bleed, both time the enemy is staggered. Its not complicated, any weapon that does bleed damage inherently is superior to any other weapon of the same type. You are placing pure AR way too high on your list. It doesnt matter if a specific enemy is immune to bleed, because Elden ring is easy enough that you dont need a specialised weapon to beat it anyway. Also considering that everybody and their mother use bleed, it helps in cooperation because we build the same status effect much more quickly.
Ah, finally. My 2nd favorite weapon class (greathammer is bigger bonk). Only downside to hammer is the range, but I feel the damage and stagger make up for it.

It shouldn’t surprise me that Marika’s hammer is a quality weapon when in this game barely a handful of Holy weapons are good, and pretty much everything in the game scales with dex lol. Makes sense that the hammer deals physical damage though since end game bosses resist Holy very hard.
I've fallen in love with the Morning Star in PvP. Barbaric roar lets you just beat the crap out of people, roll catch with crouch attacks, get counter hits with running heavies, and it does bleed. Amazing.
True, but considering the hammer class was basically garbage in dog3 before ashes of ariandel, its safe to say that it will probably get better. What i dont get is how can they make the same mistakes two games in a roll, when the previous game had an end product that clearly worked for many players.
“If you want to use dex but not monk mace, use lightning.” “I recommend the regular hammer for those wanting to get into hammers.” Just thought I’d point out that connection.
In-game descriptions are often fluff that tends to be even more misleading (because, well, it is the game itself). Warpick does pierce damage on all its attacks except the mounted R2 charge.
not a point specific to hammer but about your analisys in gneeral: are we sure quality is really that useless? based on some simple in-game tests, it seems to me that quality is a non-specific handling affinity that is to say, whereas heavy favors 2-handing a wapon and keen favors 1-handing, quality is a middle of the road, not as good at 1-handing as keen, not as good at 2-handing than heavy, BUT, better at 1-handing than heavy, and at 2-handing than keen. now does it make the quality infusion viable? no, not at all, unless you're someone who switches moveset constantly, you're just better off picking one of the other two. still, it is something to consider.

The problem with quality is that the inherent strength of quality build is the variety of weapons you can use, but if you want to be effective with them youd want more stats invested, but if you have enough stats invested typically speaking going for just keen or heavy will always outdamage quality infusion. Personally i dont really understand why quality infusion still exist anyway. Id rather have raw be back. Ill just infuse keen if it scales better, or heavy if it does. Simple as.
@@sturmmagnunstein1008 this not sure why they got rid of raw, it was such a useful infusion whereas quality feels more like a compromise than an actually useful infusion due to what i pointed out previously(also sometimes standard infusion beats quality for some reason)
Honestly deals too little damage. It doesn't have the range to be used properly and powerstance hammer isn't exactly great. Maybe against bad players you can get by with morningstar, but you won't be doing much with it even with the status effect bonus.
@@Chrightt The real problem is that the only truly "serious" meta build is a crouch-poking Colossal weapon with enough Poise to not get interrupted while doing it. Everything else is going to suck compared to that when you've banned the two mobility tool arts due to how easy it is to run away with them. If you can't outrange that or outdamage that, you're not going to compete.
Morning star isn't really that amazing for the status. The pierce attacks are actually the best thing going for it, allowing to take advantage of counter hits. This can definitely make a difference. The poke attacks are also better than others at applying pressure and chase people down.
@@Chrightt status effect is mostly for pve, but with the right build its thrusting counter hits do some great damage. The animations on the thrusts too are actually pretty good too. Damn and I thought the nox flowing hammer had pretty good reach for its weapon class. Marika's hammer seemed so much shorter. Ig I got baited by the weapon model which looks really short on Marika's hammer.
aha! I finally caught you! so you don't check all weapons unique attacks. morningstar's r1 6 is a unique attack. it's the same as cr1 though, but still you didn't mention it. I guess I'll make the unique attacks table myself... I'm still hoping I'm wrong and I can check it out somewhere, but I found nothing. it's just so tedious to make a table of 150 weapons (300 if you count checking for unique two handing attacks). and every weapon has a couple of combos, which you should all remember, because sometimes weapons have 1 unique attacks in between of a combo, like 3rd hit of 6. and there's still a bunch of solo attacks, like jr1, jr2, rr1, rr2, br1, cr1.. man fuuck this. but I kinda hope finding some really cool attack which no one noticed yet on some unknown weapon
You made a lot of mistakes in the movesets section. The running r2 of the Morningstar is also a thrust attack. In addition the Scepter of the All Knowing shares the moveset of the Morningstar so it also has thrusts on its running r2 and rolling attacks.
@@Chrightt Tbh I think the running r2 of the morningstar/scepter, plus its poke as a crouch attack makes these weapons better in pvp than you're giving them credit for.
@@dorkmoonblade4315 Let me tell you my experience when I was testing hammers for my upcoming build video. My first thought was: "piercing moveset + base bleed! This must be the best hope hammer has!" And then when I actually used it, it actually misses quite often because of the poor range. While you can poke indeed with crouching attack for example, you lose out poke damage versus any other poke weapon with less range. Therefore, the only moveset you really gain imo is the running heavy attack (still no clue how I missed it in the vid, sorry about that. I actually thought I included it). This is a good move indeed, but you sacrifice AR + range (which eats into other moves) for it. For example, light attacks don't hit consistently (which base hammer light attack is surprisingly good). Also, the bleed is largely irrelevant when not on occult/blood. That was what happened for me, so I decided to try something else and swap to another weapon as I don't think the power stance moveset is strong enough for hammers to shine either.
If you're at endgame PVE levels as I mentioned, quality will give you the highest AR. If you're at level 125~150, it is because your stat distribution is poor and not optimized.
Hammers in elden ring arent really satisfying tbh, i think they're the second worst weapon class after the flails I loved them in dark souls with their fast attack speed as long as you didn't whiff, in ds2 they had crazy strength scaling (pretty much like a faster, shorter version of greatclubs), in ds3 maces had access to the rare perseverance skill... In ER they're just unremarkable, in part due to low damage and poise damage but mostly for the linear, boring moveset The club moveset is one of the most fun but it's outshined by the iron cleaver which also has that r2
I do think it's worth mentioning that the Warpick doesn't actually deal Pierce damage. The stats page says it deals Strike damage, and I tested it on some miners (who are very weak to strike damage, and strong against Slash, Regular and Pierce damage types) and they took heavy damage, same as if I used another strike weapon. So not only does the Warpick have pathetic damage, and pathetic reach, it also doesn't even do the one thing that it should do, which is deal pierce damage. So it's a complete piece of shit and probably the worst weapon in the entire game.
The description hasnt been fixed but the warpick does do pierce damage properly now, maybe after 1.05 as a stealth change. But what is the point since you cant trade with the warpick, which has neither the speed, range or hyper armour to do so? The only way to make it work reliably is to use wild strike.
Varre's Bouquet is by far the worst weapon in the game. They should have at least make it proc bleed super fast. There are so many other weapons that can do this better plus they have actual damage, decent range and good movesets. It is 100% a meme weapon.
same goes for envoy, which is a dex weapon of all things... A lot of faith weapons in ER are actually just quality weapons with high faith requirement. Just why...
@@sturmmagnunstein1008 the envoys are weird unnatural automatons that pop out of nowhere when the current god's age is about to end. When you smack em, they bleed white, meaning they are artificially made, much like the albinaurics. And in the eyes of the golden order, such beings are faithless abominations. It is canon, it's in the lore.
@@jellydamgood same goes for the miquellan knight sword, serpeant weapons etc. I dont think its an intentional design, since they damage isnt even comparable to regular weapons of similar class using sacred or flame art infusion. I dont know about the envoy being faithless creatures, since they are still occupying the capital, playing their music endlessly. If anything that seems like loyalty.
@@idontknow-mf4bp they are theres literally nothing wrong with them, good spacing, good jumping attacks, good 2 hit, good poise damage, they can use most weaponarts and fit on almost any build. tell ne how thats bad
@@archie143 Keep in mind that Chrightt reviews everything from a 125 "optimized meta" perspective and pretty much discounts any weapon that isn't long enough to fight crouch-poking colossal weapons and won't be able to poise break before getting poked to death. That said, these videos are still useful just for the data; I'd take what Chrightt says about a weapon class in broad terms with a grain of salt though.

aha! I finally caught you! so you don't check all weapons unique attacks. morningstar's r1 6 is a unique attack. it's the same as cr1 though, but still you didn't mention it. I guess I'll make the unique attacks table myself... I'm still hoping I'm wrong and I can check it out somewhere, but I found nothing. it's just so tedious to make a table of 150 weapons (300 if you count checking for unique two handing attacks). and every weapon has a couple of combos, which you should all remember, because sometimes weapons have 1 unique attacks in between of a combo, like 3rd hit of 6. and there's still a bunch of solo attacks, like jr1, jr2, rr1, rr2, br1, cr1.. man fuuck this. but I kinda hope finding some really cool attack which no one noticed yet on some unknown weapon
fml I just read your comment. so I wonder if I can trust all your moveset checks in other vids, if I'll check the comments too?🤔
Bonks up!
You made a lot of mistakes in the movesets section. The running r2 of the Morningstar is also a thrust attack. In addition the Scepter of the All Knowing shares the moveset of the Morningstar so it also has thrusts on its running r2 and rolling attacks.
Added in pins.
This must be the best hope hammer has!"
And then when I actually used it, it actually misses quite often because of the poor range.
@@Chrightt Fair enough.
That Thumbnail tho
you're underestimating the moveset on the staff of the all-knowing
Why is it I get the highest AR with Quality on almost all weapons?
If you're at endgame PVE levels as I mentioned, quality will give you the highest AR. If you're at level 125~150, it is because your stat distribution is poor and not optimized.
Hammers in elden ring arent really satisfying tbh, i think they're the second worst weapon class after the flails
I loved them in dark souls with their fast attack speed as long as you didn't whiff, in ds2 they had crazy strength scaling (pretty much like a faster, shorter version of greatclubs), in ds3 maces had access to the rare perseverance skill...
In ER they're just unremarkable, in part due to low damage and poise damage but mostly for the linear, boring moveset
The club moveset is one of the most fun but it's outshined by the iron cleaver which also has that r2
You cannot convince me that Varré's Bouquet is supposed to be that bad. It has to be bugged somehow. I refuse to believe it.
Monke's Flamemace
damn guidion couldnt even get his weapon right
So, basically, the best hammer is the Hammer ? I'm shocked !
Marika's weapon being kinda shit with faith has to be intended man. More deepest lore stuff.
same goes for envoy, which is a dex weapon of all things...
@@jellydamgood i mean the enovys hammer.
@@sturmmagnunstein1008 That's just it. How can such faithless godless creatures wield a faith weapon?
@@jellydamgood same goes for the miquellan knight sword, serpeant weapons etc. I dont think its an intentional design, since they damage isnt even comparable to regular weapons of similar class using sacred or flame art infusion. I dont know about the envoy being faithless creatures, since they are still occupying the capital, playing their music endlessly. If anything that seems like loyalty.
About time man, Sick and tired of rewatching your vids. Maybe consider daily uploads
Maybe consider not demanding daily dopamine from an unpaid content creator

This game does not favor the embonkened ones. 😔
This game is the most incredible POS ever devised. I'm surprised humanity has devolved to such a low level that people actually enjoy this game.

wtf man, hammers are great in pvp, its just a straightsword that isnt dumb
Lmao i wish hammerswhere half decent
@@idontknow-mf4bp they are theres literally nothing wrong with them, good spacing, good jumping attacks, good 2 hit, good poise damage, they can use most weaponarts and fit on almost any build. tell ne how thats bad
@@archie143 They are slow and have poor range. That alone makes them bad
@@Space_Australian slow? have you ever seen a greatswprd?
@@archie143 Keep in mind that Chrightt reviews everything from a 125 "optimized meta" perspective and pretty much discounts any weapon that isn't long enough to fight crouch-poking colossal weapons and won't be able to poise break before getting poked to death. It's not a wrong way to view things, but it's pretty narrow. That said, these videos are still useful just for the data; I'd take what Chrightt says about a weapon class in broad terms with a grain of salt though.
