I saw recently a Lady used bubble wrap under her paper, then put through machine, honestly you will be amazed... it will cut out everytime!.. Love your helpful hints everytime!, Thank you for sharing...Gail Hastings Sydney Australia..xx
Massive thanks for this vid from 2021! I was literally on the brink of returning my new BigShot. I've been using it without an issue with frame dies for a few days, but when I got these intricate corner dies (very simialr to what you show in the video) they just wouldn't cut through in the middle of the design. I thought either the machine or the die was faulty! I even tried various quality papers, no luck. A bit of extra cardstock layer on top solved the problem perfectly - the shapes just pop out of the dies without effort. Cannot thank you enough. This vide should be on top of every cardmaking search list!!!!
I never thought to add a shim in the area that is not cutting well. Thank you! I’m just getting back to manuel die cutting after using the Cricut for so long. Your hints were very helpful!
Thank you for using the elegant ovals and the companion dies. i wasn't sure how to use them together and now I have some inspirations to create more beautiful cards. Love HFC!
Thanks for sharing this video with us. I love ❤️ Heartflet Creations products. And the molds you’ve come out with for shaping the flowers act,, are fantastic. It really helps make my flowers more beautiful. Thanks so much.
Awesome video, this is very helpful. Most people don't realize that they can add a paper shim on top of the die to help the die cutting machine add more pressure. That they don't NEED to have the metal shim. I just love watching your videos they are so helpful when using your stamps and dies. What I like mostly is that you show us how to manipulate the paper when making the flowers to make them look more real. I get more compliments than ever before on my cards, now that Ive adopted your techniques when making my flowers etc.. My friend Sue and I got to meet and take a picture with you at the convention this April in Collinsville IL. And you showed us how you make your poppy flowers. It was great to see first hand your technique on making them. You told us that your home store was about 5 1/2 hours from there, and I think we are going to take a road trip and come visit your store this summer sometime. Keep the awesome products coming. I can't wait to see what's new for next year!!!!
Thanks for this video Emma Lou. I've always used shims and waxed paper with my intricate dies but have struggled with those small areas that just don't quite seem to make it. I never thought about using just a small shim in the trouble area to help with that. Appreciate the tips! That oval die is so gorgeous!
thank you so much I have a beautiful intricate die that just won't cut very well so now with your help I can keep using it instead of throwing it out thanks for your help again.
Thanks for coming up with the oval die it truly complements the 1st one you came out with. I also turn my dies in the machine this helps with cutting those detailed dies. Thanks!!!!!
+Dorothy Mutafopulos Hi Dorothy, Thanks for the additional tip....totally missed mentioning that:) Have fun with the new oval die...releasing in 1 day:) Take care~Emma Lou
I try everything you mentioned with similar success. I have one tip that I found that works, too. After the die is almost cut all the way through, I turn it over and add the rubber embossing mat without any shims, and run it through. I almost always finishes the job.
Thank you because i have the same corner die and I don't use it much because it's so hard to cut. I did use a shim but on the outside of the plate. I'll try the shim on the inside right above the die and see how that works for me. Thank you so much for sharing!
I've just begun my die cutting/crafting journey and within days came across the problems you discussed. To say I was ready to chuck it all in would be an understatement. Watched your video and an raring to give it another go. Thanks for your great content and easy explanation.
Thanks for the video on using intricate dies. I knew about the pressure points of certain die cut machines, but didn't realize that such a thin sheet of paper would be so helpful. Looking forward to that die release. Thanks again.
Your videos are very interesting and knowledgeable. I found also if you slightly spritz the card stock before putting thru machine it always cuts first time!
EmmaLou Your clothing choices are amazing.....cards too...hahaha Wow, I really watch for what you are wearing to set my pace for the day.....huge smiles Fashionable clothes make fashionable cards....teehee
thanks Emma Lou, having exactly those problems you described..I'm a beginner die cutter although have been making cards for some years now. I was given an electric cut n boss last Christmas and tonight have been attempting die cutting! I am good to go now! cheers
Your videos are always so informative! I especially appreciate that they are well thought out and everything is clearly explained. Thank you for these great tips on die cutting.
Great tips. One thing I do if I have just a small area of the die that did not cut is to put a piece of tape right over that part of the die. It helps a lot.
I so appreciate all the suggestions and tips you have given us in this video. I have a doily die that looks beautiful, but I can't get the center to cut. I'll be giving it another try later today. it's so nice to have 2 different die sets that are designed to coordinate together, each a compliment to the other. More creative opportunities! Thanks for taking the time to make these instructional videos. Much appreciated!
Thank you so much for making this video I've been trying to make a gate fold card for my friends wedding with one of my intricate dies but have been having trouble getting the middle to cut properly after watching your video I tried your layering you showed and it worked thanks so much again
I love this new die! The "stitched" detail isn't visible until the last closeup of the oval option. I am a seamstress as well as a scrapbooker, so I love the opportunity to "merge" these skills!
Darlene Bruehl same here, I'm an avid embroider and the stitched borders just pop and make me happy. I never thought about the fact that I love all things sewing and can't get enough of that effect in my paper crafts
Thank you so much for sharing this with us...I do have some small intricate dies and I just don't use them because of the problems...will be trying this for sure...love your dies too...I also share this video on my FB....
Thanks for the tips. I've used them n they worked great. I too give my dies a little turn n that helps. I love the Tool n One n it does a great job removing the bits.
I want to get the oval dies. So pretty! I find that using waxed paper leaves a waxy film that comes off on your paper. I got the metal shim for intricate dies and it works beautifully.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your beautiful family. Thank you so much for this video with the Decorative Oval and the Eyelet Oval dies. They are so gorgeous!
I find using my EK powder tool over the die really helps with releasing the paper from the die, and it's cheaper than wax paper. It works really well on intricate dies.
I haven't worked with my wafer die again sense that last two days with them! Your u-tube suggestion i think will do the trick. It's just what you said it doesn't cut the center so I'm going to try your shims! Thanks so much for getting back with me! I'll give you an update when the wafer dies and I are up for a workout! Lol. Have a great day! Thanks again for helping! Nancy
Thanks for this video. I am pretty new to die cutting and your clear explanation will guide me when I am playing with some of my more intricate dies. Hugz, Anne
Thank you SO much for this tip. I have been very frustrated with some of my dies and I know that my crafting time will be more satisfying now. Blessings!
Thank you so much! We were having so much trouble with this exact problem...we were definately bad workmen blaming our tools...now...woohoo...nice clean cuts...thank you.
I use a Crossover machine it is 20 years old. I rarely have an issue. I like to put my dies face down so I can see where on the paper I'm using but the instructions say die, then paper. I don't want to cut my base plate. Would the die get hurt if I put the metal plate under the cutting side?
I really like your video and wish there were more like this. I notice you like your dies face down cutting side. I think it's more efficient. Do you emboss your dies too after die cut?
Hey Emma Lou, Do you have a video showing how to put the corners together to make a doily? I watched a demonstrator show it a couple years ago at a Scrapbook Show. I have trouble lining it up as you briefly showed in this video.
Thanks for asking how I have progressed with my wafer die cut outs! I haven't conquered them yet, but I don't plan on giving up either! Your suggestion were very helpful! I'm still having problems with the die cutting out the lines around the square and not in the center. Maybe it would help if I told you that I'm working on the wave die. It's such a pretty die. I finally ended up cutting the centers out by hand. The card turned out pretty! I have a whole lot of pieces that I actually used for sea weed on another card! Lol. You know the old saying! Some of your best work comes from mistakes that you found useful while covering up your bobo's! ! So in answer to your question, no I haven't conquered my problem, but I set a side the problem, till I'm ready to dive in again!!! I must say you have really been a big help understanding why there was a problem in the first place! Thanks for very much!!! Nancy
Hi Nancy, You're awesome:) I love how you persist and don't give up:) Hey, if it would be helpful, snap some photos of the problem areas and email them to support@heartfeltcreations.us and we can help troubleshoot. ~Emma Lou
Just wanted to give you an update! I DID IT!!!! I mastered the die, thanks to you! There was something in you u-tube that kept me grinding at me, every time I messed up! I have no clue what it was, maybe the whole u-tube!!! I kept repeating what you had said and I kept on cutting, changing my steps every time it didn't work out! Finally everything came together, and I cut a good one! I now have two successes thanks to you!!! I will be forever grateful for your soft spoken voice and kind words that kept me going! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Have a great day! Nancy
Just want to let you know that this video is so informative. I’ve tried this method with my Sizzix machine and it worked perfectly. I was about to give the die cut a negative review but this video saved me from doing it. Lol. Thank you!!!! Thank you!!!
Just found you.I will try using extra paper as shim as i have a few die which i am not pleased with.I use 300 gsm card stock.will this technique also cut using just paper shim? Thanks for your tuition x
Thanks for this video. You explained the problem perfectly and showed excellent solutions for making our dies work better. It always frustrates me when I see a beautiful die being bashed by a reviewer that just doesn't know how to make these intricate dies work. I have also seen reviews by people that are trying to use very old die cutting machines that were simply not designed to work with these intricate dies. Sometimes it's time to purchase a new machine. Thanks for thinking ahead and making a companion oval die set. I can't wait for it to hit the market.
Thank you Emma Lou for the advice and showing such beautiful cards. I find (this is just my opinion) that using a Metal Adaptor Plate helps me immensely when cutting out intricate dies. I have all the die cut machines except the Vagabond and a few others, but I have the New Spellbinders Platinum, The Big Shot, Cuttlebug, The Grand Calibur and 2 more... I guess it is time to get rid of all of them but 2 huh? lol but anyway, the metal adaptor die works perfect at least for me. I have seen many video's that tell us that wax paper will ruin our dies, so I don't do that anymore...but this is just my opinion...THANK YOU Emma Lou...
Thanks so much... Can you pls explain how to emboss bigger sheets without trimming them... With A2 folders... Or thin wafer dies... I'm sure there must be a way
Hey there, we don't have a video on that technique, but I did find one here: ua-cam.com/video/lu7mCVcTYiA/v-deo.html. Is that what you were looking for?
Thank you for sharing those techniques Emma Lou. May I also suggest rotating your die in your machine. Rotating it 90 degrees helps to get a better cut.. The Precision Base Plate by Sizzix is a must have for all of those intricate dies. It is made for the Sizzix Big Shot, Big Shot Plus and your Vagabond. They are pretty inexpensive. Have a blessed day!
Hey Linda, i add the wax paper in between the die blade and the cardstock, you can also see that demoed on this video: ua-cam.com/video/ZuuhGgnasDA/v-deo.html. Thank you for being part of our crafting family. ~Emma Lou
I have a big problem I just cut a die and I am having trouble trying to get some of the pieces out of my cut die and when I poke the hole it leave the pieces on the right side and I can’t get rid of them what can I do and your work is beautiful thanks
Sorry you're having some issues with your die...have you tried using was paper between cardstock and your die? If it's sticking extra hard, I've found that helps it slide out very easily...I typically use that wax paper piece multiple times.
Thank you another question I have is I got a metal die and it won’t go through my cuttlebug it just makes a horrible sound like it’s cracking it’s a frame die what can I do about this as I really want to use it but don’t want to break my cuttlebug thank you I have subscribed to your channel as I know you are going to be very helpful have a great day from hayley in New Zealand.
@@SilverArrowNZ Hi Hayley! Your country is so beautful:) Hmmm...I'm not sure what would be creating that....could you snap a short video with your phone and email it to support@heartfeltcreations.us....that would give us a visual to troubleshoot.
Thank you for helping me understand how to gently shim the problem areas.I guess you've seen that we're no longer encouraged to use waxed paper with dies.
I saw recently a Lady used bubble wrap under her paper, then put through machine, honestly you will be amazed... it will cut out everytime!.. Love your helpful hints everytime!, Thank you for sharing...Gail Hastings Sydney Australia..xx

I have loads of dies but have had problems with them not cutting properly. Will definitely try the paper shims. Many thanks

Thank you for this video. My dies were not cutting out properly and as a newbie I thought it was me. I did not know about shims. Problem solved.
Your videos are very interesting and knowledgeable. I found also if you slightly spritz the card stock before putting thru machine it always cuts first time!

Thank you for the tips on intricate dies. I will give them a try.
I want to get the oval dies. So pretty! I find that using waxed paper leaves a waxy film that comes off on your paper. I got the metal shim for intricate dies and it works beautifully.
Doris Cote do you use it in pllace of thin die adapter?
Good refresher
Thanks for the help to solve some of my frustrations.

Thank you for the extra help with the die cutting.
I find using my EK powder tool over the die really helps with releasing the paper from the die, and it's cheaper than wax paper. It works really well on intricate dies.
That is a great tip, thank you for sharing!
Very helpful. And I love the new companion die. Can't wait to get it in my hot little hands. :)have a blessed day.

Hey Chris, if it's a metal plate for precision die cutting, it won't hurt the die.
Thank you this was very helpful
Thanks this really helped me
Thank you for the tips! I was beginning to ask the same questions this was very helpful!
Thank you so much because I was about to give up on one of my dies. I love these products and now instructions too. Woo hoo.
I really like your video and wish there were more like this. I notice you like your dies face down cutting side. I think it's more efficient. Do you emboss your dies too after die cut?
Sometimes, it depends on the die design.
Hey Emma Lou, Do you have a video showing how to put the corners together to make a doily? I watched a demonstrator show it a couple years ago at a Scrapbook Show. I have trouble lining it up as you briefly showed in this video.

+Marla Owens Thanks for that suggestion Marla, very helpful! Take Care~Emma Lou
I don't like the precision plate because it damages your dies. This video gives a healthier method. Iam happy about the thinnness of the shims
Can I use the precision plate on my vagabond with the heartfelt dies?
Hi there, yes you can use the precision plates with our dies just like it is shown in this video: ua-cam.com/video/rwQ8Q0y5bjw/v-deo.html
Thank you. The video helped me. You mentioned using wax paper but I was not sure how. That would be helpful.
Hey Linda, i add the wax paper in between the die blade and the cardstock, you can also see that demoed on this video: ua-cam.com/video/ZuuhGgnasDA/v-deo.html. Thank you for being part of our crafting family. ~Emma Lou
Linda Marker you can use plastic bag from grocery store and it doesnt rub off on die or cardstock
Thank you. I’m off to “shim” my troublesome die! Ruth
I wanted to this they are so beautiful how can I get i get It
I have a big problem I just cut a die and I am having trouble trying to get some of the pieces out of my cut die and when I poke the hole it leave the pieces on the right side and I can’t get rid of them what can I do and your work is beautiful thanks
Please make a video on the gorgeous things that are behind you on the shelves! I love the lanterns! Are they in your collection?
Hi Sandra, Thank you for your suggestion! The cream lantern was a painted thrift store find and the one with the poppies was cut from a SVG file.
