WHO iS: Makena Kellerman
Today we caught up with Makena Kellerman
"Hi, I'm McKenna Kellerman. I'm 19 years old, and I race for the national team, specifically XCOS, which is Cross Country mountain biking, and some short track, but that's mainly the type of mountain biking I do.”
Rob: “Nice, nice. So, what led you to mountain biking?"
McKenna Kellerman: "I started off just being a dirt biker and riding with my dad, my brothers, and my whole family. Then, slowly in 8th grade, I joined my Nika team for the SoCal league, and I raced that. I just fell in love with it and did it all through high school. I was lucky enough to perform at one of the local US Pro Cup races, which led me to join the national team and do some national and international bike racing.
Rob: “Oh, nice. So, you're not just racing in the US; you're getting over to Europe and doing UCI events there?"
McKenna Kellerman: "Yeah, the whole end goal for the last couple of years has been to do some UCI Junior series races out there. This year, it's to do the whole U23 World Cup circuit and then hopefully every year get a little better, get on maybe a factory team, and then race in the 2028 Olympics. So, that's the ultimate goal, the 2028 Olympics, huh? Exactly, that's awesome.
Rob: “Well, we appreciate having you come up and catch up with us, having you out and catch up with us. But inquiring minds want to know too, what does it mean to be 'almost there'?"
McKenna Kellerman: "Honestly, it's just to go out and have fun. I find so much joy in riding bikes and just being out there and meeting so many amazing and great people in the community. So, I just really want to see how far my biking takes me, even if it's not racing, and just having fun and finding the flow."
