Oh man! I just watched the ancient Mt. Whitney video because I was jonesing for a MA vid. Woohoo! And my invite to Northern Norway still stands, Danny.
Incredibly beautiful! My palms were sweating watching you climb Danny, the camera angles were vertigo-inducing 😂. Absolutely amazing. I’ve loved seeing Tyson in these ❤ Thanks for another great video!
It always scares the crap out of me coming across someone free soloing a hard via ferrata route, but I guess there are a few guys like you in the world, congrats on the achievement...
meh...it's possible to get a 2 factor fall on that and those looks to be dyneema runners. You'd probably have to be right up at a cable attachment point and have no give on the cable. But yeah I'd probably at least got for a sewn lanyard with some dynamic properties or maybe a connect adjust...but then how would you fit all those GoPro batteries into that tiny distance pack? Probably could have used some Valhalla phosphate meat at the summit to power the way down!
Yeah, those slings have snapped on shorter falls than one would have here. Could have just left them away entirely, I think. I have faith in Danny's climbing skills, but I hope nobody takes this as an example.
great vid that via ferrata looks awesome! also Tyson was awesome on survivor! didnt realize that was him until he did the check in. outwit outlast outslay!
Hi, nice vid as usual. I watch them all, way for me to see US mountains in good quality, nicely shot and edited, plus dry humour and a dumb mountain action here and there, similar to how we do it here in Poland as well heh. Btw one day when in Europe, you could visit Tatry Mountains in Poland/Slovakia. Route example, start in Morskie Oko, by trail (or not heh) to Rysy peak for higest in Poland, from sumit through Żabi Koń for a nice legendary ridge and further thrugh Wołowa ridge to Mięguszowieckie peaks for some classic summits, and you can still climb Mnich on the way down heh.. Next day or sth, on Slovak side go the Martin's route or Tatarka to Gerlach for highest in Tatry and whole Carpathian mountains. Then maybe, if in love already, the magnificient Widły ridge from Kieżmarski to Łomnica or Kończysta ridge, there's a lot, it's a small range coverage - wise but really feisty and revered here between Polacks, Slovaks, Czechs and Hungarians. Anyway it's all in details on summitpost for example. Other countries, Slovenia has the beautiful Julian Alps, Romania the really wild, proper Dracula style part of Carpathians, Montenegro/ Albania the also feisty Accursed Mountains, Greece Olympus ofc that's one known mountain heh.
If you don't fall, you don't need the kit so just don't fall. For this one I guess I would have brought the full kit as well, especially having the option to rest should be nice on something that demanding. Everything up to C I do without any kit. People with it don't want to fall, I just really really don't want to fall.
dyneema slings take about one meter of falling to break them. if you would have slipped at pretty much any point of the via verrata you would be dead. use real protection or go without any and know your limits
i kinda thought tyson would be filming his way up as well and we would see what is happening on both sides. this video should have been longer! it is so good, i want more!
USING A SLING + CARABINEER LIKE THIS FROM YOUR HARNESS ON A VIA FERRATA IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND CAN EASILY BREAK AND KILL YOU OR BREAK YOUR BACK. Long story short, those slings are not meant to absorb shocks and a fall where you are slightly above where you have clipped into the metal cabling could break it. Also putting a knot in the sling reduces it's overall strength of the sling by something like 40 or 60 percent, so it could break even easier on a fall. I'm an avid watcher of MA and adore your content, pretty pls use real via ferrata kit or just free solo it, using gear which probably won't save you in a proper fall can give you false confidence and lead to falling to your death
You don't have gear that will ensure you live but are just injured... You have gear that can literally kill you. Falling even a short distance on dyneema slings is a terrible idea. There's a reason Via Ferrata kit exists.
"...stomped it to death, and rocked its bones..." You guys are the best. Now, SMASH that "Like" button and HIT the notification bell and...or not. Just keep making awesome videos guys. And stay safe.
Ferrata higher than C/D are not interesting for me anymore. because up to that point you can freeclimb most of it on the rock. At a higher grade you have to pull on the cable which isn't fun at all then
Looked fun! Those long C/D sections get exhausting. But it looks like you missed the most difficult part by taking the ladder (5:21). I'm sure I would have done the same.
sorry - might be missing the point here but i thought the point of via ferrata was you try to use the rock and the cable is just the safety line - that is certainly the approach i've always taken. ladders are one thing, but just hauling yourself up the cable - think you might of rather missed the fun of the climb. but we all have our ways. atb
No via ferratas on the Isle of Skye, just a teensy little traverse, finish by lunchtime. Make great YT, your theme tune played on bag pipes. The Cuillins are calling...
If you fall on a via ferrata with that equipment, you would not be able to upload anymore. If you are extremely lucky you will end up like a vegetable, but you will probably end up dead. In my opinion its fine if you want to do this, but by uploading it you might encourage one or more people to replicate what you do... Please take this into consideration. It would be cool if you would lead by example when it comes to safety.
No, plenty of places to fall to your death on the Matterhorn unless you have a partner and a rope with gear to set protection. Plus you need to do a few rappels and need to be stable in very exposed sections. The Matterhorn is not a via ferrata, only some few sections have fixed ropes. The ropes are 6 cm in diameter. You also need crampons and ice axe and know how to use them (last 150m to the summit).
@@cowymtber Twice by two different routes, both decending via the Hornli. Worth doing but don't underestimate the overall effort required even though the Hornli is technically easy. Lightening is also a risk in the afternoon. Go for it, but prepare well and you will be fine.
@@domesticterrorist483 From the vids, it looked like those ropes go all the way up, at least to the last approach in the snow. Are you a guide? Do you know one that you could recommend?
Maybe it's a good idea to search for that old video of via ferrata falls on slings only ( Via Ferrata Accidents - here is what happens to 80kg of dead weight being dropped). That was pretty dangerous what you did out there!(and IMO you should reconsider posting this.)
I had no idea he wasn't using a via ferrata set. This is honestly pretty fucking stupid. He would've broken his back if he had fallen. Pretty sure Loen Active (the company responsible for the route) isn't really happy with this type of behaviour either.
Agree with the comments about using either the correct via ferrata harness or just free-climb the route ... take a look at this video testing various sling/harness combinations using 80kg load and a 4m fall m.ua-cam.com/video/jOzhOs9SAws/v-deo.html
"The Most Difficult Via Ferrata in Europe" - had you turned left and done the E/F section. But you turned right. There are tons of D grade Via ferratas in the Alps. But you knew that didn`t you?
Numerous high quality Via Ferrata lanyards use aluminium carabiners. Not a safety issue, but a durability one, unless you decide to zip line on the carabiner itself. Him using slings is the safety issue here.
Europe is where visitors may expect to find dangerous routes have fixed ladders, steel cables, and other hard points to rig. Stupidity can overcome all protection with respect to Ragnarok.
And it does but on a different difficulty scale (Alpine scale). Via ferrata ratings go from A to F (or G?), where A is the easiest and F is the hardest
@@Blato_ I France Via Ferratas have the same rating system, F (facile) to ED (Extreme Difficile). I would rate this one as Difficile, maybe Tres Difficile, hard to judge. But it doesn't look like the hardest in the world, by far. It still looks like a lot of fun! BTW, Danny, I think you have a lot of comments incoming on your gear. That was very dangerous, what you did there with your gear choice! Was is only two slings and biners, or was there at least a screamer in between?
Whatever about risking yourself using knotted dyneema slings, consider how you might encourage others to do the same. If you're doing that, at least point out to viewers what risk you're taking and how stupid many would consider it.
