  • 5,000+ cherry tomatoes/year from an IBC aquaponics system
The Auburn University School of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Aquatic Sciences maintains this small greenhouse to demonstrate several small scale aquaponics set ups. It includes a 55 gallon tabletop system, IBC tote system, 1000 gallon deep water raft RAS and a vertical tower aquaponics set up. These systems can be used to teach a variety of STEM academic subjects as well as provide food for a family or classroom.
Step by step instructions for building the IBC aquaponics system are in the links below. We also have written and video step by step instructions for building the tabletop aquaponics system.

I like the desktop version you have. Maybe something I may try in my greenhouse over the winter.

That particular system actually grew some tomatoes as well as a pile of chives. The nice part about the chives is you can cut them back and they keep growing.

We do not have a biofloc class yet. Maybe that could be Aquaponics 201. There is a good book on the subject by Yoram Avnimelech called Biofloc Technology. The book is available directly from the World Aquaculture Society (a little cheaper than other places) was.org/shopping/was-books
