I've had HoI3 since release, purchasing each DLC as they were available. I never played though until recently with the Black Ice mod. I'm glad to see these modern tutorials and plan on watching them all.
I still get a lot of enjoyment out of the game. There are a few other tutorials out there of course. My goal here is to condense years and years worth of playing into a guide. Hope it's helpful :)
I'm shocked that there's an upload for this game 3 months ago, let alone an upload that happens to be a much needed guide. I enjoy hoi4 a lot, but I have all the dlc for 3 so I kinda want to get good at that at some point, and a lot of people seem to be hoi3 purists so I assume there's reason for it. Edit: And a guide that's great too? Has the sun collapsed or something? Good job with these!

Well, damn, I just started playing this game (no mods yet, just vanilla, 'cuz I think Black Ice would kill me) and I picked the Soviets over France because I feared France would've been nerfed like it was in HoI4. Oh, well!
When I do my Order of Battle tutorial I will probably use the Soviet Union as an example. It's potentially a lot of micromanagement (but also a lot of fun). France is like mini-Soviet Union. Smaller front, less divisions but similar strategy.
I remember playing HOI2 without too many issues back when I was 11 or 12 years old. Looking back now, I have absolutely no idea how, since these games are so complicated. I've only been able to play a few minutes of HOI3 as an adult, since it's just too complicated.
I am burned out with HOI 4 (several thousand hours), so I am getting into HOI 3. I played it years ago, but I never really mastered it in the slightest. I just finished your first episode.., WOW! If only this was available when I played years ago!!! I am going to watch all of yours because I can tell you are the master at tutorials for this. If you are still around, I have a question. Is it possible to keep Netherlands neutral for a while (for their oil) by not invading them and using some political stuff? Or is it predestined that as soon as you invade Belgium/France, the Netherlands jumps in?
There are some stuff I agree in HoI 4 more than HoI 3. Like, the fact that you can send half-trained conscripts to the front without waiting a month :P
Been wanting to Learn H0f4 But had no Manual, found that HOfI3 does have a Manual availablefor download on Staen PDF maybe now this Manual can show aspects of the games over all Game play "Hopefully" i sure do hope. Also i like too Thank Mr.Rob's red Hot Spot for taking the time and effort to put together this wonderful Video tutorial for all thas intrested i for one know these video may not seen difficult to put together i know it can be long hard work cutting and splicing the entre video or videos this person record it just to share and show folks that Mare basics of this game well Thank you Sir i really do Appreciate this.
Hi, This is a game ive always wanted to learn so I got it on steam with all the dlc. How do I know if all the dlc are installed, when I open the game and go to custom it shows me Hol3 v 3.05 UBYY. In scenarios it starts at Desert fox and ends at scenario Downfall. Only 7 scenarios, it that all the dlc, just need a little help with how to play the dlcs. Thanks, by the way your videos are a great help for beginners like myself, so thank you for posting them.
I wonder what it is about Germany being the most common country to play as. There are very few wars where one side of the other could truly be considered "the bad guys", but WW2 is most definitely one of them (which says far more about the axis than it does about the allies, but still).
I think for many players, Germany is fun because they are the perpetrators of the war. Playing as Germany means _you_ decide when the conflict starts and, especially early on, you determine the course of the war. Allied countries or even lesser axis ones kind of have to react to what Germany does. Oh and then there are some extreme right wing nuts who want to live out their fantasies through a video game...
this i don't understand....why 1936? and why only 12 years of gameplay?i was under the impression playing hoi4 that all previous hoi games were for an earlier time period, but all of them start in 36/39 and ends in 48....
I have not yet! I certainly will at some point. BlackICE has evolved a lot over the years, and from what I understand, BlackerICE is kind of a "fork" off of BICE that emphasizes different mechanics.
I've been playing this game for 1 month already and I really enjoy it, but when I watch HOI 3 videos on youtube, all the players have that panel on the right side of the screen and other features which I don't have in my game, is this some kind of mod ?
@@BYRDE1917 A DLC is basically a paid update. DLC stands for downloadable content, and you'll notice a lot of paradox's grand strategy games have them. The newer games have more of them that you can mix and match, but the older ones tend to have fewer but they're more mandatory since the games didn't receive free updates alongside the dlc releases. I'd get the dlcs for this game if you plan on playing it, though you can get a feel for if you want to spend the money by playing the base game.

Looking to get into wargaming, is this a good starting point? Or should pick something simple and work up from there. Also want to get into GG War in the titles but that's too much for beginner.
If you don't already own HOI3, it's definitely worth paying the bargain price for it on Steam. It's one of the most comprehensive WW2 games ever made in terms of wargaming and grand strategy. Certainly not "for beginners", but with a little bit of patience it's not particularly hard to get into either. If you do go for HOI3, a couple things I'd suggest: 1) pick a major country for your first run. 2) don't get stuck on the idea of winning the war or the game. Losing as a semi-historical Italy is interesting and also will teach you lots about how to play better.

i like hoi4 more dont get me wrong i think hoi3 is good two its just that the fighting mechanics seem a bit too weird for me like the units and things like submaries being useless and the tech tree not that good lookig in summary the game is good but the models are werid they just really bug me
You move your mouse away way too fast. By the time i even get a chance to look at what your pointing at your already off whipping your pointer mouse around as fast as you think for goodness sakes. Slow down with the mouse so people can have a chance to actually process what your showing.
There are a number of mods that allow you to play HOI3 in later time periods and alternate history. Check on the Paradox forums in the modding subforum for the game.
There must be a 1 year graduation degree of Hearts of Iron.

Possibly. Lend lease, expeditionary forces and production licenses are a bit buggy and weird in HOI3

You mentioned BlackICE, but have you tried BlackerICE? Believe it is made by one of the original makers of BlackIce.

Do you have all the DLCs (I wouldn't play without them)? The outliner at the top right also might be minimized.
