Vaccine Hesitancy and Misinformation: Sources and Solutions

- Dickey Center 40th Anniversary Event!
Vaccines are rightly heralded as a leading public health achievement; but their potential is currently under threat. Fear, misinformation, and political polarization are stoking vaccine hesitancy and eroding vaccination rates, with grave consequences. Polio has been detected in the U.S. for the first time in a decade; unvaccinated individuals continue to die of COVID-19 at high rates; and measles outbreaks are now common recurrences in high-income countries due to pockets of vaccine resistance. How can society stem the tide and shore up vaccine confidence?
Join our panel of experts as they dissect the susceptibility to vaccine-related misinformation in the US and beyond and explore evidence-based approaches to fighting back.

Unbelievable panel is right. I don't believe a word they say!
We are way past the notion of "hesitancy".
It's now GFYS! (big difference)
VAX UP PLAGUE RAT!
💯
not even GFYS now. It's literally go 6 feet deep.
You should first address your own misinformation, you were saying in the beginning that if you get this poison you won't catch covid
Vaccine hesitancy or vaccine coercion ? Which one is it ?
Hesitancy, skepticism, discrimination, discernment are my superpowers.
Hesitancy isn't a super power. It's a polite description of stupid decisions arising from ignorance. So is ignorance your super power?

@@jamesmason2228 "hesitating" gives time for critical thought and data/ literature reading and assessment.
When one is hesitant it may be a kneejerk emotional reaction (not always to be discounted as these have saved many lives in human history), but it may equally be a rational response to allow critical thought & the academic assement of new material with possible profound implications.
@@CL-he4jz Context matters. In this context? "hesitancy" is a very specific term. It even has a WP page, "vaccine hesitancy". It doesn't apply to someone who heard about the vaccine today and is waiting until they can discuss it with their MD at a telehealth conference next week. It's the people who - seemingly - have been given the information to make a good decision yet are apparently making a very stupid one. As I noted previously - it's a polite term for morons.

They really got together to waste an hour and a hour of their lives for this?
I bet they got paid, one way or another.
Stupid about lucre they are not.
interesting that NHS says in advice on this video " vaccs are best way to prevent infectious disease"... seeing as definition of vaccine was altered for these. now states they boost immunity against/ rather than " prevent" .
These people are today's witch hunters. They are simply incapable of stop and think imposing untested products made by CRIMINALS may not be the right path
I’m swine flu vaccine damage! Good luck to all those that have suffered and died! ❤️🍀❤️
Apparently this brilliant panel has never heard of the Nuremberg code.
Apparently, you're an antivaxxer that thinks they have something intelligent to offer.
Its coming out. I would like to see the day these hacks running for their lives.
and now they are running Plandemic 2.0 lol. It will never end as long as they breath.

@@basedboomer5912 "A Second Opinion" is what woke up smooth brains. Very useful for the brainwashed "conservatives" who think they are informed by controlled opposition networks like Fox and News Max
i was left in disbelief, shocked and puzzled how 6 seemingly intelligent adults could say what i heard, and not one of them spoke about adverse events, all they spoke about was how to get more people on board with vaccination, which had a very dark and cruel undertone, because why weren't risks assessed in this presentation? they weren't being rational at all
The fact that this cannot be sold as preventing disease in the community -- and that the initial belief that it did was deeply misleading and gave people a false sense of security which could have harmed others as well as themselves -- makes this policy unconscionable. It is a breach of ethics.
The solution is to stop lying to the people about these "products". Until that happens, most of us who are 'awake' will never trust anything you say again
@@samvimes9086How would you even know they are telling the truth after past 3+ years? Simply you wouldn't.
@MojKanal-cz1iz It's no longer that difficult. See what the ministries of health of other countries are saying, and on what basis. The NIH maintains a free library of peer-reviewed articles from leading medical journals. Learn to use it, and to know the true scope and limits of your ability to understand the articles.

Lol. They want a solution for "hesitation", like they have a problem with your second thoughts. You can't have a solution for my hesitation. You can't do anything about it. It's my freaking right. Take a seat.

Here is a suggestion, make vaccine makers liable, end of hesitancy, period.
Not vaxxed and never been sick.
And that proves...literally nothing
@@jackjohnson4386 If accurate, it tells us what is possible, which could lead to generating appropriate hypotheses for systematic, scientific studies.
It does not tell us what is usual or rare, common or uncommon, predictable or highly sporadic, if that's what you mean. True enough. And?
@@l.w.paradis2108
No it literally tells us nothing. First of all, we know nothing of his age, medical history, or what exactly he means by "never been sick". It's a vague claim at best.
Second, even if we did know all that, he is one person. Yeah, I suppose one person's experience can tell us "what is possible", but it's quite obvious that it's possible to not get a vaccine and not get sick. No one is arguing with that.
Third, I'd argue that his statement is actually harmful, whether it's true or not. It apparently deludes people like you into thinking they can glean information from one person's experiences rather than being rigorous and looking for real data.
@jackjohnson4386 I have to agree with your first point to an extent, and with your last point, but the last point is true because people do not learn quantitative reasoning in school. They need to. Actually, to be rigorous, only a bona fide case study tells us what is possible, but case studies are done based on reports to clinicians, or to VAERS, or on surveys, etc. So we all start there -- with self-reporting, and not necessarily when seeking treatment for an illness (which usually increases the credibility of the report).
Anyone who says to "ignore anecdotes" has no idea what they are talking about. It's a slogan now, and a meaningless label. Do you ignore posts about deaths from COVID, or consider them misinformation? I don't, and I bet that you don't, either.
@@jackjohnson4386 "People like me?" Do I sound like I lack scientific and mathematical sophistication?
Or are you just mad at anyone who critiques your logic? 🤣
Its a failure everyone knows it.
Well, if you want it to prevent disease safely, then yes. If the goal was to lower costs by reducing hospitalization, and make money for investors, I'd say it was a success.
