Tom, I was 15 years old when EPCOT Center opened. I soooo wanted to go & watched the TV special with Danny Kaye & Co. It would be 2002 before I actually got to go. While a different Epcot I was still awe inspired by it's beauty & uniqueness. It Is ALWAYS the 1st park I visit, following MK & AK. So cool that "park hopper" was a THING in 1982!!!!
I was there on opening day and still have one of those special tickets- unused in the silver envelope! I remember how blown away we were at the time. The tech along with the advanced ride systems were amazing. Touch screens... In 1982! And overall the shear size and the fact that so much was ready and completed. We actually went in the night before as we were staying at the Contemporary Resort (they were still planting flowers!). The monorail ride over, through the trees, and then the turn and seeing Spaceship Earth all lite up. Unbelievable.
Thanks for bringing this series for all of us to enjoy always amazing. Your teams knowledge is unbelievable. Tom yourself and your team bring back so many great memories.
I am excited to enter EPCOT era! I think I was the only 6 year old child in the 80s who if asked would have proudly told anyone EPCOT was my favorite park.
I was there on Day 2 of Epcot Center’s opening. Driving by on I-4 with my 11-year-old son and thought oh what the heck, let’s see if we can get in. We spent 30 minutes stuck on Spaceship Earth, I recall. Since then, I calculate I’ve visited Epcot more than 300 times.
I’m not sure what is still in Spaceship Earth from its older versions, especially from all the way back at the beginning, but when I rode through it at the beginning of this year you do really get the vibe there’s a lot still sitting there in the darkness. Like sometimes you’ll take a curve and you’re able to see shapes against light sources that don’t look like just walls. Skeeved me out lmao Ditto for the beginning of the Land boat ride- when you’re going past the animatronic farm.
Funniest thing about the america pavillian attraction, Disney already had someone, that they had a lot of audio of that they could edit-who would represent the modern era Who could stand shoulder to shoulder with Twain and Franklin. Walt himself.
Is it true that you can’t park at any of the Monorail resorts if you’re not staying there or have a dining reservation? We live nearby and would go and park at the Poly, walk the grounds, then get on the Monorail and check out the GF and the Contemporary. Haven’t done that since before Covid but was looking forward to doing that after being fully vaccinated. If true it is truly a shame.
I really miss that version of Spaceship Earth. I think the space station and astronauts should have been kept but should really be put back on now with our travel back to the Moon and Mars. Elon, are you hearing me? Be a sponsor.
Went in 83, the first version of EPCOT will always be the best.
Love learning about the history of Disney world!!

2:57 CORALLLLLLLLLL
Year I was born and Epcot made its debut.
Back when EPCOT was the best theme park in Central Florida. Now it's nothing more than just another kiddy park.
This was a great episode of this series. Is Tom vs. Josh over? It has been 3 weeks since the last episode. I enjoyed that show too!
Fav as a kid was Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit. CHA CHA CHA!
Epcot is very different today…
