I am almost glad that this show did not get its heart ripped out by the critics upon opening, pun intended. Otherwise, I feel that this show would be DOA in this historically competitive season. Side note: I saw Gettin' the Band Back Together a few days after it opened for my birthday, and it was a 'fun' show. Not the greatest nor worst musical I've seen on Broadway, but it got plenty of laughs from the audiences and some chuckles from me. 'Fun' being in quotes considering its cliche story, music, and characters.

As a boomer , I really enjoyed the performance as a fun presentation with Huey Lewis music adapted to the show. Unlike &Juliet and Moulin Rouge that are all jukebox songs jammed into the show, the music was rearranged to fit The Heart of Rock & Roll with the exception of the Power of Love, which seemed out of place.
MacKenzie Kurtz as Cassandra really shines in this show as she did as a recent Glinda in Wicked.
IMO, the dream sequence alone is worth the price of admission.
