Flying Shark / Hishouzame (Arcade) - 3-ALL Clear 2.4 Million
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- Old replay from 2014.
Hishouzame is probably one of the most influential games out there when it comes to shmups. This game laid a lot of the foundation for shmups as we know them today. It also has a very rad soundtrack.
Hishouzame is an old Toaplan game, which means the overal design is lots of aimed sniper tanks that shoot sparse, but fast bullets. The game is not terribly difficult though and checkpoint recovery is pretty forgiving. You can still get pretty far without strictly memorizing everything.
This was part of a shmup tournament back then. Only the first two loops counted, so I checkpoint-milked the final boss a bunch for huge amounts of score. After that I finished another loop lol.
The game loops infinitely but it stops getting harder somewhere in loop 3. If you really sat down for it, you could probably easily keep playing this forever.
One thing to be careful about in this game is the shot limit. You can only have a certain number of shots on-screen at a time. Because of this, you might not be able to shoot when in a pinch. To deal with this, it's better to have a separate button for a somewhat lower autofire rate. I had the autofire set to 10 in Mame for normal play and 1 for pointblanking.
Extend items are completely random as far as I know. Not that you'd be hurting for extends either way.

One of my favourite games ever. Definitely my favourite shoot-em-up. It was like a great Margerita pizza -- just the essentials, but so delicious
How would you say Capcom's 1942 compares to this?
@@Lee_1971 this is way better. 1942 is quite primitive
Yes out of all the games I've everrr come across this one has stuck out to me over the years...
Bravo! Excellent comparison! I felt the same when playing this at the arcade back in 87, solid and essential!
Can we take a moment to appreciate that this massive destroyer navigates faster than a flying plane? 😅
I fondly remember playing this game at a restaurant in Wisconsin while on vacation with my family in the early 2000s, drove me nuts trying to remember the name of this game for years, finally figured it out today thanks to somebody on Reddit. I sucked at this game but it was pretty fun. It blows my mind that this came out in the 80s as it looks like it could've come out in the 90s.
When you played this game, it may have been almost 20 years old.. I watch these replays because its simple elegance and memorable tunes are so nostalgic for me. The 80s and 90s were probably the best times for these arcade machines, when the arcades were a social venue where teens and twentysomethings could hang out in a non judgemental environment. Those arcades have mostly gone the way of the video rental stores, all in the name of "progress" and greater on demand convenience, but we lost something in return: the ability to interact with others in person, enjoying a shared hobby or interest. I still believe these games can be experienced with friends and family. Done right, they can bring humans together..
@@ozymandias1758 I do like convenience but it is depressing to see more and more places near me getting rid of their arcade and pinball machines, I fondly remember having a birthday party at my local Pizza Hut and they had some great arcade games like Bust-A-Move and Sunset Riders and my local Brunswick Zone had some killer pinball tables like Monster Bash. I miss those.
The serenity I used to feel while beating this game; the music, the flow of the game, the speed. My only gripe was that it didn't have more levels.
And I know you can get emulators, but I'd love to be able to get my hands on a real arcade cabinet of this.
In the mid 90s we were in Scarborough, a seaside town in England, and an arcade was selling one for £80. My wife would NOT let me buy it. Never have forgiven her for that ... And I even mentioned it when we got divorced after 27 years!
I finished it in 1988 at age 13 in Italy. I played for 6 hours starting again 9 times and collecting 9 lives. Score 7650000. Unfortunately the bar closed and I could not continue.
your 45 now.
i know I'm quite randomly asking but does anyone know of a good website to stream new movies online?
@Milo Roland Definitely, have been using flixzone for years myself =)
@Milo Roland thank you, I signed up and it seems like a nice service =) I appreciate it !
@Alessandro Josue happy to help xD
My grandpa had this arcade in his basement I’d always play it. His house later burned down in the california fires.
"What are we hovering around over here for? No one's gonna get this deep into our territory."
"Yeah, this is kinda boring. Hey, why don't we go bomb the snot outta that nearby airfield?"
"No way, dude. Waste of ammo. No one's gonna use that anymore!"
"Hey wait, what's that blue plane doing?"
"Looks like he landed to refuel, sir."
"Well, we'll show him. Here he comes! Look scary, boys!"
"I'll fly in a slow circle! That always works."
"OMG LOOK HOW MANY MISSILES HE CAN..." *transmission terminated*
This game required patience. I'd spend hours in the bowling alley on 1 quarter. Such memories!
Thank you, what memories of those years. I spent years playing it.
Played this to death at the local pizza joint back in the day, as Sky Shark. Same game, though. You could pile on some amazing bullet spreads in this if you got enough specials. I loved the chirping trills when they'd blast apart a destructive building.
14million was my high score. Played for over 12hours standing. Can't believe I stood that long and never used the toilet. Lol. I played this game in 1989 at a ten pin bowling place. I was 15yrs old :)
wowwww!!!
Impossible
@@gwynbleidd8863 it's possible dude. The game keeps repeating the same stages cycles. Anyone can do it
Bullshit
@@anonym1558 lol 🤣 are you jealous. What's your score? Your bum lol.
This game is easy to play. It just keeps on repeating the same levels
Amazing game amazing. My high score vas 11 million points, and i played more then 6-7 hours. My mom come in the bar and I must to stop hahahah. I was 14 year old in 1992.
Cool 👍
F shark and twin hawk were my two fave arcade games ❤️
This such a cool game. I remember seeing it in my childhood but only tried it 10 years ago in emulator. I can hardly complete the first level but it's still fun 😅
yeah I played this on vacation ages ago, couldn't get past the first level but it was fun.
Nice! At first, I was like "he's stuck in a checkpoint hell", then I realized you must've milked the last boss. Should read the description before watching next time. I love this game and I agree the soundtrack is amazing. Hence the arrange version of it in Zenohell. ;)
Insanely difficult to build power ups back when you die … your patience is 100% … I used to quit when 1st life lost …. !
Hey... At 57:21 , Don't shoot the second incoming train, until you pick the bomb at the third wagon of the first train. Shoot the first train, pick the bomb, and then shoot the next incoming train and you will get another bomb in the second train. If you see the bomb in the first train, and destroy the second train before picking the first bomb, no bomb will appear in the second incoming train. You did It correctly at 10:08
Great Effort!!! I feel like I'm playing I knew a guy down at the shops who was a master at it... lol. You played like him. All about memory...
This was the first arcade game in my town in 1985,
i liked when i could use just few marks and play loong games.
About "sitting down forever" the unofficial WR for the game (100,000,000+a by JIN.K) took 42 hours to be accomplished.
Sapphire Densetsu No autofire, too.
I have the inp file, if anyone is fool enough to want such a thing.
Sapphire Densetsu *raises hand* I've got an idea for a stream...
Really and I thought 14million my high score was good. Lol. Played for over 12hours standing. Can't believe I stood that long and never used the toilet. Lol. I played this game in 1989 at a ten pin bowling place. I was 15yrs old :)
Lol. I wander how many breaks he had. Lol. I played for 12hrs or more straight. Standing. No toilet break. Lol. Well I was young 15yrs old in 1989
this game kicks my butt every time
Played this one on the 48k when I was a kid.
I want a console with 20 of this best shooters.
But the friendly runways are right in the middle of enemy territory!
Why isn't this game available on the PS4 and Switch via Arcade Archives?
It's coming to Switch soon, apparently.
For reasons of owning the rights to Toaplan games being an absolute mess
But one of their composers has the rights to almost all their games now and most of their games (this included!) are getting ported to modern consoles by M2.
@@TromaDogg woot
To guy playing. If you would have survived does Gane keep going til you die or is there a killscreen ?
Tried exactly 57 times so far from the checkpoint with the last boss (flying fortress). Simply, cannot, beat it. Either he toasts me, or his escort, or the very last air armada + massed ground support. Just can't make that last run in one go. "Die once or you're screwed" was invented with this game, I swear. At least for the 99,99% of us.
Why would you do that when #GTAV & #RDR2 now exist?
@@goatlps Because he prefers the classics, not everyone wants to play GTA V or RDR 2. Those 2 Rockstar games require little to zero skill, games like Flying Shark demand patience and practice to get good at them.
Good run
My dad had one but it was a old arkade machine.
Is the audio available as a separate file?
Can you rotate the video thru 90°?
Thought you were doomed at 1.5M

Last tune ace...
Por este juego era que cuando me mandaban a comprar 200 pesos de pan, yo compraba 180 😅
Solid shoot up...but I don't think the flashing shadow is needed under the plane..very annoying.. definitely I hear vibes of truxton..the later spiritual successor ☺️
sorry how can I get this beautiful retro game I love it please help me
Get a pandora box. Like £150 online. 2000 plus games

outro jogo que eu passava hs ,era o flwers , jogo infinito
Where you using any cheats and if yes which ones?
I played no cheats wen I got 14million score. Played for over 12hrs
Eu jogava demais esse jogo, mais tem outro jogo muito massa chamado slap fight depois olhem aí.
What the hell, truxton rip off! Both in music, game play and how the enemies become glowing craters on the ground after you shoot them. Toeplan made both so maybe no one should be surprised.
Kapo
That explosion sound is pretty annoying.
"probably one of the most influential games" - so influential that 1942 ripped it off - 3 years before, LOL.
"Influential" meaning it inspired other games that followed it, especially 1990's Raiden. Even that game's soundtrack takes nods from this game's soundtrack.
Yeah, 1942’s cardboard gameplay didn’t become the spine of the genre mate
@@drivelikej9962 Trufax, there's a reason most shmups until Toaplan came along were Xevious and Space Invaders clones. 1942 is the Street Fighter 1 of vertical shmups
