Hi Rob, Little America is a truck stop with motel, camping, restaurants, etc. There's two -- that one, and the other near Cheyenne. I wonder if they're drilling north of there?
We will pray for Pacific Palisades and the area around it like around the Getty Museum and the canyons. The aboriginal people got out of the way of wildfires. In my area homeowners on the outskirts of the city are ditching roofing tiles and going to metal roofing. It would be smart to cut all brush and trees near your house. Perhaps cities and towns should have a mile wide buffer zone of parkland on the outskirts. It means cutting 90% of the trees. We really shouldn’t be putting out wildfires as they are nature’s way of renewing the forest.
Can you get out? If you can it's safe to do so, take your dog and go. I listen to animals when they go strange. They feel/sense/smell things we don't. I was born and raised in So. California. In 1986 we lived in a house in Whittier. I had adopted a kitten, and she was a strangely reactive little girl. In 1987 a few days before the Whittier quake on Oct 1st, she started going from one end of my West facing bedroom wall to the other. Standing on hind legs with her front paws on the wall, she walked back and forth meowing. She wouldn't stop. We would pick her up and take her to whatever room we were in. As soon as we set her down she'd dart back in there and go back to "wall walking" and crying. The night before the quake when husband and I went to bed we couldn't get her to stop! Finally, she got on the edge of the bed and sat there watching the wall all night. The first jolt threw my husband off the bed, my kitty scrambled to get out, and it's a good thing she did. The wall collapsed, and a ceiling beam came with it. Lucky for me that beam came down too. When the wall fell in, that beam saved me from being crushed by all of that debris. I was trapped but had plenty of air and it didn't take long for them to get me out, thanks to that small space the beam created. Our house was a rental, and the owner was unsure about how long it would take to get it repaired so he let us out of our lease. We moved to a house out of Whittier. Kitty didn't do wall walking anymore. In June of 1991, sometime around the 24th, there goes our cat again, on the dining room wall on the east side of the house. We decided that anything that would fall on that stretch of wall needed to come down. We had heavy pictures, a big clock and other little things along that stretch of wall. My hubby and I got home from our jobs that afternoon on 6/28/91 at the same time. When we got inside there was kitty anxiously walking the wall. Then my husband ran up and grabbed me, feeling it before I felt it, but not before kitty jumped from my arms and ran to our bedroom. That house was fine, but there was a lot of facade damage to the east facing walls of the house. Visible cracks and large gaps of cracks in the driveway and sidewalks along the east side of the yard. We had enough money to put a down payment on a house by then, and when the owner said he would cancel our lease we went looking for our own home. We settled on Northridge 🙄 It was a whole month before that quake in 1994 that kitty started wall walking again. We just looked at each other and said, well everything has to come down in case this one is like the other two. We were fast asleep the morning of that quake, kitty woke us up with her yowling first, and then the entire house JUMPED AND JERKED, knocking us off the bed. We had a daughter in '92, so we both were trying to get to her room down the hall. We had to crawl because we couldn't stand up during that quake. It was starting to slow as we reached her room, so we stood up but her door wouldn't open. Hubby threw his weight against it and was able to wrench it onward. The problem was her dresser and crib bounced, and shimmied, across the room, the dresser landing in front of the door and her crib next to it. She was still sleeping! 😂 There's wasn't damage our house except cracks that ran across the back yard catty corner from one side to the other. Our driveway was seriously cracked and raised on one side by several inches. The foundation was fine, and the house didn't have any external or interior damage except for a ceiling fan pulling away from us base, and dishes getting thrown from the cupboards. That was a newer home, so we got lucky. My husband said to me that night we were moving to Las Vegas. My mom had moved there eight years prior, and my brother and sister in law 13 years prior. We never looked back. Kitty stopped wall walking, but she did take up screaming just before a thunder storm. Vegas used to have some pretty loud thunderstorms, but at least they wouldn't bring the house down. We just took to comforting kitty when she'd howl at what was coming by way of storm. Kitty died in 1996. Listen to your dog. He knows stuff humans can't sense. I wish you God's protection and safety. 🙏 I've got nothing but thoughts prayers to offer*. But I so wish I did. *For all of you who will say oh how nice, more thoughts and prayers, that's helpful 🙄. Yeah, for some it's a good thing to know others are at least thinking of them. So go blow your horn elsewhere.
@BabyMonkeyDefender thank you for sharing your story. I was actually down in so cal in 1994. My son was the ring bearer for my brother's wedding. We had actually arrived the evening before. So, just hours before the quake. My then husband and I were so exhausted, we didn't feel a thing, but our 2 boys did, and they tried waking us up. We didn't know anything until morning. It took us 26 hours to get back to Tracy, CA., 5 days later. It was really awful. I wish I could leave. I want to go back to Arizona. I am broke right now, and have no vegicle to drive. I am at the lowest point of my life right now. I'm in a bad situation and am trying to get out. Earthquake or no earthquake, I need out.
